I'm an avid user of Yahoo chat and love it. Yahoo is garuanteed to have a good chat! They have several rooms (up to 4 rooms) for celeb. chats such as this. That makes it a lot easier for people to get in the chat. >From all rooms you can ask questions so that's cool. And the rooms are watched 100% by admin (such as myself) to make sure there are no hakings or anything. Yahoo has a great setup and i hope you like it... The chat will be Monday June 8th at 10pm ET, 7pm PT. Go to http://chat.yahoo.com/ Within an hour of the scheduled chat with a celebrity an Event Room will be created. It can be found on the main page in the Select a room to begin chatting section or in Category listings found with the CHANGE ROOMS button in the Chat Rooms. Enter that room, and you'll see an ASK line at the bottom of the screen where you can ask a question. Submit your question and you'll be assigned a question number. The moderator will ask as many of the submitted questions in the allotted time. You'll see the questions and answers (your number will be referenced) in the Chat screen. The only communication that the celebrity will see is the question. Any regular chatting through the chat line is not visible to the celebrity. ** Scott S.** -Big Sexy Angel "LIFE IS A BIG GAME SO YOU GOTTA PLAY IT WITH A BIG VOICE!" http://homepage.usr.com/b/breezemaker _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Well, she explained the title of the book of being vulnerable and unprotected. So doesn't she mean "A KNIGHT WITHOUT ARMOR"? That is vulnerability. Perhaps she didn't know about the silent K. "Night Without Armor" was never explained and has nothing to do with vulnerability. Sure, it sounds like "KNight" but it's "night", but that's unnecessary. The point Jewel is trying to make is "When you wear armor, you knwo what part of you is sensitive". Without armor is the key to the title. So why would "night" be necessary? Jewel must have spelled "knight" wrong. >> Err....no. :) It's "a night without armor", as taken straight from the cover of the book, which my daddy brought home to me as a surprise tonight :)) He such a sweetie. (side note: he always writes something on the first page of books he gives us kids, and on this one he wrote "To my jewel" - isn't that sweet? *G*). Anyways, it's definitely NIGHT not knight. It's like a play on words, you know? very poetic. A night withour armor. Seems like a lot of linkage to her nights spent alone with her own thoughts, be it sort of isolated emotionally sometimes in alaska (with the divorce, etc), or sleeping in her car.... whatever. :) alana. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 23:40:45 -0700 From: "David E. Had to comment on this one... With one of the rare opportunities I get to be at home to see programs during the daytime, I got to see the "The View" interview with Jewel. She made it a point to point out that the title was "night" without a 'k'; she said it referred to the nakedness and aloneness (if that is indeed a word) we feel at night, when we have nothing to hide behind in the form of images or personae, i.e, armor. I suppose the title then exemplifies the intimacy of the poetry behind it. Hey everybody. Well I saw Hope Floats yesterday, and I noticed in the credits that Don Was was the music producer or something like that. Could somebody give me some information on his working relationship w/ Jewel? I remember some talk about him on the list last year and I know she mentioned him during unplugged so what exactly does/did he do with Jewel? Is he producing anything on the new album? Just curious. On another note... I'm so glad that summer is here and it's the time for EDA gatherings. :) I've never been to one, and I probably won't again this year, but that's not important. I love reading everybody's posts after the gatherings are over! I probably only read about 1% of the stuff on the list anymore because we've been through almost every single subject 5 times over. But the posts on gatherings remind me what a close community EDAs can be, and how much everybody loves each other. :) So Mike, you better not edit out all the posts on EDA gatherings, cuz I'll be pretty damn upset if you do! *hugs* Emily ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 02:29:07 EDT From: Cressyda@aol.com Subject: AOL Chat (What would you ask Jewel?) I agree with the people who have posted that Madison hogged the time on the AOL chat. Not only that, he asked questions twice, and the questions weren't always that good. But there were some great questions . . . in fact there were some of MY questions -- in Madison's words!! =) I like to think he stole them, but in reality, since so many people sent four hundred questions each, it was probably just very difficult to sort through and choose some to actually ask, so I can't let myself be too bitter. Anyhow, I was very disappointed that my exact words didn't get up there because I thought long and hard about my questions, and thought I had some pretty decent ones. In fact (my dream world came alive for a little while) I thought, what if I could interview Jewel??? What would I ask? So this my first attempt at starting a thread. =) What