I just joined this list(I have no idea why it took me forever). I've been a Jewel fan for a long time now and when I first got the internet not that long ago I discovered that there was this album called "Save the Linoleum" floating around out there for those Jewel worshipers(God isn't she the greatest?). Anyways, if any of you wonderful EDA's could tell me where or how to get that CD, or would like to record it for me, can you please e-mail me and I'll love you forever. Love, ~Kate~ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 May 1998 18:01:45 PDT From: "* Jewel *" Subject: My Thoughts... Hey guyz...heres some of my thoughts on some of the issues. Everyone has imperfections. Something I've always admired about Jewel is that she has curves and flesh. She doesn't strive to be a 2lb. Glamour model! Some of her poems, like "Envy", shows that sort of view. On another issue...her new 'Christmas Album'...I don't know what to think. I am a little disappointed, but we're all jumping to conclusions that this album is gonna suck...I doubt that...Jewel's POY cd was not my everyday listening kind of music I was into when I got the cd...and I luv it! Chill out guyz! Also, I would think that her next album after that, due in 1999, would most likely contain a couple of her old songs that we all have gotten to memorize and love throught all the angelfood. Maybe not, but I think she'll stick something on there. If not, I bet both cds are gonna be cool! So, everyone just sit back, relax, and enjoy everything that Jewel is and has artisticly given us! I decided to actually voice my opinion on the whole Bearsville Recordings thread. I, too, am quite dissappointed that Jewel is not releasing this, but I am also very much looking forward to this new album. I do disagree with Sean on his opinion of the POY songs being shallow, because (even though they are nowhere near my favorites) they are still great songs. BUT I don't particularly think it was a very strong album, either. IMHO, the unreleased songs are definately the best. I am highly dissappointed that "Fritz Creek Store" isn't coming out anymore, but I am also very excited to get some new material...I knew about 99% of the songs recorded at Bearsville, and it will be nice to get something I haven't heard. If I don't like it (which I believe is highly unlikely), hell, I still have my angelfood. >>Jewel's beauty is not in her purity or angelicness,<< This, however, I tremendously disagree with. Though I LOVE her angry songs...and most of my favorites lie within that category, I do happen to love most of her softies, as well. I think the most beautiful part about her is how angelic she is (in that everyday way...meaning she gets angry, too). The fact that she is so innocent and began her career ignorant to the horrors of everyday life just makes her all the better. I DO hope that one day the Bearsville recordings will be released in some way, shape, or form (meaning B-sides, imports, or even angelfood), but I am still very excited about her new album. Thanks for listening... Love, Jamie *the everyotherday angel* http://members.aol.com/angeljlb96/grey-matter.html ******OH yeah! I saw Indigo Girls on pop-up video today! Hi all!!! I've only been an EDA for just over a week (and I'm really enjoying it, especially the wonderful people I've met so far) and I've already had a few posts but nobody really knows who I am yet so I'd better introduce myself... I'm a 23yo guy and I'm Jewel's biggest New Zealand fan (well, I think I am, anyway!!!). I've been a HUGE music fan ever since I begged my dad to get me Michael Jackson's "Thriller" LP (yup, vinyl... how many of us remember that?) back in '83... I'm into almost anything (how many CD collections can claim to have stuff by Metallica, The Fugees, Ween, Spice Girls AND Beethoven?) but Jewel IS the greatest... even as the huge Beatles fan I am (I've got all their CD's & videos) I rate her songwriting up there with the likes of Lennon/McCartney... anyway, enough about me... I've probably bored half of you to death already... now, so far I've only expressed my personal opinion directly to the individuals, but this time I really feel my views needs to be seen... > be the Bearsville recordings or any semblance thereof. Gone are the plans > for an album that would feature the likes of Moon Over Austin, Nicotine > Love, Sometimes it be That Way, 1,000 Miles Away, the album where the two > first singles were already planned to be Carnivore and Satellite, the firstly, I agree that "Fritz Creek Store" would've been a fantastic album BUT why should a 24yo Jewel pretend to still be the 22yo Jewel she was when she wrote the album? As we all know, the 22yo Jewel who put out POY was actually promoting an album representative of Jewel aged 17-19, songs obviously from a more naïve perspective, nothing like the 22yo she was. so here we are in 1998 and Jewel announces she will be releasing an album of entirely NEW '98 Jewel music and people are complaining!!! sure, I'd love to own