Y'know, since no-one is perfect... any time you talk about someone you're discussing their imperfections... because people don't have perfections... And y'know, her poetry explicitly alludes to her crooked tooth... she publishes her songs under Wiggly Tooth Music... I think she's pretty secure with her tooth, I don't think it's likely that she'd be really upset about a thread discussing whether it exists... I mean I know she's sensitive and all, but if she's got enough guts to put stuff like that into her art, it would be downright weird if she got upset about other people discussing it. I mean, she's the one bringing it up... do we have to ignore it to be PC? | Jesse Dangerously http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/~ad309 | subterranean seraph 16 Trust Everyone | ad309@chebucto.ns.ca Ekam Sat, Viprah Bahudha Vadanti | ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 13:11:13 -1000 From: Brent Masao Anbe Subject: Jewel promo attainment Hi all, I just wanted to past on some little advice. If you see Jewel promos such as cardboard pieces etc. Ask the salesperson if you can have them. I know someone recently posted about reserving the ANWA display just by asking. It inspired me to try it out. I recently did this at KMART. Actually I said I found it on the ground and if I could have it? (Small little itsy bitsy lie,I know) The person said sure just take it. It was a triangle folded double sided pic of Jewel in a purple tank top with really thin straps and her hair is up. Very beautiful. If anyone knows where the pic is from, please email me because I swear Ive seen that pic before. But I cant remember. Feeling good I went to a local used cd shop and asked them if they gave away there promotional items. They said sure(I was shocked and delighted) They told me to write my name and number down and the product I wanted. Then they would give me a call when they take it down. I just got a cool Green Day cardboard picture from them. They have a Paula Cole one also if anyone wants it I'll just charge for shipping (but it would be great if you could offer some Angelfood) More hints to help you out: 1. Ask someone who looks cool and young because they can relate to you and in the case of you being older, they respect you more 2.Dont be afraid to ask! 3.Dont pay ridiculous prices from online companies (You will go broke!!!) 4.Remember the worst thing that can happen from asking is them saying no. 5.Be polite and dont ask when they are busy Well good luck Brent ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 21:32:52 EDT From: GeeNaa84@aol.com Subject: Showbiz Today I was wondering if Showbiz Today with jewel aired yet and if not when will it? Hi everyone! I'm proud to announce the release of "Spiderboy", the Steve Poltz Fan Newsletter. Put together with the consent of Steve and his management, this fanzine is a way for fans to keep in touch with the goings on of Steve Poltz, past and present. In the first issue of "Spiderboy", we have news on Steve, tour dates, a review from a show in Philadelphia, an interview with Steve after a recent show in Belmar, NJ, and an article by Alan Poizner (moderator of the Steve Poltz/Rugburns mailing list) of his adventures as a Rugburnsroadie for a few days in late '96. In future issues, we hope to bring current news on Steve, concert reviews, features on other great San Diego musical talents, and whatever else we can think of. We also welcome fan submissions, and if we use your work, you'll receive a free future issue. We also plan on being on the web soon as a part of Eric Jones' great Steve Poltz site, "Drunk Like Me", which you can find at: http://home1.gte.net/ericj1/rugburns/index.html We will have parts of the newsletter available on the web site, along with some extras, but the "Spiderboy" newsletter will be the flagship of the fanzine, with the web site being a companion to us. For information on how to get the first 12-page issue of this quarterly publication, email us at: SpiderboySP@hotmail.com Thank you in advance for trying us out, and take care. When people (that aren't really big fans) talk about Jewel her teeth do often come up. I don't see why that is a big deal to some people. I think her crooked teeth add to her beauty and messages she sends across in "Pieces of You". About how you should look on the inside and not who is ugly or pretty or races or religions and make assumptions about those people. Her teeth are how she is and I love that she doesn't feel self- concious about them. Gwyneth Paltrow said, "Beauty, to me, is feeling comfortable in your own skin". I think Jewel demonstrates this. I am sorry, but it was late when I first posted the thing about how Jewel said in some interview that she really disliked the notion of people constantly looking at her pictures to find imperfections. Hey, it would really bother me too. Oh, by the way, when I said in my previous post that Jewel had imperfections, well, what I meant to say was she's human. We all are. And who's to say that crooked teeth are bad? I think it is silly of us even to be talking about it. We shouldn't be. It's not going to solve anything or bring up anything new we haven't already thought of. