YOU ARE NOT JEWEL'S DEFENDER SHE DOESN'T NEED ONE. But I am sure you do it with her best interests at heart but do you know what happens when you alert this entire list to the prescence of a Jewel hater? They get flamed. Badly. And wrongly. I know this from experience, I happen to have written a few controversial things about Jewel myself, and someone found out about it, posted to the list, and lo and behold I get over 50 flames, plus 2 mail bombs amassing over FIVE HUNDRED EMAILS to me. You all know that there are some very misguided souls on this list, so please don't give them targets. Breakitdown: People are entitled to express their opinion without being flamed for it. If someone posted TO THIS LIST about Jewel, then they are obviously spoiling for a fight, but come on, lets quit starting these fights. BUT I haven't noticed anyone talk about how sugary the author Scott Gray makes entire book. I bought it for amusement and used it as a reference for things I might have forgotten when writing my 10 page paper last night plus it had just enough falisity to keep me laughing and awake all night. I just want to clarify to some newer eda's that some passages we're down right *not true* because of small details left out. Giving the book a rating i would put it at a B maybe a B+. Now I just wonder what everyone else thinks about it and perhaps you could *e-mail me privately with your own thoughts*. One other thing i want to mention is that he talks about her chest size or attractiveness seven times in 167 pages? obviously he thinks that it's important to mention more than once?? And i'm severely protesting that i "made an off-the-cuff remark...because i'm not even sure what that means even though someone tried to explain it to me, but those nit-picky things make a book more *or* less valid. Atlantic promos' usually have no back sleeve pic, just text and the cd is blue with a big Atlantic Records symbol. I mean the front sleeve and back sleeve of PBFGAB both have pics. (Not that Im complaining) It's just promo's are usually plain because record companies dont want to waste money. So they make it as plain as can be. I mean it's nicer than the commercially released single of YWMFM. Also I think the cd it self is one of the coolest Ive ever seen. For those who dont know what it looks like let me try and explain. It has a Jewel illustrated mirror which is reflective like cds which are plain and the rest is an off white color. SO you can see yourself in the mirror. Very creative. The back sleeve also has a really cute pic of Jewel(brunette days) Also the front sleeve has color. Of all the scans Ive seen on the net of the cover sleeve, it was always black and white. Is it just that the color doesnt pick up on the scanner? The front has a woman with a purple bra on, and the other has green hair and green eyes. A clap sound is also purple and the word Jewel is green. If anyone wants a scan of the cd, front and or back sleeve just give me an email. My scanner is collecting dust.(Heehee) Brent ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 May 1998 12:03:51 -0400 From: Liz Timberlake Subject: guitar people For all you guitarists wanting Jewel tabs, please visit the Jewel "Audio Only" Page at http://members.aol.com/jewlpage/ Many people have been requesting songs on the list that already exist there. YOU ARE NOT JEWEL'S DEFENDER SHE DOESN'T >NEED ONE. Thank you, Micheal... I've been thinking the same thing myself lately. Every artist is going to get bad press sooner or later... critics after all, get paid to criticize. If they didn't state an opinion, they wouldn't get paid. Now, I wouldn't expect anybody on here to really be "pro-Jewel-bashing." However, those that do want to criticize her music & her poetry (or her acting, or whatever else she does in the public eye) are entitled to their opinions... getting enraged isn't going to change that. If you don't like what somebody has to say, and absolutely must respond, send a *reasonable*, *calm*, *courteous* message to the person, and tell them that you disagree with their opinion, and tell them why. Don't rant about it on the list... it's a given that 99.9% of the people on here are going to agree with you, so it's not like you're going to change anybody's outlook - that's sort of like going into a Catholic church and trying to convert the congregation to... Catholicism. As one of my friends says, "Stop! You're preaching to the choir." :) Kevin - ---------- Kevin Pease kbpease@boston.crosswinds.net (ICQ UIN: 3106063) http://www.wpi.edu/~kestrel "And as I watch the drops of rain weave their weary paths and die, I know that I am like the rain, there but for the grace of you go I..." --(Paul Simon)-- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Jun 1998 10:46:25 -0600 (MDT) From: Charlie Watkins Subject: Re: A NIGHT WITHOUT ARMOR review..... However it loses another grade to D because of the authors numerous totally wrong statements, especially about Jewel playing HERSELF on the Saturday Night Live skit with John Lovitz! He even makes a big deal out of this fact, when in reality, Jewel wasn't even on that show & was parodied by Ana Gasteyer. A hilarious skit, yes, but certainly not one Jewel had any part in.