good quality studio recordings of "1,000 Miles Away" & "Sometimes It Be That Way" BUT if I had to choose between that or a whole lot of fresh, new material I haven't heard before, I know what I would rather have... besides, most of "Fritz Creek Store" us EDA's already own as angelfood anyway... > thing. I've always thought Pieces of You was not a strong album and almost > all of the best Jewel songs are non-album unreleased stuff. I'm Sensitive, > YWMFM, Painters, and Morning Song are among Jewel's weaker, more shallow, > more one dimensional songs and I have always disliked them. And also, I don't agree that POY is a weak album... it is a COMMERCIAL album, but musicians are expected to sound commercial to get played on radio... why do you think "God's Gift To Women" & "Race Car Driver" ended up on "Save The Linoleum" and not POY? is it because they are bad songs? no! it's because they are not commercially-viable songs... anyway, now she has made a name for herself she probably has more freedom over the sound of her new album... Jewel's best characteristics? well, besides her amazing voice, incredible musical ability and stunningly beautiful looks (yes, I like her teeth just the way they are...) I would have to say it is her ability to appreciate people for who they are, without letting things like physical appearance get in the way... something I think a few of us EDA's have yet to learn... I am really looking forward to the christmas album. Mainly because of the fact that the material will be new. I would have bought FCS simply for the quality of the recording I would have recieved. Some of the recordings on angelfood are kind of poor. However the fact remains that I have most of the material that would have been on the album. (Or I think I do anyway) Now the chance to have new unheard tracks I find quite wonderful. Also, I wouldn't be too quick to put down the latin songs. The thought of Jewel singing in a foreign tongue is quite apealing to me personally. I think we as americans are too quick to turn out back on things that aren't in English. I think this is really sad. When I came over to Germany I was exposed to so many wonderful artists like Jean Jaques Goldman, Mylene Farmer, and Eros Ramazzotti to name a few. Also a lot of english speaking singers are doing things in other languages. Sting did a duet in italian with Pavarotti and also a portugese track on Red Hot and Rio. George Michael sang desafinido on the same album. Tina Turner and Eros Ramazzotti just did a duet called Cose Della Vita, a wonderful track. So what I'm saying is let Jewel give it a shot as well. However, being Latin an unused language nowadays, I'm wondering if the song will be chanty like.. ie.. Monk type music or modernish with latin instead of English. Anyway I'm done babbling. Feel free to debate this further as this is one of the more interesting subjects we've been on. I'm gonna go out on a limb here, now that I've actually heard this real audio file of the supposed Jewel song "Wish You Were Here". (For those confused, many have been asking about this song as its circulating on the NET as a soundtrack song from Jewel's upcoming movie & is credited to Jewel Kilcher.) Although there's some vague similarity to Jewel's voice, in my opinion, this is NOT Jewel. Plus the lyrics are so insipid, I can't believe Jewel wrote this. I consider this too ridiculous to call immediately, but I did drop Lenedra an email about it & I'll have thier input (on what I believe is a scam) tommorrow probably. If in some bizarre parrallel universe, this does turn out to be Jewel, then I'll be the first to say publicly that this is the worst piece of #*@% she's ever written! Again, I don't have "official confirmation" but in my opinion, this is nothing more than a lame joke at best. OK. Flame me at will! It couldn't possibly be worse than if it turns out to really be Jewel, hehehe.... ;-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 28 May 1998 21:32:39 -0700 (PDT) From: 90 blackwell Subject: Re: your mail I am really looking forward to the christmas album. My friend has this copy of PoY and she bought it through BMG and the actual CD is way different from my copy or any other copy I've seen. First Jewel is all blue/greenish color(the pic where she's jumping on the cd itself) and the name on it is different too-different font, so I was wondering if this is like a rare thing or if anyone else has this and it's no big deal? And then secondly, My Teacher, today, was the coolest because this morning when she was buying coffee she said that she just happened to find this postcard of jewel-it was an advertisement for ANWA-anyway she got it for me and I just thought that it was soooo nice of her especially because she's usually such a bitch. She told me where she picked the postcard up so I might be able to get a few more, I'll get back to ya guys on that-anyone else have this? ok I'm going, Aurorah ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #289 ***************************
