(I don't remember what page, but it was like instead of spelling "of" they spelled "fo" - something like that.) Why is Jewel obsessed about hotdogs? She'd love one of those cute little Wienerschnitzel antenna hotdogs they're selling now. With one of the rare opportunities I get to be at home to see programs during the daytime, I got to see the "The View" interview with Jewel. She made it a point to point out that the title was "night" without a 'k'; she said it referred to the nakedness and aloneness (if that is indeed a word) we feel at night, when we have nothing to hide behind in the form of images or personae, i.e, armor. I suppose the title then exemplifies the intimacy of the poetry behind it. >> Alright, sorry, guys. She didn't explain the "night" when asked about the title on the AOL chat so I got worried. I didn't know she mentioned it in earlier analyzations. Sorry and thanks for correcting my fear. So this my > first attempt at starting a thread. =) What would YOU ask Jewel? these are I'd ask if she has any interest in working with producers such as The Dust Brothers, Prince Paul, Geoff Barrow, The Automator &/or artists such as DJ Shadow, simply because that would be a blending of any two of my favorites... just imagining an album like Pieces Of You produced by any of the above, with Jewel composing and singing... is too nice a fantasy... I'd ask the question just to plant the seed of the idea, since the answer is of little use to me anyway. ^_^ I'd ask if she planned to do a show in Halifax, Nova Scotia at any time for precisely the same reason... planting ideas. ^_^ | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 20:41:16 -0400 From: satchmo4@juno.com Subject: Jewel Poetry reading on Mtv Did they ever show Jewel reading poetry on Mtv at midnight? _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. I don't know how many of you are familiar with Marshall McLuhan. He was a famous Canadian academic/intellectual/media pundit/author in the sixties and seventies. (He's also the patron saint of Wired magazine.) One of his most famous sayings was "The Medium is the Message." One McLuhan's books was "The Medium is the Massage." The title had four meanings, and McLuhan intended all four. They are (I'm paraphrasing the explanations): The Medium is the Massage (each new medium massage our thoughts) The Medium is the Mass age (we are in an age of mass media, mass culture, ...) The Medium is the Message (as intended) The Medium is the Mess age (each new medium makes a mess of the current age) Getting back to ANWA, I've been reading it a bit at a time. I guess poetry's supposed to make you think. This is sorta personal, I guess. Which is good. One of the poems is called "Dionne & I" and I'm not sure I like it. Not in the sense that it's a bad poem -- it's not. I mean I don't like what it says ... about people. I don't like "the system." As a guy, I don't want to play The Game. I want to find the right person and so on. I'm not sure how to explain it. But the idea of how men and women do their little dance, play their little games, well, it's totally unappealing. I mean, it's life, it's not like I change it, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck. The poem kinda reminds me of God's Gift to Women. After reading it a few times, I'm wondering if it was written with the same bitter sarcasm. As for stuff I love...well, I love "Someone to know me." Gives me that warm Near You Always feeling. There are others, but I can't find them right now. Paul ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 14:51:34 EDT From: WiddleyPud@aol.com Subject: Re: AOL Chat (What would you ask Jewel?) Hmmm... I will post a couple or questions I did attempt for Jewel to answer, but weren't. 1) What do you think about the Jerry Springer show? ( maybe she didn't answer cause it had nothign to do woth her poetry, movie or music ) 2) What do you think about the Hanson guys? ( probablly didn't answer again because it had nothing to do with the music, poetry or movie ) I have a question for you guys. What do you think she would have answered to these questions? She's very deep and plays with words a lot. She knew what she was doing when she created that title. But then maybe she was just sporting her e-bonics. Or would that be phonics? And why is phonics not spelled the way it sounds? And why is abbreviation so long? Opps, I am straying again. Anyhow, I have some extra Angel Food left over from unclaimed trades and stuff. Just wanted to say that I think a big deal about nothing is being made over the title of Jewel's book. I never even contemplated that her title was a play on words. I simply always assumed that she was using the word "armor" metaphorically. The word "knight" never even popped into my mind. It's my opinion that the title of her book simply may have came out to appear to some as if she was making a pun or a play on words, but such an effect was not intended. If you believe that she meant to use a play on words, don't get offended or anything (just my opinion and all). I simply believe that any perceived effect was unintentional, and that you're taking the word "armor" far too literally (e.g. gauntlets and breastplates instead of defenses in general). - -Salinger99, The Philosopher Angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 23:23:24 EDT From: MAXMOUZE@aol.com Subject: Re: Big deal about nothing (ANWA thread) In a message dated 98-06-04 23:09:26 EDT, Salinger99@aol.com writes: << Hi, everyone.
