Just wondering! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 May 1998 16:40:27 -0400 From: Mike Thiel Subject: NJC: Dayna Manning Hey there, everyone. Ok ... here's the thing ... I'm trying to set up a mailing list for Dayna Manning. Many of you probably have NO idea who she is. Well, for starters, she's a 19 year old Canadian singer, born and raised in Stratford, Ontario. She's released one album, called "Volume 1" ... it's in stores now. ;) For more information, go to her official homepage at: http://www.daynamanning.com So like I was saying, I wanna start a mailing list for her. Personally, I have never met Dayna, and I know very little about her. That's why I'm trying to start this list! To learn more about this amazing musician, and for all the Dayna fans in the world will unite as one!! :) If you're interested in joining this list, send an e-mail to me at: felix_the_cat@geocities.com and put "Dayna List" or something like that in the subject or body of the message. If there is a lot of interest, then I will go through with the list. If there isn't any interest, then at least I can say that I tried. :) Thanks for reading! Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 May 1998 18:21:46 -0400 From: Magister Ludi Subject: In case someone needs an archive for their JewelSite... I joined this mailing list today and this is my first post; If it's off-topic, please forgive me... I was first impressed by Jewel, years ago, when MTV first put her "restroom" video in rotation; Shortly thereafter, I purchased "Pieces of You" and ever since, I have gone out of my way to catch a glimpse of her on the boob tube, whenever I knew she would be gracing it with her presence. I also was one of the few people, who could find Homer on a map, long before Miss Kilcher quit hitch-hiking and before, Northern Exposure told the rest of the world that Alaska is cool; Though, I do believe that I first heard of Homer from Tom Bodett and I've moved from one corner of the country to another and to several places in between, plus back and forth to Europe almost continuously over the past decade; Unfortunately, I've always gotten sidetracked before I reached her magical home. So, some of you may judge me unqualified; But luckily, I've found my own magical place(s); And if you don't believe me, go find Ocracoke on a map. Which brings me to the point of this note; I stayed home and watched her on "media day", last week. Luckily, when you own the company, you can do things like that... And not only was I knocked out by her grace and beauty I was also quite happy to see how much she has grown... That's what prompted me to do today's websurfing and that's how I found the EDAs and this mailing-list. Unfortunately, several links I discovered this afternoon were broken. This included both, links from archive sites and links in the webring. And, since I've got good-sized corner at the top of the web; I'd like to offer to host meaningful JewelSites for free. Drop me a line and tell me your ideas... Point the way to your endangered sites... Give me an outline and synopsis of your historical site... All submissions and suggestions will get some form of feedback. Meaningful JewelSites will get a Freeweb Service Agreement via Return Email. And please rest assured; This is not an advertisement for services. This is just one of the first public steps of an ambitious website dedicated to the advancement of Art, Politics and Religion. JewelSites and sites by EveryDay Angels will fit-in nicely, as we fill-in the spaces around them with other sites that forward our cause(s) and which aids others in discovering the meaning of life. She was at the Simmer Grind or somethign singing WWSYS. She had a lot of purple on. She had a purple skirt and scarf and she had sunglasses. She had the most beautiful voice and the cutest smile. That is what captured me. Stevie The Performing Arts Angel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 May 1998 19:25:26 EDT From: PENNY16161 Subject: NJC:My new page Hi guys. Is it true that Jewel has crooked teeth? I've seen Jewel quite a few times, but I've never noticed her teeth. Not that I think it matters, I'm just wondering if I'm going blind. In my opinion, not that anybody cares, I think that Jewel's teeth being crooked is like Kate Moss being fat. Yeah right! I ran in and asked them if they could give it to me when they are done with it and they said they can. I gave them my number and everythign and so i am going to get this!! And then as i walked out, i saw the Audio CD. There were pretty much a few of them. I can help you EDA's get it if you want. And one more thing... I was listening to the college station tonight and they played a live version of an Ani Difranco tune, I forget which one, but i fell in love with it. I'm willing to trade anyone with Ani-food for some angelfood, my sparse collection. It had a color photo of her on the lead-in on the front page and the article continued later in the section. It's all about ANWA and even has one of the poems as an exerpt from the book. The Free Press Writer gives a good reveiw of the book and asks some interesting questions from a phone interview with her. If your interested in the article it might still be available at the Detroit Free Press website. Also I saw a post ask people to recall the first time they heard Jewel. For me it was the summer of 95. I was driving from home into town for something (probably to go to the mall) and I tuned into the local station 103.3. All of a sudden I heard this angelic voice on the radio singing WWSYS. Afterward the DJ said that it was Jewel and that she was an up and coming singer who had attended Interlochen. That was all it took for me! I was hooked on Jewel. After that I hurried to the record store to get her album but was unable to find it for almost a month. I asked friends and people in stores if they knew anything about Jewel but no one did. Oh, the pain and suffering I had to go through to find Pieces of You. OK... the first time I heard Jewel would have been in either late '95 or early '96 when my local station first started playing WWSYS... I loved the kinda jazzy feel to it, it reminded me a bit of that old song "Fever"... so anyway, on about the 3rd or 4th time I heard it I rushed out and got the single, expecting her just to be a one-hit-wonder or something... you know, one of those people who puts out an album with ONE good song on it and the rest is crap... I couldn't believe how wrong I'd been as I listened to the 2 other tracks "Pieces Of You" & "Emily" (New Zealand single)... that MADE me rush out and get the album and I haven't looked back since !!! now I make sure I get all the singles now too cos her b-sides are just as good as her album tracks, sometimes even better... I also remember that soon after WWSYS came out she got interviewed on Holmes, a NZ television program... I think at that stage I was about the only person in NZ who knew who she was... I remember trying to explain to the shop assistant who she was when I bought the album... even though I'd only ever heard three of her songs and knew that she came from Alaska !!!
