(she looks fabulous all the time of course, but I just thought i'd say it again). Anyways, I'm really looking forward to getting a copy and immersing myself in the world of Jewel's poetry. I would have gotten one today but the bookstore I was in only had the book, and I really want to get the book AND the CD together. Do any bookstores sell the book and CD together? If so, can anyone tell me where I may find it?? I live in Whitby, Ontario. Bye for now! Steve P.S. Can someone tell me the name of that song Jewel performed on the Rolling Stone special? I was wondering if you guys were doing anything special for Jewel's birthday today. I 'm going to donate a book to my library with a nameplate stuck on the inside front cover saying" IN HONOUR OF JEWEL KILCHER". My library has a very old collection and is in great need of new books. So tell me if any of u guys are doing something special! xxx Vlada. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 May 1998 06:50:00 -0700 (PDT) From: Scott Evans Subject: Jewel on Access Hollywood, etc. I was just thinking...if today is Jewel's birthday, then all of those programs like Access Hollywood would have her picture on during birthday greetings...I'll have my VCR ready just in case....Anyway, bye! -Scott ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 May 1998 08:40:18 -0700 From: klbastarache@juno.com (Krystal L Basatarache) Subject: poetry contest?? Hey guys, I just got back on the list yesterday after being gone seven way-too-long months(because of a screwed up e-mail server), and I heard something about a Jewel poetry contest. Could some sweet angel out there fill me in? I love writing poetry and would like to enter. So if you could fill me in you'd be my new best friend :-) Also, i've missed you guys a lot so if anybody would like to fill me in about the last 7 months, I'd really, really appreciate it. luv and kisses, Krystal the angel w/ gossamer wings ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 May 1998 06:52:10 -0700 (PDT) From: Scott Evans Subject: Question I have a question for everyone: When was the first time you ever heard Jewel? I was going over my Jewel tapes, and I remembered that the first time I had ever heard Jewel was on VH1 Duets with Melissa Etheridge a few years back...I am glad my sister is obsessed with Melissa, or I wouldn't have ever seen it. If you have the tape, my favorite part is Jewel's solo on "Love and Affection" BTW, Happy birthday to Jewel!! I hope there are many, many more to come! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 May 1998 11:08:50 EDT From: JewelFan50 Subject: ANWA inappropriate? Hey!! I'm only twelve so my Mom says she'll have to read my friends copy of ANWA to see if I can buy it because " I think Jewel's music and probably her poetry too is PG-13 rated, if not R." Parents!!! Anyway, if whoever read her book would like to tell me if there is anything in her book that would make my mom not allow me to buy the book, please let me know. But, hey, even if she says I can't read it I can always read my friend's copy and save $15. (Just Kidding) Bye!! When I bought ANWA, the clerk made a remark that kind of upset me. I'm not the type to harass people who have any criticism whatsoever about Jewel, but this comment was just pretty bratty. Even if someone else's face was on the cover of the book, it was just a stupid remark. The clerk picks up the book, flips it over to scan it, and comments, "Oh, I wasn't aware she needed a nose job." Jewel does have a little bit of a crooked nose- but it's what so many people would call 'imperfections' that make her all the better of a person. And no one NEEDS a nose job. Where'd that come from? So my opinion on ANWA: I love it. It's gorgeous. It ranges from the very simplistic to the very metaphoric poetry, but regardless, it conveys messages that are so powerful. Some of them are very blatent (like the line about father-son bonding by ogling at her breasts), some of them are woven with gorgeous analogies and metaphors, but both are so very beautiful and moving. They remind me very much of her songs, yet the poetry is also so individual and each varies in emotion so much. Just my opinion, Snowy ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 May 1998 16:23:44 EDT From: Prism14960 Subject: SJC:My essy that mentions Jewel won 1st place! =) Hey Angels, Guess what happened yesterday? I went to Awards Day at my school yesterday and it ends up that an essay I wrote won first place in this like open contest for a bunch of schools. The Jewel content in this post is that I mentioned Jewel a lot in the essay. The topic was "How I Can Promote Peace in my Everyday Life." Oh yeah, I won $100!!!! Yay! =) I'm excited, considering I have no other income. Well, if anyone wants to read it just drop me an email. =) (oh, one more thing, now with this plus the money I've been saving, I just might be able to get a guitar very soon!) Bye Angels, have a nice day. =) Peace, Priscilla. Fortunately, while I was looking for it, I came across a book called Heart Song: The Story of Jewel, by Scott Gray...I bought it, and just a few pages into it I can tell it's well worth the five dollars I spent on it...Right now, my Jewel collection is very, very, VERY small, consisting of only POY, two biographies, and numerous articles and pictures. Being that I'm twelve, I can't go out and buy everything that is Jewel-related...but I'm getting there...I didn't spend any of my money on Jewel before because I didn't have any idea where to get this stuff, but now I can get stuff through this list, The Jewel Store, etc. I plan to get ANWA when it comes to the stores near me, but until then, I guess I have to wait (im)patiently....I guess I've babbled on long enough, so I'll go now.... -Scott- BTW, I hope Fritz Creek Store has Somtimes It Be That Way on it....That's my fav Jewel song :) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 23 May 1998 14:48:19 -0400 From: lillie Subject: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!! boundary="------------3BBC82CBDE205F0EE4A14BBB" Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk - --------------3BBC82CBDE205F0EE4A14BBB Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JEWEL Hello all you great EDA'S, just posted to see what everyone else is doing for her birthday.
