I only have three tapes, but I'm willing to make tapes for the first few people who email me. If this sounds good to anyone, and you truly are one of the "needy" ones, email me and we can work out the details. :) I'd love to help. I was very blessed to see many of our beloved musicians in action. =) Elizabeth Hummel got rave reviews by the press for her performance at the Del Mar Lillith Fair. Sarah M loved the dulcimer! Unfortunately, Elizabeth was destined to play the first set at 3:30 when the gates open only 25 minutes before. This meant the crowd was sparse yet, as people were scrambling to get in and get situatuated. The up side of this was that she had the undivided attention of the networks and press. I was one of the ones who missed the performance, so I won't review what I heard from a distance, although it sounded fantastic. =) Tara MacLean serenaded a much bigger crowd with hubby Bill Bell. Previous to LF, we caught Tara for a short set at a LF promotion at Starbucks in Del Mar. Here, she sang to some dedicated fans and a street full of moving vehichles, all of which slowed to a crawl, mesmerized by this muse with a heart of gold. At Lillith, Tara could be seen in the crowd, talking and listening to her fans. Let me be the first to say that it sure looked like Sarah M took a real big shine to Tara, kinda took her under her wing. Tara got some big solo time during the Indigo Girl's and Sarah's sets, all of which she stepped up to with grace and talent. =) To cap the rest of LF quickly, Sarah and Natalie Merchant were genuine and heart-stopping, as usual. Erica Badu (sp?) was nice until she got up on a soap box and preached about something utterly unintelligible (at least to me, and the general crowd reaction I observed). Kay's choice was cute, and bounced around the venue, friendly and talkative. Ingigo Girls did there usual performance, spotted with musicians and singers from the other bands. Without a doubt, I felt the one who stole the entire show was Billie Meyers. (Catch this artist and her band at your earliest possible convenience!!) Full of energy, sex appeal, and running all over the equipment and stage, Billie captivated with a flawless voice, even signing autographs in the middle of lyrics. Her CD, which is great, does not do her justice. =) I also caught a number of performances at Java Joes and the Ould Sod. Last Thursday was the Summer Songwriters Showcase at Joes featuring Gregory Page, Lisa Sanders, Frank Lee Drennen, Randi Driscol, Carlos Olmeda, John Katchur, Jeff Berkley, and a few more. The last two guys are part of a new band called the Redwoods that shows amazing promise. Lisa let leak something about a tour, but then said she didn't want it to get around the internet yet =). Carlos charmed the crowd with stories and jokes (get this guy on an LRT, actually... get them all!!!!!) and swooned through thoughtful ballads which are destined for a ride on the radio. Gregory played a very clean, beautiful show a few nights later at Joes, with a band featuring Frank Drennen. And Carlos and Frank charmed once again at Open Mike Night at the Ould Sod. =) This was my first time hearing many of the above artists. I have got to stress how impressed I am with wealth of talent that resides in the city of San Diego. Each and every one of these artists has incredible potential. I am encouraged to see some of them collaborating in bands. If they can stick it out, two bands to look for in the future, without a doubt, are the Redwoods and.... well... whatever Gregory Page decides to call his band next. I am only sorry I did not get to see Loam, Frank's band. =) Anyway, my hat off to the musicians of San Diego! =) Mark! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Jul 1998 11:36:28 EDT From: Jenn92884@aol.com Subject: Jewel on oprah? Dear Digest Readers, I am fairly new to the list....and I am having fun. I have been a Jewel fan since Who Will Save Your Soul. Finally I bought the CD about a year and a half ago, and I still listen to it. I was wondering if someone could tell me if you know when she will be on Oprah. I would appreciate it. Jenn- Downtoearth Angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Jul 1998 10:21:00 -0500 From: "gerdes" Subject: NJC: MIDWEST EDA'S possible gathering idea I almost forgot how to post, its been so long. Anyway August 5th at the Ranch Bowl in Omaha Nebraska Steve Poltz will be playing along with Lisa Loeb. I was wondering if u other midwest eda's might be interested in forming a gathering around this. I was thinking maybe getting together for lunch or supper and then that night go to the concert. I live just 20 miles north of Omaha in Blair. I know there r a bunch of eda's in Kansas and some in Iowa. Just a few of us here in Nebraska but i thought everyone might be interested in this. I know we've been trying to get a midwest gathering together for a long time so this might be another chance at it. If this sounds like a good idea and there is a good response maybe somebody could help coordinate this like, Jay Johnson or Duff or somebody. I know tickets for this can be purchased online at www.ticketmaster.com or you can order by phone. The phone number for the ticket outlets can also be found at ticketmaster's website. I think they r pretty cheap too if i remember right, like 13.50 or something. I can't make the Mary Dolan LRT date down in Kansas but maybe since the Poltz/Loeb concert is still a month away u guys could make it. So anybody from the Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri area who is interested in this please drop me an email with your thoughts and if i get enough response I'll find someone to help coordinate this. If this works out I can find out hotel information if you need it. I've been an eda for 10 months and still haven't met another eda so this might be a great chance for us midesterners to get to know each other. Who knows, maybe Steve Poltz will stop and talk to us. Hope u guys down in Kansas have fun at the Mary Dolan LRT. And then we all need not to forget the fact that she will act in a movie! i still can't believe what i am wittnessing right now :)) i hope the movie will hit the smaller cinemas in Holland too! is there somebody who can tell me an indication of the premieredate? Jewel comes always so naturally on the screen and all her liveconcerts have been special ones ...though i missed her two in holland! i still blame myself for not knowing her at that point (may 97 and november 97!)....i hope she will give holland another chance and another show afert making her second album..! this was what i had to say today about my beloved artist Jewel! greetings, keanu - ------ the angel who thinks Jewel is the most unique person in the world! http://members.xoom.com/Jewelimpala/index.html (A Dutch Tribute Page To Jewel - A Beautiful Angel From Alaska) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Jul 1998 11:13:10 -0700 From: moonsong@ix.netcom.com (Us) Subject: Fanatic Angels, This is totally my fault for not writing it down or reading the info on this carefully. FANatic was one that they reviewed. on a scale of 1-10 it got a 0. yup, a ZERO! i don't have the issue with me right now since i'm at work, but they might have just been rating the first episode and not the whole idea of the show. but who knows? it's a jewel tv appearance no matter what, so i'm still excited! jennie ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Jul 1998 15:13:22 -0700 From: Ben Scott Subject: NJC: ICQ Angels Just wanted to ask for any EDAs with ICQ to look some of us up... we should talk sometime. Tickets are really cheap as it's sponsered by the radio Station. (93.9 The River) The concert is in Pontiac, I believe and the tickets are sold through Ticketmaster. Hope you all can attend!
