I recieved a letter from someone responding to my email about wanting posters. It was sent to my other address, JLedray@aol.com, and I accidentally deleted it, so I don't have that person's address!!! They said that they could somehow get me posters and send them to me. I think that would be so cool!! So, if you were the one who emailed me, could you please do it again, because I lost your letter with your address on it!! Thanks so much!!! *Jennifer* ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 00:28:52 EDT From: Harrisbros@aol.com Subject: The EveryDay Angels are already in flight! *** Alan (good ol' Mr. BB) offered to clear up some confusion on this list: >Many people are generously offering to get involved in >Jewel & Lenedra's foundation & are asking "What to do?". >I think there's some misinformation circulating & this >may help those wondering about it. First of all, its called >Common Ground, not "Higher Ground" (although I like that >Stevie Wonder tune!). This is a common mistake in the press. > At present, Common Ground has no interest in "collecting >donations" & is more for Jewel to donate money to projects >that she supports, but primarily to raise awareness of these >projects & causes, a major one being "Community Volunteerism". > So if you are serious about getting involved, get involved >in your own community. Theres even a group that splintered >off this list called EDAFoundation thats dedicated to helping >you do this alone or in groups with other EDAs. Yes, yes, yes... :-) An EDA-related effort to implement the "everyday angel" message of Jewel does exist, and it is (not surprisingly) called The EveryDay Angels Foundation. This was begun and is currently championed by folks who have at one time or another been on the Jewel list. It is a legally incorporated 501(c)3 non-profit group that exists for the very purpose of promoting volunteerism and truly becoming each other's everyday angels. We incorporated in California last Thanksgiving, and celebrated the event with a special concert and "Pajama Jam" sleepover party at Java Joe's in Ocean Beach. Guest performers included the wonderful Elizabeth Hummel, Tara McLean, Lisa Sanders, Mary Dolan, Greg Page and a surprise visit by an up-and-coming artist named Jewel. The performance was recorded beautifully by Mr. BB and released as "Future Folklore, Volume 3". More importantly, we spent Thanksgiving Day at an area battered women's shelter, and collected clothing for a poor Jamaician village. Many EDAs gathered from across the country to attend these events and share the hospitality and generosity of organizers/hosts Tom and Nancy Morales out in California. Since then, twenty of us gathered to work at the New Jersey FoodBank with Second Harvest, one of the countries most active (and successful) organizations devoted to fighting hunger. Tammy and Rob Campbell once again opened their hearts -- and home -- to the participating EDAs for a long weekend. One of the most exciting things about these events is meeting friends that EDAs bring along... they may not be Jewel fans, but they are certainly EVERYDAY ANGELS at heart! As Alan said, Jewel is not looking for fan donations to her "Common Ground" organization, nor is The EveryDay Angels Foundation looking to be a fund-raiser. We are looking to get y'all involved in your communities, and to make caring for and sharing your time with others in need an intergral part of your lives. In other words, let's make giving a damn about each other a HABIT! We are currently planning more volunteer work at foodbanks, with hopes to have the next event simutaneoulsy cover MULTIPLE states with as many EDAs and their friends as possible. Also coming up is a blood drive (similar to the Jewel list blood drive held last year) and a tentative event in September involving clean water and environmental awareness, an issue Jewel supported with her contribution of the song "Quiet Warrior" to the Music for our Mother Ocean (MOM) benefit CD. The EDAF is still in the early formation stages, but IT IS REAL AND TANGIBLE. Personally, I feel it's core purpose embodies the very essence of what being an "everyday angel" truly means. (Give us a little time, and we'll see about making some of those membership card-doohickies that seem so much in demand lately!) Email edafinfo@aol.com for more information, or visit our website at: WWW.EVERYDAYANGELS.ORG (or WWW.EDAF.ORG for simplicity) (The website will receive a major update by the weekend of the 25th, BTW...) Dennis Harris, in a more calm, sensitive moment... ;-) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Jul 1998 08:00:05 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: Jewel list now down until Sunday afternoon Hi everyone, As I previously announced on Thursday, from this moment (8am Friday ET USA time) until late Sunday afternoon, the Jewel@smoe and Jewel-digest@smoe.org lists will not be operating.
