MUST READ!!! well, to start things off, my friend and i didn't even know where the show was untill i talked with Mike Connell on the computer about 7pm yesterday. at that time he informed me that he needed me to give Cindy a message. he gave me the message and we left for cincinnati. ( we live near dayton ) we arrived at the venue around 9pm. an empolyee led us downstrais to where she was. now keep in mind, up untill this point niether my fried nor myself had ever seen her or heard her music. we get down there and she was on the phone with Mr BB. (which was the message i was supposed to give her, call Alan) anyway, she gets off of the phone and we introduce ourselves. we also met C.J. who is on this tour with her. i asked her what time she was supposed ro go on. she said 9pm according to the contract. by this time it's 9:20pm. so we just sat ther and chatted for a good long while. there were two other bands on the bill. both of those bands were death metal bands. at 10:20 the first band was still doing their sound check. it didn't look like Cindy was going to get on stage untill about 11:30. so she went to talk to on of the guys from the club. didn't help. not only did he say that he didn't know when she would get on stage, but also that the promoter never mentioned anything to the club about money. which means that not only would she be on stage more than two hours late she also wasn't getting paid. seeing as how my friend and i were the only two people there to see her anyway, Cindy, C.J., and myself carried all of thier stuff downstairs. at that point she says to CJ,"I'm gonna go ask the bar maid if they will turn down that jukebox so tha i can give these guys a couple of songs." my jaw hit the floor! after all that had happened she was still willing to do that. well the bar maid said no, so Cindy, my friend, and myself went into the bathroom where she sang the "Skip Song" for us. it was very kewel. after that, Cindy pulled the car around front for loading. we bought some CD's and helped load her stuff into her car. she apologized for what had happened and told us how glad she was that we had shown up. she said,"I'm relly touched. i wish i could take you guys with me." i said,"I wish we could go!" we finished loading the car. she hugged us both and we said our goodbye's. she also told us that when we get to california that she will put on a show for us. pretty kewel, huh? well that's it. by the way, her CD's are awsome!!!!! --jeff ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 12:28:19 -0400 From: Allan Subject: Jewel in Billboard http://www.billboard.com/daily/0513_04.html ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 08:36:00 -0700 From: Gerrit Kruidhof Subject: Poetry Book - Presigned Hey everyone, I called up the San Francisco Virgin Records store and they're holding books for people. Thanks! ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 17:31:03 EDT From: ABershaw Subject: MrBB-Andres Condon Hi all, This goes back a ways, but earlier this year the topic "what music is Jewel listening to lately?" came up. At that time, I mentioned a musician from Chile' named Andres Condon that both Jewel & Lenedra like a lot. Since then, several have written me asking for more info about Andres & how to order his CD. For those interested, Andres Condon is a South American (Santiago, Chile') composer & musician. A while back he become friends with Jewel & Lenedra. Last September, Lenedra performed an incredible live set as a member of his large 10 piece ensemble Copihue. Andres also performs as a duo with his friend Eddie Wood (known as Cuerocuerda). Another interesting sidenote is that they have done several "LRT" type gigs for California fans of South American music over the past few years (so he's hip to the "Living Room Tour" philosophy!). Hi current CD called "Nomad" is primarily a solo outting with Andres playing a large variety of stringed instruments from different cultures from around the world. These compositions are unified by soft ambient "natural environment field recordings" of Chile's southernmost forests. Andres music has been described as "Classical Chamber Contemporary". Classical due to the instruments used, Chamber because of the style & Contemporary for the arrangements. When asked what Andres goal is with his music, he says "I think that what I'm trying to connect with is to make people feel pleasant, nothing more than that. What I want to show through my music is that sometimes, we have something in our minds that we haven't remembered. Then suddenly, one note will make them say, ah! It's like a reminder of where we belong to. Andres now has a mail order setup if you are interested in listening to his CD. You can order Andres Condon's current CD "Nomad" by sending a check or cash (includes shipping) to: Andres Condon P.O.Box 232501 Encinitas, CA 92023-2501 Checks should be sent payable to Andres Condon. The price of the CD is $14.00 & this includes shipping in the United States. At this time, international ordering is unavalable(, but I think he's working on that because he is well known in South America. International EDAs will need to find a US EDA friend to send it to you for now, if interested.) Andres also has an earlier CD out in South America(only) that I personally like a lot, & he may make that re-available in the future. He's also working on several interesting projects now including one with the San Diego Symphony. Lenedra introduced me to Andres last year & he's a really nice guy. (He was travelling along during the first few nights of Jewel's Papillon Tour last year) He may also do some West Coast LRT gigs this summer & I'll keep you updated on that. Hope that helps those who've been asking me about Andres & gives others an opportunity to expand your musical horizons with a recommendation from Jewel & Lenedra. :-) MrBB ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 15:35:27 PDT From: "Oink oink" Subject: NJC: Virgin Megastore in SF / Steve in Berkeley? I remember, a couple of months ago, someone said that a girl sang Carnivore at a school talent show and tried to pass the song off as her own song. I was just wondering what ever happened with that, because I remember that this person said that he would try and get back at her or something like that, that would expose her. Now two videos, Brent and mine, is obviously not enough to make an outstanding EDA video to send to Jewel so there isn't going to be any video. I think that's unfair to Brent who dished out quite a bit of $$$ to send his video to me overseas in Next Day Air in order to get it to me on time and now his video isn't going to be used. Anyway, just so I know I'm not going to do something stupid(no comments, please ;) are there going to be a limited amount of pre-signed poetry books at every MegaStore location and is the distibution of the pre-signed books going to be simular to the New York poetry reading(pay $15 for a card that is to get a signed book)?
