As a branch of the Angelfood bank, I know that I try to get the tapes out within a week of receiving the mail, but sometimes a branch will get a large sum of tapes in a few day period, and that can slow things down, also if something happens in that branch's life to keep them from concentrating on the tapes, it could be delayed. First with, Jewel's heavy makeup . . . it gives her the image of her poem. .I Look At Young Girls Now. i understand the meaning of what she is saying in the poem. . but she is practically like those young girls she describes now. The makeup is too extreme. . the clothes. .well . .to. . " i am trying to impress someone" also. i felt that. .they did not go into enough depth. And you cannot say oprah was using jewel to push her own beliefs. Jewel is a strong enough person, she could have re- stated herself. .or thought about the words she used. Also . .Oprah said Jewel never has used drugs. .now there is some controversy about that. . with the nickelodeon concert thing. . but anyhow. I love Jewel for her music, and for her poetry. .but her interviews seem to be lacking. And she seems so depressed. .and guilt-ridden. And as if she tells people on TV what they want to hear. . . that is just my opinion though ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 19:22:26 -0500 From: lindes15@Juno.com (LiNdSeY M. I just couldn't resist responding to the latest post made by Sean Hooks, it was great stuff & extremely thought provoking as usual. Well here goes: >Although the Oprah interview wasn't quite as >bad as I expected, some of the context was quite >disconcerting I would have to agree with this, I even went as far as only listening to the interview instead of watching it, I found 95% of the content to be the same old rehashed topics. {ex. "you lived in a van, huh'??} >using Jewel to support Oprah's own highly orthodox religious beliefs This is the #1 reason I only listened to the interview, I got really sick of watching jewel nod. IMO conversations are more interesting when things are discussed, instead of blindly accepted as fact. >Jewel's relationship with Nedra This was the only redeeming part of the interview, {Which I did watch} I found it extremely humorous to me Nedra looked like a "deer caught in the headlights" with that camera on her >Jewel's new obsession with heavy make-up This seems a little extreme to me, you can't judge something like this just on the extremely small number of television appearances she does make. Let's not forget that once you make it to the "top" there is alot of pressure for you to stay there, and looking you best can't hurt. >Where is the angry, embittered, selfish(in >a good way) Jewel of RaceCar >Driver, God's Gift to Women, Deep Water, Daddy, Carnivore, and Nicotine >Love?? I agree with this also, I must admit the first song of jewel's I heard was 'Absence of Fear,' featured on mtv's 120 minutes. This song and other's like it, {see above} mean more to me personally then any of commerical recordings. That's not to say the commerical recordings are bad, they are just different. >After all, her new album could be a masterpiece Jewel has stated in the past that she is "nervous" about making a new record, IMO nerves & honesty breed good records. {Anybody remember fleetwood mac's "Rumors"} >her acting debut Well she certainly has enough talent surrounding her on the film, but let's keep in mind that's it just that, a DEBUT so let's not set on sights to high. Anyway that's it, if anybody would like to discuss this feel free, discussion is good...;) Cheers...Mike Schlosser ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 19:26:17 EDT From: B8J9H0@aol.com Subject: Jewel Snobbish? I have been part of the EDA's for about four months now. I try to stay on top of all the news as best as I can but sometimes I might miss something. Here lately I have noticed quite of few emails concerning Jewel's personality. Well that is just great. Why is it that every celebrity has to have their personality analyzed and then have critical remarks made about them. Did anyone watch Jewel on Oprah? She once again reminded me of why I like her so much. She has the abitlity that I long for in expressing myself through words that fit just perfectly. Not to mention she was such a snob on national tv. I am convinced that there are vast, unseen, evil forces at work which are preventing me from getting any Jewel stuff on video..... umm, wait a minute.... actually it's just my brother. First he taped over the end of the "Intimate & Interactive" special, then when it was repeated, he didn't re-tape it for me.... and now..... he wouldn't even tape Oprah while I was at work so I could see it. He claims he "forgot" but I don't think that's a good enough excuse. Anyways, my point is.... does anyone know if the Oprah show will be repeated any time soon? Or does anyone have a tape of the show they'd be kind enough to send me? I raced home from work as fast as possible, but by the time I got there, Jewel's half of the show was over. Needless to say, I was more than a bit annoyed!!! So if anyone can help me out, I'd really appreciate it! In the meantime, how was the show? What songs did Jewel sing? What did they talk about? To Sean and the other EDAs, This is in response to Sean's post a little earlier today. I am not sure, but I do not remember any atheistic remarks made by Jewel. I find a very hard time believing that Jewel does not believe in God. For one thing most of her songs either conatin God, or Angels for example Angel Needs A Ride, Angel Standing By, Amen, and so on. Jewel would not of said that God made her dreams come true if she did not feel that way. Also why should we care if Jewel wears more make up or not? I know that Jewel is not certainly only beautiful for her body. Her beauty comes from inside and any people who respect her as much as we all do, knows that. I admit that I bought her CD because she looked so beautiful on Who Will Save Your Soul. However after listening to it and reading more about Jewel I hardly ever find myself in love with her body. She is the person (besides Jesus) I look up to the most. The amount of respect I feel towards her cannot be measured. Talk to you all later, Dan WWJD (What would Jesus Do?) How are ya all? I'm doing just great. I've been on the list for about 7 months now, but I haven't posted in a while-sorry about that! About the Oprah show, personally, I think that some (not all) people are taking the make-up thing a little too over-board. Yeah, it does seem weird seeing her with all that make-up on. But, things change. Wouldn't it get boring seeing the same thing over and over again? Life needs variety and people changing their looks is part of variety. I really think she looked good! She sang WWSYS very well, but I'm a little surprised that she sung that and not Foolish Games because it is a later hit single. But that is perfectly ok because all her songs are really good! But over-all, she looked great (in my opinion) and sung great as usual. Just my 2 cents Take care and keep listening to Jewel!
