NJC: "Silver Lining" video!!! First, the Jewel content: VH1 is showing a video for "Water is Wide", with Jewel, Sarah M., and the Indigo Girls. What it is is the footage of the song from the Lillith Fair special, I think (I only caught the end of it), but it is still kewel. Now, for what I am really excited about: Okay, I've been staying up late all week in order to watch Crossroads in order to try and catch Steve Poltz's video for "Silver Lining", but I up until tonight (this morning). Of course, now, when I am at my parents' house, and away from my VCR, it is on! Anyways, I come in and turn on VH1 to have some background music while emailing, and lo and behold, I see and hear Jewel (and Sarah and the Indigo Girls) singing, and that made my day (plus the fact that Jewel was in the Rolling Stone that I got today, and I found a copy of the Morning Song single in my local record store). Then, after a commercial break, I hear the familiar, unmistakable opening to "Silver Lining". So I'm like [censored for younger readers] "Holy BLEEP! No BLEEPen way!!". Anyways, I noticed some interesting things (possibly symbols, or possibly I'm just over-analyzing), so if anyone else has seen the video and wants to discuss it, email me. If you didn't catch it, usually (during the week at least) VH1 shows the same Crossroads show the next day at 8 am central (9 am eastern), but I checked their sched on the website, and it wasn't listed again until 2 am CDT (3 am EDT). I don't know if it will be the same show or not. Well, if it is, then WiW and SL are the last two videos, started approximately :15 and :20 past the hour. Now, hopefully I will be able to tape one or both videos. and hey, have a great day, everyday!!! If you did not get your greeting in the card by last night, and you still want it in (through email - not snail mail) you might have another chance. You can send your greetings to me at sharonp@leyada.jlm.k12.il (not this address) and I'll put in on a web page Jennie might be able to check. I'm not promising anything, but it might work. Sharon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 May 1998 08:01:24 EDT From: PENNY16161 Subject: Lilith CD - the final thought I know that this "thread" ended a while ago, but I just found this article online and it says exactly why Jewel only has 1 verse on the entire double cd. Here is the article (from E! online): Various Artists Lilith Fair: A Celebration of Women in Music In compiling this souvenir of the last year's Lilith Fair tour, Sarah McLachlan cut herself a pretty tall order. Since one of Lilith's aims was to "bring attention to lesser known and emerging artists," the idea here was to create a two-disc set that concentrated on the undercard at the expense of the headliners. So, no Jewel (except for one verse on the Indigo Girls' "Water Is Wide," no Sheryl Crow, no Tracy Chapman (which is a real shame because her set was one of the tour's revelations) and only one song apiece from McLachlan, Joan Osborne, Paula Cole and Shawn Colvin. But for those willing to take a chance on new music, there are some worthy performances, including Wild Strawberries raucous "I Don't Want to Think About It," Victoria Williams' pensive "Periwinkle Sky" and Autour de Lucie's elegantly rocking "Sur Tes Pas." I hope this ends all discontent and disagreement as to why Sarah didn't put Jewel on the cd. That's all for now. Bye. I know that Steve Poltz's album was due out in March and I was wondering if there was any discussion about it on this list, if people had bought and liked it etc. Any info would be appreciated. Bye Diana, the ever-seaching angel. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 May 1998 11:46:04 -0500 From: Timothy Banic Subject: Re: JC: "Water is Wide" video! NJC: "Silver Lining" video!!! Hello EDA's, I'm a new member to this list and this is my first post. I just thought I'd pass this little story on to you. It's a testament to how our little Amazing Alaskan has infected our subconciousness. Tuesday or Wednesday night (not sure which): I'm reading my e-mail and someone posts about the Wizard of Oz movie being replayed on Friday night at 6:00. I'm thrilled because I've been wanting a tape of this concert ever since I heard about it and also because I missed the showing of it on Sunday the 3rd. I leave myself a note to tape the show Friday night. Thursday night: I'm not sure if I will get home from work on time so I set the timer on the VCR. Friday at work, 5:00: I'm walking out the door and the boss stops me for a little chit-chat. He ALWAYS does this. I'm tapping my feet nervously, dying to get home. Friday at home, 5:50: I make it in plenty of time. Even though I had the recorder set I still wanted to be home, just to make sure... 6:00: VH1 begins playing Billy Joel Behind the Scenes show. What the @#$& is this! Depression sets in. I watch VH1 for the next 3 hours or so hoping it will be played. It isn't. 9:30: Lying in bed with the TV on (VH1 of course, still hoping). I dose off. Sometime late Friday evening, early Sat morning: I wake up. I'm in that half-concious state, still wondering what time it is, where am I, why is the TV on, etc... when I see a blonde haired girl singing with some other women (my contacts still haven't quite cleared up yet) Guess who it is! You know who. It's Jewel with Sarah & the Indigo Girls at the Lilith fair. After watching for about 30 seconds I remember to jump up and start the VCR. Except there's only about 30 seconds left. Oh well, sometimes it be that way. After it's over, I'm sitting there, still amazed that her voice woke me up. Wow! Then, to top it off, I hear a familiar tune coming on shortly after and it's Steve Poltz in his Silver Lining video. Way too cool! That's the story - a great ending to a bad beginning. Take care all.
