In the meantime, I wanted to tell everyone about a very cool project that Duff & Eric (Crashboy) have been working on. It's a new website that is dedicated to helping EDAs know where all the various LRT artists are playing & tour dates in general for these artists. Point your browsers to: http://thespis.com/crashboy/EDArtists/EDArtists.htm According to the site itself, the goal of this site is: "Through the Everyday Angels (EDA) mailing list, we have introduced each other to a plethora of new artists. This page centers on those up and coming artists who have benefitted and are still benefitting from EDA support, those who have made in difference in EDA lives, or both." You'll find LRT info, touring info & link info for (in alphabetical order): Cindy Lee Berryhill, Heidi Boh, Jenny Bruce, Mary Dolan ,Randi Driscoll, Patty Griffin, Emm Gryner, Joy Eden Harrison, Elizabeth Hummel, Tara MacLean, Holly McNarland, Dayna Manning , Gregory Page , Steve Poltz, Lisa Sanders, & Sarah Slean, with more to be added as time goes on. The coolest part of this site, IMO, is that theres a map of North America divided up into regions. You can simply click on your region & it'll tell you all the interesting gigs coming up in your area! :-) Please take advantage of this resource. It'll definetely help connect you up to some great shows this summer. Also if you have additional info that should be included, contact Duff at TJtalken@aol.com & she'll get on it. And speaking of Duff, all EDAs within a reasonable distance to the Kanas City area, should attend Duff's LRT this Thursday evening, July 9th, featuring San Diego-ite Mary Dolan. You are guaranteeed a great time! Again, contact Duff at TJtalken@aol.com for directions & RSVP's. Visit this site & support these artists. There's a LOT more going on in EDA-land than Jewel! They thank everyone for the overwhelming response. Air date will be posted soon. Also just a reminder that Jewel's appearance on The Oprah Winfrey show will air on Wednesday, July 22nd. I believe it's a great idea if done correctly. This is what I think would be good; It should be mail, not Internet - to keep credibility for the fanclub + EDA The club can be one unified group but set up in states, countries, etc as smaller groups. BUT there would need to be presidents of each group that all get together to collect info. If this wasn't done there would be no point in having a club outside the USA because in the other countries we don't know much inside info. Therefore - if the presidents had Email they could work together. We can decide on a Logo fo the club and send it to all presidents who make badges, cards, stickers, etc, for a small fee. Newsletters can go out monthly/bi-monthly in each group. Each group also has parties periodicly. I'm in a fanclub similar to this idea in Australia and it really works well, we get together and have a great time in our groups but we still work together with the main club. It would not be an easy task to set up but if we really try, we could have one of the best fan clubs in the world. For more info on this >annual EDA event, go to: >http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup/bv/bv98.htm Greetings from the "adrenalin rush"! (I have been called far worse, you know.) I am de-lurking for a good reason... As part of the upcoming Bearsville '98 campout, I'd like to announce three SPECIAL EVENTS: First, "Return of the EDA Tape Grab Bag". To participate, make a 90 minute tape of your favorite music, and bring it to Bearsville. At our traditional Saturday night bonfire, participants toss 'em in a hat, grab a tape, and hopefully broaden their musical horizons... Also, if things work out, I'll serve up some of my famous Jewel "C'mon, I Wanna Give Ya S'Mores" (preferred by three outta four EDAs) at the bonfire. Second, the Harris Hospitality Hut will again be open, with plans to display the World's Smallest Drive-In Theatre, featuring unique animated shorts (no, NOT Mike Connell's) that encompass the tastes of well, Harris. (What amuses Harris? What doesn't?) Anyway, drop by and see why drive-ins are all but extinct in North America. (Didn't we make purple fuzzy bears extinct LAST year at Bearsville?) If art appreciation (music, culinary and film) isn't your bag, how's about old fashioned carnage -- err, competition? List historians can confirm many highly competitive events held since JewelStock... the 1996 Jewelympics at Hampton Beach (featuring the world's first exhibition of full contact horseshoes, won by Team Harris). The Paintball Wars of 1997 (won by Team Harris) at the EDA Great Looney Toons Adventure and Search for the Blue Llama Safari. Bocce Mania '97 (Team Harris, a DAMN CLOSE second, third and fourth). The '97 Bearsville Angels in the Outfield Wacked and Wacky Ball Game, won by Team Harris. Lifetime Achievement for most times thrown from tall heights, wild car chases and times set on fire at Living Room Tour shows, Harris. Twisted Twister Challenge '98, won by Harris. Anyone notice a trend here? ;-) So, here's your latest chance to derail the dynasty -- Angel Lazer Warz '98, aka, the BADWILL GAMES! (Hey, lighten up, it's only satire!) The rules are simple: teams of four EDAs enter the field, and compete against each other in a round-robin laser tag tournament. Teams pay a small entry fee to cover equipment and power cells (aka alkaline batteries). By the end of the weekend, one team receives the title, bragging rights, and gets to keep all their equipment (who the heck would be able to take it away from 'em, anyway?)