I'm feeling all cool because I shook his hand and took pictures of him and all that. ^_^ It was a really good vibe and some really nice music... BOY can he play... and BOY does he make interesting faces... ^_^ Songs to watch out for: "The ABCs Of Love, or Take Off Your Shirt And Show Me What You Got", "Why You Goin' Out With That Golds' Gym Guy?" and "My Cel Phone's On The Pill And My Girlfriend's Got Call Waiting". Steve Poltz is Jesse-approved. ^_^ I really, really want to see Jewel perform live... especially in an intimate venue like that, that would be so nice... of course, Jewel's a SUPERSTAR and she'd never be able to play anywhere smaller than the Metro Center (which, for those of you not in the know, is not small at all).. yeah... oh well. I had fun tonight. Hope you all did too, even if you didn't get to see Steve Poltz call his parents while on stage and get two audience members to sing them a song he wrote when he was twelve... ^_^ | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jun 1998 10:56:01 PDT From: "Steve Garner" Subject: Winter Song info hi everyone! It seems that Winter Song is continuing to become a popular tune with us Jewel fans. I have started figuring out how to play it, and have received some e-mails from other guitar players who are also trying to figure it out. Anyone out there who has figured out some parts (it doesn't matter how much!) is encouraged to send your info to the list. Hopefully we can work together and figure the whole song out. Here's what I've come up with so far on how to play it: - - it's played in standard tuning (EADGBE) - - the song is played with a capo on the 2nd fret - - the main chords seem to be G, C(add9), Am, and F. - - there are a few small chord change-overs using what seems to be G/B and C/B. - - most of the chords are played are using Jewel's signature technique of combining strumming with picking & hammer-ons. Here's the lyrics if anyone is looking for them (these are the lyrics Jewel used for the Rolling Stone special... they are a bit different from previous performances of the song). "Winter Song" Turn to me with frozen lips Your hands are icy cold Your eyes so blue Against the frost lit sky You never looked more lovely than you do tonight Pale on the horizon Like leaves frozen in the snow Two shadows merging seperately Time stands still Its pierced with cold The more I live The more I know What's simple is true And I love you Theres warmth in my heart It haunts me when you're gone Mend me to your side And never let me go Time knows nothing And it'll never grow cold The more I live The more I know What's simple is true And I love you Twilight descends On our sillouhette How soon Spring comes How soon Spring forgets I once talked of time Saying "It'll never begin" Old Man Winter be our friend Old Man Winter be our friend The more I live The more I know What's simple is true What's simple is true And I love....I love you ********* Man, what a beautiful song.... IMHO, it's one of, if not THE best song that Jewel has ever written. Simply amazing. Well, if anyone can add to our interpretation of how to play this song, please don't hesitate to post to the list. Bye for now. Steve G. My stepmom is one who is being talked about >in Satellite. Yoga, wheat germ, all this Californian-ish stuff and she doesn't >really know how to react to people's problems. I have a couple cents to add to this thread... First, I think Satellite is a little bit more about people in general... Jewel says something in the Jewelstock tapes to the effect that "we can put a satellite in space, but we can't solve our own personal problems..." - as a species, we're very advanced technologically, but we have trouble figuring out how to have a relationship with other people, and figuring out how to just deal with other people and ourselves on a day to day basis. When you get right down to it, putting a functioning satellite in space is pretty hard, but we do that routinely these days. Yet, something like 50% of marriages end in divorce, we have kids killing other kids in the streets and in our schools, etc. etc. (just watch the news...) Problems like that go unaddressed (sure, everybody wears a red ribbon or a blue ribbon, or whatever color ribbon hasn't already been taken, and it gets a "special awareness week" dedicated to it, but where's the progress, really?), because we just don't know how to deal with these and similar problems, despite the fact that we've been trying to deal with them for centuries now. >As for me, my thoughts and my soul is more important than >my body or my health or being glamorous. That's why California >is such a weird place. I have a bit of a problem with this statement... I agree, being glamorous isn't very important. But I don't think you can have a truly healthy soul if you don't also take care of your body, and *especially* your health. It's all a matter of balance - don't get me wrong, I'm not saying everybody should aspire to look like Mr. Universe (personally, not something I'd want to look like anyway. There should be a law against having too much muscle mass. :), or a paper-thin Glamour Cover Model... but maintaining & taking care of your body (in the sense that you stay healthy, eat right, get a little exercise... not that you have to "look" a certain way) is a big part of being an overall healthy person, mentally and physically. If you neglect your health, saying it's not important, that's not going to do anybody any good. Plenty of medical evidence shows that people who exercise regularly, eat healthy, get enough rest, etc. are happier, healthier, more mentally flexible, and in overall better shape than people who don't. The body, the mind, and the soul aren't really separate parts, nor should they be treated as such. Okay, that's all. I'm done ranting. :) Kevin - ---------- Kevin Pease kbpease@boston.crosswinds.net (ICQ UIN: 3106063) http://www.wpi.edu/~kestrel "I'm a full grown man, that's plain to see, but nowhere near as full-grown as I'd like to be..." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Jun 1998 16:19:04 EDT From: Angeljlb96@aol.com Subject: The Walden Book Report 6/98 Hi everyone... I think we should feel proud that we "get it" and we shouldn't boycott someone just because they don't get it. That is like saying that you won't talk to someone because they don't like Jewel.