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 22:51:17 -0400 From: Mike Thiel Subject: Angelfood? Please? :) Well, I guess it's about that time when I start asking for Angelfood ... I've been on the list for over a year now, but haven't asked for much of it (although I do have a *bit*). So if anyone, from the kindess of their hearts :) , would like to make me some copies of ANY of her stuff (like Jewelstock or MTV Unplugged ... still REALLY want those ... dunno why I haven't asked before ...), it would be greatly appreciated. I'll pay for the shipping and the price of the tapes, of course. Thanks a lot!! Mike P.S. If anyone has the Fiona Apple Unplugged, I'd really like that, too. :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 10:04:16 -0700 From: Video Tapes Subject: Re: IN HONOUR OF JEWEL'S BIRTHDAY For jewels birthday we went to an Avail concert where we gave a few organizations some cash. we donated to Food Not Bombs and Farm Aid. After the Avail concert we went to the Food Not Bombs concert (free of charge) where we gave some $$ for the cause (i think everyone benifits from this.) Any way we had a pretty fun night. I am not quite sure how much money food not bombs made but any amount helps. - -Angel w/ a spike ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 May 1998 23:36:15 -0400 (edt) From: Jason Keis - DRulz Subject: Jewel / and what kinda annoyed me today Heya fella EDAz, ::Sigh:: ... This may or may not be totally relevant to any of the current discussions on the list, but I figured this is the most appropriate place to say a few words about something that really pissed the hell outa me today... While at school (had to take a philosophy final), I bumped into a friend of mine who's really into music. He knows a lot about the industry as he has some connections, well... supposedly, so he says. But anyway, I had Jewel in my walkman... and well, for those who know me, Metallica and Megadeth shirts practically make up my entire wardrobe hehe.. He's totally into heavy metal too. He gave me this tape and got me into all of these other groups that I never heard of, as I am always open to new things. Music is music... I feel there's a lot too offer in the music itself, so I choose not to limit myself to one particular genre, (although I prefer to play metal when it comes to my band and all). I am into all sorts of stuff besides Metallica and Megadeth and all of the other bands which are closely associated to them. My first concert was a Monkees concert. At age 8 I got myself a guitar (which I eventually dumped) because I wanted to someday become the next John Lennon hehe. Since then I've been to a lot of concerts including the Moody Blues, Billy Joel, ELP, 3 Dog Night, Donovan, Jethro Tull, and many, many others including but not limited to other heavy metal bands as those mentioned above... Anyhow, this guy asked me who I was listening to, so I told him it was Jewel... and this was the kicker... he looked at me really funny and with a sarcastic laugh, all he had to say was, uhh... eh, I'd rather not say exactly... Although I think she's highly attractive, perhaps the most attractive woman I've seen thus far, what appealed to me the most was her voice and her musical talent... Ok... I am in love with her vocal chords... hehehe. She possesses the most gentle, elegant, beautiful... all of the above voice of them all. Her writing talent is superb too. Sometimes I wonder what reality would be like if I had known her, or at least someone almost exactly like her... someone who wrote her songs, her music.. hehe.. ok... HER. ;) All those who do know her are very fortunate as I whole-heartedly believe that such a relationship would be beneficial to one's soul - a soul, for those who believe in it, consisting of the mind and individuality and by extension, memories. The soul really makes the person who he or she is... and what really adds to that are those who we know and care for.... ugh.. I got mushy again. :P Anyway... I don't know if I stated my position correctly or not... my mind is really on biology as I have yet another final exam tomorrow. If Jewel didn't really suit this guy's taste, he could have replied differently...
