UPDATE!! Hi folks, I have no firm facts as to what has happened or what is going on, but when I got back from the Bearsville '98 weekend on Sunday night, I had more than a few emails asking me what had happened to the "winners/runnersup" pages of the HarperCollins/TVGen/Jewel poetry contest that were on the TV Gen site last Thursday, when I had posted that they had the winners on the TV Gen Jewel page. The pages that had announced the winner and 10 runnersup (including EDA Rachel Katherine Musser) had disappeared, as if they never existed. Then, this morning THIS was on that page: Note: Due to circumstances beyond TVGEN's control, the announcement of winners in the Jewel Poetry Contest has been delayed. "Hmmmm, they had them up there Thursday" I thought. D*mn if I wasn't puzzled. :-) I just got back from work, re-checked the page and low and behold the Grand Prize Winner, and ten runners up were back up, although there were two major differences. The Grand Prize Winner that WAS up there last Thursday, and at least one other poem from last Thursday are gone! Both that are now gone were over the previously announced limit of "75 words or less". I recall a list upheaval of protest when these long poems were discovered and that some list members said they were gonna write and complain, referring that they too had longer poems they'd have entered had they known the rule would have been ignored. Also, the other main difference from last Thursdays' winner and runnersup pages is that the names and email addresses of all the winners/runnersup are now gone, with the exception of our own EDA runnerup Rachel ( !!! ), however only her name is still up there, they took down her email address too. Last Thursday I had checked all the other winners/runnersup against the subscription rosters of the list, and only Rachel's address matched up then. Since the email addresses of the two "new" winners/runnersup are not posted on the page, I can't tell if either of the two new poems were written by EDAs. Anyway, what I guess this all means is that the sponsors of the contest must have realized their mistake of having 2 winners with long poems (over the limit specified in the rules), and acted accordingly, as all eleven poems up there now have less than 75 words. The new web pages with the winners and runnersup can be found at http://www.tvgen.com/jewel/winner.htm and http://www.tvgen.com/jewel/runnersup1.htm and http://www.tvgen.com/jewel/runnersup2.htm Again, against the normal list policy of posting a poem, lyric or story not written by Jewel herself, I have decided to share Rachel's poem with you all, afterall it was judged by Jewel herself as one of the best submitted! :-) Congratulations to Rachel Katherine Musser of NY MUSSERR@newton.hartwick.edu Here's Rachel's winning poem: - - The Whispering Voice - Streams to the river river to the sea Lantern in her hand she follows after me In the chilling moonlight she looks at the stars that weave a web of colors so bright... Streams to the river river to the sea She follows the whispering voice that leads her towards me *********** Again, congratulations to Rachel (and all the winners!) My name's Kate and I live in Wichita, KS. My fav bands/artists are Jewel, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Fleetwood Mac, Radiohead, Sarah Mc Lachlan, Veruca Salt, and Catherine(has anyone on this list heard of Catherine?). I first heard Jewel when "WWSYS" first came out and was getting a lot of airplay. By the time "YWMFM" was getting played, my whole family was addicted and so we all got "Pieces of You" and that's how I became a big Jewel fan. Someone I know says I look like Jewel. I hope I do, but I don't see it. My favorite songs are "WWSYS", "YWMFM", "Foolish Games", "Don't", "Pieces of You", and "The Morning Song". That's pretty much it about me. Some new info is here. Today-OPRAH- I'm sure you know about this! This Saturday night,July 25th- Midnight --VH1 "Hard Rock Live" According to the VH1 website, this is an all new program. I have my doubts on that, unless its a re-edited version of the previous taping, which no-one in the J-camp has heard about. Back on May 20th, while Jewel was in NYC for the "book blitz" she did do a new taping at the VH1 studios that has not yet aired. This may or may not be related to that. However that too, was strictly "ANWA" related. We are trying to find out more, but may not get accurate info in time. My advice is to set the VCR or tune in to be sure. Its Jewel SOMETHING, so it won't hurt you either way ;-) Possibly one of these next Sundays-CBS Sunday Morning at 9:00am EST Jewel did an interview segment for this which has not aired yet. Not sure when but it'll be one of the next few Sundays. Beginning next Monday, July 27th at Midnight & running 10 nights in a row.--Jewel Poetry readings at MTV Studios. You may recall that earlier during the day of the Virgin Megastore poetry reading, May 19th, Jewel taped 10 poetry segments at MTV Studios. These are those finally being broadcast. Starts next Monday night. If any new info comes in, I'll get it to ya, asap. :-) Did anyone other than Pete make it back from the Bearsville Reunion?? ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 10:57:24 -0700 (PDT) From: Livia Giovetti Subject: Jewel bio Hi, I'm in this filmaking class fer the summer, and my team likes Jewel, so we're doing a little bio and stuff on her, but one of the guidlines to her biography is " why people like/dislike her (Note: you can get this off the internet, the TV, the radio...the sky's the limit" that's where you come in.
