Some of >you might know him , he was on the list a few years ago but he got off. >So, Let me know. Wow, what a loaded email to post to this list! I wouldn't be surprised if I knew exactly WHEN and WHY your brother left the Jewel list... ;-) You've stumbled across ANOTHER hidden "inside joke" -- well, not so hidden, just an old one. Jewel used to imitate (flat-out make fun of, actually) that "lilting tone" the lead singer of the Cranberries (Delores?) had, and it seemed to REALLY upset the performer, to the point of her publically complaining about it and, if my memory serves right, wanting an apology. Hey, I like Delores, but Jewel sure had her number -- and got her goat! Anyway, it brings back memories... If y'all southwestern EDAs want this to happen, contact Tessa (asset.moo@mail.utexas.edu) ASAP. Offer up any ideas you may have, then we'll roll 'em together and make an event of it. I fully expect to see some EDAs from the "other" coasts as well! ;-) After all, I've attended most of the east and west coast events, so it's payback time! The lack of a major EDA presence in Texas dumbfounds me... Maybe some of our Jewel-area San Diego music scene artist friends will be in the central Texas area, and we can set up a one-shot Living Room Tour Show. Austin's not a bad town to be seen performing in, you know... Duff, Alan, Larry -- is anyone from SD touring down there in mid- to late September? BTW, anyone in the Austin area willing to put up a band of traveling EDAs for a few days? (C'mon, take a chance.) Well, it's almost time for me to leave for school, and I decided it's time to get rid of some of the old stuff. Anyways, I came across a 30th anniversary issue of rolling stone. It's got a bunch of interesting articles including one with jewel. I'd rather not throw it out, so I thought i'd check here first and make sure nobody wants it. I've also got the walden book report and a couple others with fiona and such on the covers. Write me privately if ya want it, and it's yours. Buh bye. I say let's go all the way and have Victoria's Secret co-sponsor this effort! Imagine angel supermodel Tyra Banks, Jewel and, say, Mike Connell with their beaming smiles and "busts" decorating THE OFFICIAL EDA ID card! Oh, the surprise and envy on your friends' faces... ;-) Seriously -- I'm not serious. And I hope no one else is either. What I mean is, well, uh, I think it would be better to get out and meet other EDAs face to face than to sit home looking at your own face on an ID card that was made in someone else's kitchen. You can usually spot an EDA in a crowd anyway. They seem to be intently looking for other EDAs, with a gleam in their eyes and a smile on their face... Now, newsletters...that's a different story altogether. They at least give you something to read in the bathroom! I just wanted to know if anyone here is a fan or happen to have some kind of recordings from any of the artists i'll soon mention. The first one is Imani Coppola.. she was really good with her green green hair.. she was on the 2nd stage and well she just plain rocked, that's all I need to say.. I was wondering if anyone had any stuff from her.. Most of all though i wanna know about Rebekah.. I was dancing hardcore when she was on the 2nd stage, singing along and stuff and when i got her autograph and stuff i gave her a hug too :) she's really cute.. but anyway i was just wondering if anyone else had any recordings Also if anyone had recorded _any_ of this show I'd like to know too. ANd maybe you can write back and discuss the absurdity of paying $4.00 for a bottle of coke take care - -linda "mama doesn't like when i sin so well" - rebekah! :) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 13:08:34 -0400 From: kbondy@umich.edu Subject: Steve Poltz's Lucky Girl Well I, too, was at Riverfest this Saturday in Pontiac, MI. At first I was completely disappointed that Patty Griffin was a no-show. But later in the afternoon, I went to talk to Steve Poltz who was signing autographs. I asked him about the guitar chords for "Impala", and he brought out his guitar and showed me how to play. I was so excited that my hand was shaking as I tried to write down the chords. He gave me his autograph, and I asked him if he'd play the song for me in his set. Later in the afternoon, about three songs into his set, Steve started to re-tune his guitar to play "Impala". He told the audience how he had just taught me how to play it. And just when I thought that the day couldn't get any better, he invited me up on stage to sing the song with him!! First, he talke about high school dances and sang an a capella slow song, while we slow danced together (talk about a fast heart beat!!). And then I shared the microphone with Steve, and accompanied him on "Impala". That was probably the most exciting moment of my life. Steve Poltz is such a wonderful guy, and now I am probably one of his number one fans. Katie *By the way, I was disappointed to see that my tape recorder had not worked. Does anyone have a copy of Steve at Riverfest? I would do anything to get a copy of it!!! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 13:22:58 -0500 From: Robyn Wellman Subject: NJC: Hanson newsletter Hi guys!!!!!!! I was just writing to a real Angel who was nice enough to do some major Angelfood taping for me. I was babbling on about this fan club thing and thought of something that I thought might be worth sharing: First of all, I wasn't keen on this "fan club" idea at all, and don't really have a use for an ID card or stickers, though I did like that Lynrd Skynrd thing about getting priority seating at shows. However, I do like the idea of getting involved in community service as a group. Perhaps if the group was centered around community service, it could get some sort of sponsorship to cover organizational costs. The EDA name would certainly be put to good use, and the newsletter would feature accounts of the groups' various contributions across the globe. In addition, EDAs who lived in the same area could work together. It certainly seems like something that "the management" would approve of. :) Michelle (The Angel who's lost in the clouds for a while) ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1998 14:10:35 -0400 (EDT) From: Seth Fulmer Subject: NJC: Steve Poltz/Patty Scorobia concert 7/13 Hello Angels! :) I'm sure I'm not the only one who will write about this, but I thought I'd be one of the first :) I was at the LRT concert that Steve played at the Bay City Restaurant in Hanover, PA. Patty Scorobia opened up for him and if I must say so myself, she was excellent!! It was my first time seeing Steve play in person, but I've heard him play Silver Lining before with Jewel. I think my favorite songs have to be "The ABC's of Love/Take off your shirt" and "It's a crazy, crazy world"...although his other songs were quite good as well. I got him to sign my left shoe, and a postcard promoting the album, and the ticket to the concert too. He's such a cool guy! I have to thank Josh Baummer for getting the whole thing together. It was great! Also, I'd like to thank Tom Miles for letting me stay at his place of residence. :) I don't know how I would have gotten to see Steve and Patty without his help. I hope you all have an Excellent Day!! :) Seth D.