... There will likely be a quick draw contest and other quirky mutations of the sport as well. Team Harris has already thrown their bent halos into the ring. Go ahead, make our day... ;-) Anyone going to Bearsville who is interested in playing, please email harrisbros@aol.com as soon as possible as we need a battery and laser sidearm count. WARNING: Disturbingly loud late night chicken noises will be made outside the tent flaps of any list veteran who fails to answer this challenge! On a down note, two weekend events have been cancelled. Tickets for the Llama Pack Tours of Woodstock are, unfortunately, now unavailable (Amy Neufeld-Harris bought them ALL and gave the llamas the weekend off). Better luck next year! The "Waffle Breakfast with Jewel" raffle has also been canceled, due to her not being anywhere near Bearsville that weekend. Hey, if she isn't doing the Goodwill Games, maybe Jewel could join our Badwill Games? Mr. BB? Hmmm? (Team Harris calls dibs on the cute blond chick with the crooked smile!) So, what's everyone been up to the last year or so while I have been Jewel list AWOL? Dennis Harris, not dead yet... just under REALLY deep cover. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Jul 1998 16:25:32 -0500 From: "Karacostas, Derrick W." Yes, a winner has definately been selected. Not only that, but the MTV Fanatic show was taped earlier today & is already a done deal. I still don't know the air date, but it'll likely be posted on the MTV website at the same time they tell us, so keep an eye out. I'll definately post as soon as I know, but please post yourself if you find out first. Also today, Jewel filmed a segment for CBS "Sunday Morning". This will likely air this Sunday morning, July 12, but may instead air the following Sunday, July 19th. It's sure good to see the re-emergence of Dennis (adrenelin-rush) Harris! I just thought that amidst all the talk about fan clubs and such, a contest might seem cool to have as yet another thing to think about =) Here it is..... I am the president and founder of a zine called **TWILIGHT**. I have posted about it before and all. Since I don't have too many subscribers yet (less than 200) , I came up with this idea to help me out and make some angels happy with cool prizes. All you have to do is...... 1. Write to me and tell me you want to subscribe to the zine. It is free and features cool articles as well as stuff on jewel. 2. tell me your name (first) and age 3.*******tell me your favorite jewel song and why or how she influences you ******* 4. write <> in the subject line The prizes..... 1st place- your choice of either an eda guitar pick OR a live picture of jewel 2nd place- which ever the 1st place doesn't pick for everyone who enters and subscribes- a whole page in the next issue of my zine for every eda to talk about themselves and jewel (like how she influences you//your fave song and why). GOOD LUCK! it will be judged by the best responce to question #3. in the event where there are so many great responces, i will randomly pick two people DEADLINE the deadline is july 12th (next monday) HAVE FUN =) - -tara, the ice angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 08 Jul 1998 03:14:17 +0200 From: Jesse Houwing Subject: Re: fan club > Guys, > I really think we should just decide wheather we want to start a club or > not. > I believe it's a great idea if done correctly. I don't know if there are people who want to volunteer for these jobs, but if they would, please let us know. I would sure like to help to set up the European group. If we are going through with this idea, I think we'll have to ask permission/help from Jewel's management. And we'll have to draw up a charter. I believe that all the co-ordinators should be able to speak/read/write English, but that the local fan clubs won't be language bound. I also think that if poems/articles from different countries are very good. That they'll have to be translated and printed by the other local groups, this would assure a good bond between them. We should try to keep to a small amount of local groups at the beginning so that we will be able to co-ordinate it without too much problems (we can always expand later). Well, I think that that's all for now. Greetings, Jesse Houwing The Always Busy Angel PS: I also think that these fan clubs should not be completely disconnected from the internet. I think that it would be wise to build a web site for the Fan club and web sites for the local fan clubs. - -- ICQ #12001754 Webmaster of Jewel - foolish games: - - http://members.xoom.com/jfg/ - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll tell you one thing about the universe: The universe is a pretty big place.
