Today's Subjects: ----------------- 20Q: Here's the "questions to Jewel" to vote on!! - repost [Mike Connell ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 29 Jun 1998 19:02:28 -0400 From: Mike Connell Subject: 20Q: Here's the "questions to Jewel" to vote on!! - repost Howdy peeps :-) This is just a repost from Saturday night's post announcing the voting for the "EDAs 20 Questions For Jewel" project. Reminder: the deadline to submit your votes for TEN of the below questions is 4:00pm ET USA, Tuesday June 30th :-) Mike The repost: Below are the 40 questions that the panel of list members came up with to submit to you for a vote (after taking the 117 submitted questions and mulling over them for a few days). Some are sort of common, some were certainly predictable, some are surprising, some are funny, some are thought provoking...a wide variety!!! PLEASE, no complaints about any of the questions, nor if yours did not "make the cut". Let's just go with what we got and pick the 20 out of this lot that 'best' represent the "EDAs questions for Jewel" :-) So, in accordance with Jewel's wishes of the EDAs/list members to send her their "top 20" questions, of which she'll answer at least 10, maybe more (maybe not), I ask of you to please read the 40 questions below, and to then pick TEN that YOU would like for her to answer. What I then need you to do is to send me the *numbers* of the TEN you like, NOT the questions, just the *numbers* associated with them. I'll tally up the votes, and the top 20 vote getters will be sent on to Jewel :-) Please send your TEN votes to me (in ONE email) at ducksoup@spectra.net with ONLY the word VOTE as the SUBJECT of the email. Do NOT send them to the list please!! :-) Please send them to me :-) I know some will ask this, so I'll answer it here, vote for ten different questions....do NOT vote for any question more than once. DEADLINE TO VOTE!: All votes must be in my email box no later than 4:00 pm Eastern Time USA on Tuesday afternoon, June 30th. So you have plenty of time :-) I'll post the Top 20 on Wednesday night, along with the vote totals. To the new folk here, or anyone who has been in the ol' cave the last week, and are lost here....basically, in response to a request from Jewel's management on how to inprove the online chats Jewel partakes in occasionally (two in the last month) many list members wrote the special email address set up for taking replies on this matter. In return, in response to the suggestions that came in, Jewel and her mother/manager Lenedra have given the list the opportunity to come up with a batch of questions for Jewel to answer. If you missed it an would like to recieve a copy of the post announcing this "20 questions'" project, just write me and I'll send you a copy. Mike :-) P.S. Note: if you have an email program that employs the use of a "window" for reading the email, some of the emails below will look better format-wise if you mazimize your window. ******** ******** ******** Question #1 - David Beery As a Traverse City, MI. native I have found the fact that Jewel attended Interlochen Arts Academy interesting. So little good information is available on this aspect of your life. I have asked many people, some from Traverse City and some online for information. Some people have said that you did not enjoy your time at Interlochen, that you hated it because you could not learn the blues and would never come back. While other people have said that you enjoyed your times at Interlochen, performing in a play that was only open to members of the drama club, volunteering to pose as a human subject for the arts department many times playing your guitar writing and practicing new songs. It is also said that you performed at a local coffee house on your last day in the region. Please describe the thoughts that enter your mind when you hear comparisons like this. Amy Sorlie ******** ******** ******** Question #29 - Charlie Watkins Compare how you felt about yourself and your future in 1995 when Pieces of You was first released to how you feel about yourself and your future now. Chopped Liver (Charlie) ******** ******** ******** Question #30 - Sean35RL@aol.com You are an artist who has achieved a great deal of success, but I doubt that you would say that you have succeeded. Your music does not hint at you being an easily satisfied person nor does it imply that you will ever be content. For to be content is to lose desire, to stop striving, to settle. You have commented often in songs like Deep Water, most notably, on how we should strive to achieve and never give up our hopes and dreams, to never settle or compromise. This is in glaring contradiction to the prevailing beliefs in our society. We live in a world where pity and sacrifice are considered virtues. To me, however, pity is nothing more than active pity for weakness and sacrifice is, by definition, the surrender of a greater value for a lesser one; to concede. Therefore, a person's worth in our altruistic society is gauged by the degree to which he or she surrenders and betrays his or her values. In your climb to success, by refusing to give up your hopes and dreams you are standing proud in the face of a society that strikes down so many who try. However, on the other hand, I am wondering if there are any compromises, sacrifices, or concessions that you now regret making. And in closing, do you feel that you would have achieved the position your art has procured for you today if you were not physically attractive, if you were more average looking, if you were perhaps even unattractive or ugly? Be well, Sean Hooks (Thank you Jewel, for all the inspiration your music has given me. Hopefully your answer to this question will be an enlightening response.) ******** ******** ******** Question #31 - "Scott, Shannon" If you had the ability to suddenly change into and become any animal in the world today, what animal would it be and why?
