Being one of the old timers on the list at this point (Pre JewelStock, or PJS), and mainly a lurker for the last 18 months, I must admit to deleting 99% of the posts I receive without the benefit of reading them. Having written that, some of you may simply delete this post. But allow a PJSer a moment to reflect about Jewel not releasing her JS material. When Mr. BB conveyed that Jewel did not feel the JS material was in her current spectrum of being, and it would not be released, I was irritated. Sean Hooks then wrote his latest diatribe (Sean's posts are among the 1% that I do read) a few weeks back. I agreed with him on many aspects of it. I could not fathom Jewel shelving "Satellite" and "Nikos". Not having listened to the JS material in probably a year, I decided five days ago to start playing them. As soon as I listened to the words, I immediately concurred with Jewel's decision. While the lyrics are beautiful in their proper context, they are the writings of a then 21 year old person. Just as POY has not reflected Jewel for the last three years, the JS material too falls under the category of "Jewel's bubblegum" era. If that material came out now, her critics would only ravage her even more for writing with teenage/young adult idealism. It could cause irreparable damage to her career. Jewel needs to write as an adult now, and not of KMart and pink fleshy hearts. While the JS material was several steps above that of POY, Jewel needs to reflect something similar to her poetry. While POY was ravaged by many critics for its naiveté, the poetry did not garner such comments. In many circles, the same critics who ripped apart POY lavished praise on the poetry. As a writer and producer of radio dramas, I understand the need to shelf old work for more current shows. Having finally realized the wisdom of Jewel's decision, I can not eagerly await the "holiday" cd. I haven't posted in forever, but I wanted to put my insight in about Adrian. Well, the part about "an unfortunate accident in a canoe" & "The doctor said I'm sorry, not much I can do"made me think that he was in a coma or something. And everyone has given up on him, except the girl "Mary Epperson" ( which I think Is his wife, because it said "she vowed always to watch after him") and when it says, " I'd turn the machines off" I think he dies. well, that's my insight! This is the first time I have written anything to the list so I'm not sure if I sent it to the right place. I was listening to the radio and I heard the very end of a song and it sounded like Jewel but I wasent sure. Some of the words in it were "a game called love" I think, if anyone knows if Jewel sings a song like this please write me back. Hi Everyone~ School is out finally and I'm looking for some summer reading material! Does anyone know what some of Jewel's favorite books are that I might look into reading? Poetry, fiction, anything that she reads/read. If anyone has any other suggestions if you don't know what Jewel reads, I'm open to those ideas as well. Thanks!! - -Kelly ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 12:17:36 EDT From: Rski954@aol.com Subject: A Question Regarding a Signed ANWA Hi - This is my first post although I have been reading and enjoying this list for 6 months now. Can those of you who received signed copies of ANWA please confirm for me whether the poetry books received have a sticker in the front of the book with "Jewel" printed on it in gold ink? The letters are printed, not script. Is this really her signature? I was thinking that the signed copy meant that she would have written in the book itself - not a sticker that was affixed to the book. I am wondering if this is what everyone else received. Bye bye!! >> Actually, no, Mary Epperson isn't his wife, just a girl who used to like him before the accident, and now that he was hurt, she didn't give up on her love. Man, that makes me want to cry, thinking that someone loves someone so much that they will love them even when they are paralyzed and no longer who they loved (like if they loved their personality -- it's no longer there). She doesn't marry him, or she wouldn't visit him on Sundays. She would always be there, you know. He doesn't die when it says "I'd turn the machines off". It was the people around town who said that. Jewel (and Steve) were trying to say that everyone thought his life was pointless so why keep the lie support on, "but still she stood by his side" is the line following that. She didn't listen to any of them and her love burned even when people said he was "gone" (not literally though). Man, that song is beautiful now that I think of it. - -- Mark ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 15:00:58 EDT From: PixieFuel@aol.com Subject: Re: Question???? See, I went to the actual poetry reading where Jewel was in NYC at the Virgin Megastore there with my friends Ginger, Monique and Ben and we all got the "signed copies. However we sat down and none of them were the same. some had re-written lines on them like a bunch of employees sat down and tried to copy her autograph off the cover (underneath the paper flap cover) I have Jewel's signature already on a CD and none of the signatures we had looked like it except in the form of the one i got in my book (which btw was a sticker in the book with gold ink) the one in my book looked like someone just said "forget about it" and started using her own flamboyant signature.. Anyone else wonder about this? Are they the real thing or not? take care - -linda the lovable angel ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 12:10:39 PDT From: "chris braniff" Subject: Re: My Insight on > Mary Epperson isn't his wife, just a girl who used to like him before the accident, and now that he was hurt, she didn't give up on her love.< when i listen to the song i look at it as if adrian was mary's first love mabye like the movie My Girl. that is how i like to think of Mary and Adrian's relationship. i guess the reason i think that is because of the line "he's got big hands but the mind of a little boy" meaning he hasn't been able to grow mentally since his accident. so basicly i agree i just wanted to expand on your idea that marry isn't adrians wife. chris ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Jun 1998 16:04:33 EDT From: DewdropGrl@aol.com Subject: JEWEL ON INTIMATE AND INTERACTIVE TONIGHT!!!!!!
