I have finally had the opportunity to view Wizard of Oz in Concert: Dreams Come True (thanks to the kindness and benevolence of Mr. Paul Schreiber). A question comes to mind: why the hell is Jewel talking like Mae West? At first I thought it was my imagination, but my wife noticed it too. I thought it may be some affectation so she sounded like she was from Kansas, but I don't know anyone from Kansas who talks like this. I've heard Jewel slip into a pseudo-sexy purr/growl voice similar to Ms. West occasionally while speaking (and singing), but she kept this up throughout much of the performance. Did anyone else notice this, or have any idea why she did this? Fictionally Yours, Wizard The Angelheaded Hipster "Bob Dole won't save your soul." J. Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Jul 1998 00:08:37 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: MrBB-Our EDA (MTV FANatic) celebrity reveals herself :-) Hi all, This is one post that will interest almost everybody here. :-) I haven't said a word about who won the opportunity to interview & hang out with Jewel on MTV FANatic because I felt it only right to respect the winners privacy. I knew an EDA won, but hadn't had the pleasure of knowing her until tonight, although she's been an EDA for quite some time. I spoke to her for awhile tonight & I can tell you that they made a perfect choice! I also know Jewel was very happy with the show & really enjoyed meeting her. She has decided that she'd enjoy sharing her experience with all of you, but prefers not to be bombarded by replys for now. So, I'm forwarding her message to all of you. I hope it formats OK on your system. Usually Mike fixes up my long post formatting & I'm flying solo here. Don't forget to watch our new EDA celebrity Monday night at 11:00PM on MTV FANatic. And without further delay, I turn you over to our guest of honor. Enjoy, MrBB Hi everyone! I'm sorry I have not written anything sooner but I guess I am still in the heaven over the FANatic show. First of all let me say I wish all the EDA's could have gone - it was absolutely amazing and I will never forget it as long as I live. Part of me feels guilty that I was the one picked when I know that there are so many of you guys who are just as deserving. Don't get me wrong I am totally ecstatic that I was picked but I just wish more of you could have had this experience too. Let me tell you a little about what happened. First of all this came as a total shock to me - my door to my office flew open Monday morning and in came my best friend Meg and cameras and lights and Meg was screaming that we were going to see Jewel. I almost fainted (as you will probably see on the video - I then proceeded to go completely nuts!!!!). They got me into a limo and we were on our way to the airport. They filmed us everywhere we went - it was pretty strange at first always having a camera in your face, but I was too excited to notice it that much. Anyway the airport was a huge fiasco because first out tickets were messed up and then we missed our connecting flight. I wasn't complaining though - I mean come on who would? I was still going to meet Jewel so there was no complaining from me! Anyway they ended up chartering a jet to get us there (I was impressed!). We flew out to Montana which was the perfect place to be interviewing Jewel. It was soooo gorgeous with all the beautiful scenery - it took my breath away. Well finally the next day after 1 hour of sleep, no food (because I was so nervous), and much anticipation I finally got to meet and interview Jewel. First of all let me say thank you to all of the EDA's who submitted questions to the list for Jewel to answer over the Internet. I didn't steal your questions, but I did ask some questions that I came up with from all of the questions I have read. I figured that since you guys all couldn't be there the least I could do was to get the answers to the questions that you guys have been wondering instead of the same old questions that we have practically memorized! When I met her I was immediatly put at ease. She is absolutely one of the sweetest people I have ever met - really down to earth. She rode her horse up to meet me. We sat down outside of this cabin on the side of a mountain with more mountains in the background (I'm not that good at giving a mental picture - Sorry). She gave me a hug and it was so cool because the interview really turned into more of a conversation then a strict question and answer session. She even asked me questions about my life which I thought was pretty cool. I was nervous that she would think I was just some obsessed fan, but after she got to know me a little the interview turned into a conversation between friends type of thing. She answered all my questions and as long as MTV doesn't cut out the good questions I think you will like the answers she gives (since most of the questions were inspired by the EDAs). All in all I think I only spent an hour with her but I learned a lot and this experience really inspired me even more. We talked about the EDAs a little and she had lots of good things to say about us. I hope MTV keeps that part in because she talked about Jewelstock and how everyone has banded together to raise money for different charities, etc. It seemed that she really loves the support we give her, but most of all she loves the fact that we take her inspirations and give back to the people around us. I made a Jewel book that I keep the lyrics to a lot of her songs in and I showed it to her. She was so funny because as she started looking through it she would say things like "I forgot that song exsited!" or "Oh yeah" and begin to mumble the lyrics. It was really cute. I don't want to ruin Monday night for you guys and since I am not sure what they will put in the video and what they will cut I think I will watch the show and if they leave out an interesting questions or funny stories that she told I will write another e-mail and fill all of you in. I am still in so much shock about the whole thing. It was the chance of a life time and I will always remember all that happened. Even just an hour with her gave me this great emotional high that I still haven't come down from - I just want to get out there and make a difference. Well I hope this post answered some of the questions you guys have been having. Like I said earlier I'm sorry I didn't get this out sooner and I hope you guys all watch the show. Oh and please be nice - I was so excited that I come across a little ditzy on tape. I just couldn't stop smiling and I was so nervous, so please keep that in mind. I am not always that nuts, but when it comes to meeting Jewel it is hard to keep from being so happy. I love you all! {{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}}}}} Sarah (Angel in heaven) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 18 Jul 1998 11:20:24 EDT From: DzdNcnfd75@aol.com Subject: EDA Picks? (Trade?) Kurt was talking about days since artists have put out a cd and he got to Jewel. He said the days then he said, "She just finished her poetry book, if you could call it poetry." He also had a very negative towards her and Paula Abdul saying that Paula Really was never a good artist to begin with. I don't know about you but that pisses me off a bit! First of all, Clueless was recently broadcast on TV here, and while reading the credits (I always do that) I noticed it said "All By Myself" is performed by Jewel. Is that true? If so, why have I never heard of that? I checked it out on CDNow and it's not on the soundtrack. Anyway, I was wondering what's the deal with that. Now to the pointless ramblings. I'm going to be in the US (I live in Israel, to all you who don't know, and for some reason care) in about a week, for three weeks. The thing is, I've decided to cut my trip a bit shorter, and arrive later than I had originally planned (a week from today, aka July 26th). I'm not sure how far I want to move up my arrival date. This is where you people come in. What EDA related events are going to take place in the NYC, central NJ area in the late July - mid August time period? Well, that's it for me, Sharon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jul 1998 10:50:48 EDT From: SxyNikeGrl@aol.com Subject: NJC: Hey EDA's Hey everyone!! Find out form the poet herself in a live auditorium this month on our site on AOL (keyword: Teen People) We both checked out the site and it says come back to see whos coming, or whatever. Does Mr.BB know anything about this? Ok, and was Jewel on CBS Sunday Morning on the 19th? And heres the results to the poll I did. Do you think it will be a male or female who gets picked for Fanatic? Although me know the answer (by the way, congradulations Sarah!) heres what you people thought.