would YOU ask Jewel? these are three questions I might ask: You're obviously very poetic and knowledgable about poetry. Do you also delve into other genres? (short story, novels, essay, etc.) Do you have favorite writers in those areas? I noticed on the Kilcher Alaska store website that you have a very big family! Are you close to all of them? Do you feel that fame has changed you in in a positive or negative way, or not at all? Are you put off by fans who are "star-struck" when they meet you? Do you ever regret moving from the "Coffee shop circuit" to mainstream? Maybe I'll try to get them answered at the Yahoo chat... =) Jessa the complicated angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 03:24:56 EDT From: DmBear978@aol.com Subject: SJC:AOL Chat/Charlie Rose/Booboo? Hey folks, I'm gonna drop in my 2 cents here: The AOL Q&A forum was typical of them(the man,AOL) to keep it almost strictly relating to the recent poetry book. Ok, so I should have seen it coming when Barnes and Nobles sponsered the thing. Damn the man, next time they should have it more casual. My macarroni question didn't even get in. Doe! :) The Charlie Rose show was about as bad as the AOL Q&A. It wasn't even a half an hour, it was less than 10 minutes!! Again the near identical questions from the Q&A were given to Jewel, which was a case of de sha vue(or however you spell the word). And Mark, no flame intended here, whats with the "knight" versus "night" thing? Geez! Maybe you should stick that on your Interpretaion Page :) BTW-An EDA lurker friend of mine and I have been thinking about having a LRC at his house this summer here in CA. I'd be playing. Nothings solid yet, I wondering if anybody is willing to show up and stay awhile. And I'd like to do a duo thing with somebody. Anybody interested? Amidst all the controversy over the new "winter-themed" album, I decided to share my views and maybe give some glimpses of hope to those who are discontented. First of all, the album will not "suck". She has churned out hundreds of songs, and most of us love every single one. We do know that many of the songs on the new album will be familiar to us, right? Therefore, I tried to figure out what some of them might be. Winter Song ( the one she sang on the Rolling Stone thing), Can't Take My Soul, Comfortably Numb, Cold Song, and His Pleasure Is My Pain, all have winter-related themes or stanzas. So, my thinking is that some of these, if not all, will most likely be on the album. Personally, I think these are great songs, as I'm sure you guys do too! With love, Liz P.S. For all you Latin scholars out there, I may be completely deluded when I say this, but do Jewel's lyrics on these winter-themed songs sometimes remind anybody of some of Horace's odes? (Primarily the "diffugere nives" one). I recently took the Latin V AP exam, so the material is just a little too fresh in my head, if you know what I mean-everything seems to relate!:) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Jun 1998 11:44:31 -0300 (ADT) From: Jesse A McDonald Subject: Re: Typo makes a BIG booboo? > We all know Jewel isn't the BEST at spelling or punctuation (no offense, but > she isn't -- it's not an insult, it's true). Jewel must have spelled > "knight" wrong. I'm sure that someone as literate as Jewel couldn't POSSIBLY have made that mistake. It seems to me that it's likely to be a double-entendre just for its own sake, if nothing more than that. However, it's been described as her lowering her defenses (of sarcasm, humor) and exposing herself, right... but that's a presumably temporary lowering, since it's not abandoning them. And so I think "a night" indicates that it's a brief glimpse into the inside... I totally agree. Jewel is an amazing person with an amazing talent. She is one of the few people who is brave enough to stand up and say, "Hey! This is me! This is what i love! Take it or leave it!" We live from example and experience. Jewel is a great person to look up to and take example from. But we have to remember that she is only human. She will do what her heart bids and like any other human, she will need support and understanding in her endeavors. I think some people have to think about this and try to understand that she is her own person. I am a tremendous Jewel fan. I don't worship her or idolize her. I admire her greatly for the person that she is and the better person that she is striving to become. I admire her for her bravery, courage, heart, and a million other things. The fact that I don't hold an altar in my room and pray to her posters(big exageration!) doesn't make me any less of a fan. If she makes a decision that you feel dissapoints u....if u end up saying,"I can't believe she would do something like that!"....you shouldn't blame her. She didn't let u down, it was your very own notions that u instilled in your head as to who and what she is that was wrong. if you feel dissapointed or let down, I'm sorry u feel that way, but it was you and only u who got u stuck in that position. Jewel is who she is and we should appreciate and learn from her honesty, determination, and sympathetic heart. So....in conclusion....Quit Bitching!!!!!
