Sarah did a great job of keeping her composure and Jewel(from what Ive heard) was her normal self. I do agree that the editing made the EDA's seem like freaks, but that was due to the editing I think?? Sarah will have to let us know there. All in all I found it to be rather interesting. With the other group, I also found the twins meeting Tia and Tamara to be cool as well. That brought a totally different look to the show as well. But from what I have seen of the episodes, both the twins and Sarah kept great composure and normalcy to the show. Considering all the cameras that kept on showing in the shots, it was a wonder. I know that if I had been in that situation, I woulda been red from tip of ears to bottom of neck(to of course match the color of my hair). But all in all I must say that Sarah did a great job. Join with me in giving her a hearty round of applause. Clap, Clap, Clap, Clap(from a multitude)!! Judd" Subject: Rare Angels and Radio Angels Jewel tapes available again Hey, First let me briefly introduce myself. I'm James Judd, administrator and webmaster of the AngelFood Bank (AFB) project. The AFB is a bunch of EDA volunteers who are willing to make tapes for anyone on the Jewel lists. The AFB was created to address the growing shortage of quality angelfood, and the logistical challenges of treeing new offerings for EDA's to so many people. AFB volunteers tape on a continuing basis, so anytime someone joins a Jewel list they can get an ever increasing number of Jewel tapes through us. Dan Stark has been kind enough to provide masters of Rare Angels and Radio Angels to me, which I've distributed to the volunteers. Now you have the opportunity to get these two tapes on the web in addition to MrBB's Future Folklore volume 3 if you don't have it already. The quality of the tapes is better than the ones I got back in early '96, so if your copy is worn out you should consider getting this fresh low-generation copy. So if you're interested in getting one or all three tapes, all you need to do is visit our web site at: http://www.angelfoodbank.org If you have any questions, you can mail info@angelfoodbank.org, or if you run into problems you can mail me at webmaster@angelfoodbank.org. I just put the site on a new server, so it will perform well for you. We'll be offering these three tapes as well as more in the future on a continuing basis, so don't panic if you don't have web access this week. We plan to be here for a long time :-) Please use the web for signup- if you don't have web access just wait until you can borrow it- you'll only need it once as after the initial signup the rest can be conducted by email. How do I get my tapes? 1) Go to the web site, have a look at the tape descriptions and tracklists. 2) Decide which you want and sign up for them on the site. 3) You'll be given the name of you volunteer immediately on the site. 4) You'll get an automated email from them shortly afterwards. 5) You'll send off blank tapes to your volunteer with return postage, and they'll make tapes for you (detailed instructions are in the automated email) 6) They'll mail your tapes back to you, and you'll be in for a huge treat if you haven't heard these classics before :-) If there's anything missing from the site that would help you sign up easier, just drop me an email and we'll take it into consideration for the next version of the site. I think it explains itself well. Please, no payment for tapes as this could be misunderstood as selling for profit, and we don't do that. All the volunteers have been touched by other eda's making angelfood for us for free, and we want to pass that feeling and the music on to you. Just follow the instructions you'll get after signing up and we'll all be happy... you with your tapes and us with the satisfaction of spreading the music :-) Enjoy the tapes, The AngelFood Bank ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 14:52:54 EDT From: Dumbass751@aol.com Subject: Re: My take on the fanatic show In a message dated 98-07-21 14:25:37 EDT, dkaracos@utmb.edu writes: << And why did Jewel call us EDA's freaks? Did you catch that Alan and Mike? She seemed weirded out by us all. >> If you see the show again, you'll notice that Jewel wasn't refering to the EDA's when talking about her fans. She was talking about fans in general, and how she THOUGHT they would act, and she didn't like it. When Jewel answered my question at the AOL chat about EDA's, she said how much she likes how the EDA's aren't just "worshipping her". Here's a quote from Jewel: "I was really worried when I got into the business that my ability to help people would be impaired by the isolating nature [of fame], and I would become useless and immobilized by fame. So I've asked from the beginning that people not idolize but be inspired, so I would not be cast in a certain role that I couldn't live up to. And I couldn't ask for better fans. [EDA's] are doing good for their community and not just mindlessly worshiping." ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Jul 1998 15:00:38 -0500 From: kristin Subject: YWMFM picking Hello, I was just wondering if any guitar playing angels could help me out. I've been playing guitar for about 6 months now and I really suck cuz I never practice. Until now I've just been doing all the stuff my teacher tells me to and can barely play any rock songs. Well, seeing as how I love jewel so much and have plenty of spare time in the summer, I was wondering if anyone might be able to explain the picking for YWMFM or WWSYS in as easy a way as possible. The questions you asked would have been the exact questions I would have asked, so the whole interview was so great! And mentioning the EDA's was sooo cool! That whole show just brightened my spirits. I think you were a great choice for being THE Jewel FANatic. ~Jenny Sugar High Angel p.s. Ahem, did anybody catch the Tia and Tamera interview? Did you catch that >Alan and Mike? She seemed weirded out by us all. I didn't get that part. Hi Derrick (& all others BEFORE confusion sets in ;-) I think you misunderstood what Jewel said, Derrick. She didn't call The EDAs "freaks". Read on & it should clear it up for ya. :-) The exact words were: Sarah's Question: Do you consider the EDAs more than just a fan club? Jewel's Answer: I was really freaked out about the whole "fan thing". I remember talking to my mom about it.....my moms my manager.... I'm like--"I don't know about this...."--'cause I was never like that. But I get inspired by people, so I decided I'm going to try to inspire people & NOT have them idolize me. That's what she actually said. MTV cut out part of her answer but she was refering to a few years ago, not now. Back then, she was freaked out by all the attention. She then realized how inspiring the EDAs were & wanted to encourage that while noting that it hasn't become idol worship with The EDAs. Sounds like a compliment to me. :-) Alan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Jul 1998 19:46:07 -0400 From: glitter35@juno.com (Kimberly D Chevett) Subject: [none] Hi everyone! I was extremely shocked when I heard that they taped the Jewel episode of FANatic in Montana, because I was just recently there visiting some friends. I actually called for my chance to meet Jewel from Montana. Rachel (the woman in charge of phone interviews for the show) had asked me how long I'd be there for...hmmm. Well anyways, I was at first jealous because of the fact that it was in Montana and I was already there, and she was riding that horse and all (I ride too, and I would have asked Jewel to go riding with me:). But when it aired Monday night and I saw Sarah, I wasn't jealous anymore because I was glad they had chosen her. Sarah, awesome job!!!
