I don't know if she' adding the band or just slowing down the songs but hte way she performed Everything Breaks and Here When Gone in late 1997 is so slow and boring, it ruins the songs. - -- Mark ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Jul 1998 00:16:19 -0700 (PDT) From: 90 blackwell Subject: HELP!!!!! John Kruk played first base for the Philadelphia Phillies back in 1993 when they went to the world series. He was sort of the spokesman of a team that had no superstars, but went out and played hard everyday because they loved the game. He was somewhat overweight, mainly from too much partying and had chronic arthritis in his knees which many people thought would cause him to retire. These both made it quite humorous to watch him run, or more accurately, waddle around the field. He became an inspiration to many people when shortly after the world series he was diagnosed with testicular cancer which caused him to leave baseball and have a testicle removed. Always jovial, he would joke about his situation. He vowed to beat the cancer and return to the game. Against the odds, he did. He has since retired for good. Hi everyone, I'm just writting to suggest that maybe you guys who know more abou EDA should make up an e-mail that you can send to all new EDA's cause I've been reading a whole lot of mails from new EDA's including myself and I'm sure all of you are tired of responding to each one individually. So you could make an e-mail with all the common questions we would ask...like 1) What's angel food? 2) What exactly do you do with EDA? 3) Can you have an angel name without permission...like just make one up for yourself? 4) How can I get Jewel stuff? Just different things like that and then put all the links you guys have of everyone's home page and Jewel pages and the Angel Food page and stuff. Then you could also tell in detail who everyone is....cause I read the Bearsville things that you guys sent and I have no idea who any of the people are and if they have something special to do with they EDA's like if they're like the owner or what. Anyways it's just an idea that one of you veteran EDA's could do so that when new EDA's come along you can just send it to them. I would do it but I'm still pretty clueless myself :o) Ok well thanks guys. For the wedding scene that kicks off the Civil War drama, Roger Landes (mandolin), John Whelan (accordion), Van McCloud (guitar) and Kelly Werts (fiddle) appear on camera as members of a band entertaining guests. The music was pre-recorded by Landes, Whelan, Werts and Jeff Dover (on percussion). Singer Connie Dover reports she was approached in early June by the film's music supervisor, Alex Steyermark (a veteran of Ang Lee's "The Ice Storm" and numerous Spike Lee films), and asked to recommend musicians and tunes for the party scene. A few weeks earlier Dover and her Celtic colleagues had entertained cast and crew on the film's Pattonsburg, Mo., set with a lunchtime concert, turning many of the moviemakers into fans. Though she's being credited as a "music consultant," Dover didn't get to perform on celluloid. "No ladies would have performed with a band back then," she said. "A genteel family would have contracted with (the) best musicians in the area, but they all would have been men. Ang Lee wanted authenticity." The musicians perform a reel called "Uncle Joe's," which Dover said was based on a Scottish tune called "Miss McCloud" that found its way into Missouri's folk music repertoire. "Not only is the tune authentic, but the players had authentic instruments," she said. "John played an accordion manufactured in 1860, and although Roger's mandolin was built in 1870, it was identical to the model used during the war." Just thought I'd share my story about how I became a Jewel fan. I was visiting my brother in Pennsylvania (I live in NY) back in 1996, & I happened to turn on VH1. As I'm watching, this video comes on, featuring the Alaskan beauty we all know & love. Of course, I didn't know who she was at the time. She was singing WWSYS. From then on I was hooked. I told myself I would get POY, & just yesterday I was finally able to afford it. I listened to it this morning, & of course, it's an awesome CD. One thing puzzles me though. FG & YWMFM were different versions than what I've heard on the radio. Does anyone know where I could find those versions? Any info would be appreciated. Well, that's my story. Bye for now. Since Rolling Stone Magazine published a blurb about this book, I've recieved several inquiries about it, all from people who can't find it anywhere. The reason you can't find it is because contrary to what Rolling Stone says, the book has a publishing date of September 98. It has not yet been released, as far as I know. For those who'd like to pre-order this from your local bookstore, it's being published by Delta Publishing & the ISBN # is 0385324073. Hope thats helpful. Let me know which tapes you want. 3. I will then send you my mailing address. ***You will have to send to me blank tapes and an SASE.
