My name is Jason Greshes and I run the Paula Cole (harbinger) list here on smoe.org. After talking with Jeff Wasilko and us agreeing that there's been a lot of duplication of posts and info concerning Lilith Fair on many different lists, we've decided to create one list where people can discuss Lilith Fair, ask questions concerning venues, prices, vendors, hooking up at Lilith Fair, asking for directions to various fairs, posting updates concerning dates and artists performing, discussing products available at Lilith Fair, etc. etc. Basically, your one-stop Lilith Fair info and discussion shop. - --------------------- Announcing lilith-fair-fans, a email list devoted to Lilith Fair '98. Topics include venue information, ticket sale days and prices, meeting at Lilith Fair, vendors, artist confirmations, etc. etc. Your one-stop Lilith-Fair info and discussion center. To subscribe, email to lilith-fair-fans-request@smoe.org with: subscribe as the body of your email, or if you prefer the digest version send subscribe to lilith-fair-fans-digest-request@smoe.org When you subscribe you will receive a long file giving all the dates and venue information so far. If it's all right for me to ask, was that Atlantic's choice or Jewel's or a combination (or is that none of my business)>> Hi Mike, POY was released in Feb of 1995. It's been a long time though. Initially, it was Atlantic's idea to postpone the release of her virtually finished 1996 2nd album, because at the time, POY was just beginning to really take off. It made sense at the time & was basically the only thing to do from a business standpoint. Now, Jewel has little interest in releasing a new album of THAT material because it no longer represents where she is. Releasing or touring to support an album of "old material" isn't very appealing, is it? So, after the movie is done, she's going to go back in the studio & begin recording a great second album that can utilize some of the incredible material she's written since then. It'll be far more interesting for Jewel & inspire her to want to tour again, quite likely. Paz died this past Sunday. "It is an irreparable loss for contemporary thought and culture, not only for Latin America but for the whole world," Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo. In the past few months I'd gone through several volumes of his and Pablo Neruda's poetry. To be honest I'm not really sure what to say. In reading his work, and knowing he was a live was like being in the time of the surrealists, to have known that somewhere that Dali or Miro were painting a picture was to see the world with a bit more colour. It was very much like that with Paz, to know he was writing somewhere on _my_ planet; well it just made the world a great deal more interesting place is all... Sorry to have to post this to this list, but I'm not on the project list, and some others not on the project list might like to think about this. I'm not even sure if someone has already posted something along this line... I'm also on the Indigo Girls mailing list, and Amy's birthday just passed this month. For her birthday, many list members contributed and raised money to donate to a charity that Amy supports. We may want to think about doing this for Jewel, getting money together and donating it to a charity of her choice, one she supports. It's something to think about. This came straight from the song book, but doesn't sound right. Anyway, the timing is as close to the original timing as I could make it. It uses actual instruments to play MIDIs, so instead of everything sounding like pipes, it sounds more like the real thing. : ) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Apr 1998 21:23:00 -0500 From: Tanner Evans Subject: Jewel Chat: New Scheduled Time EDAs, This is my second post reguarding the new scheduled time for the Jewel chat room, my first post brought in a few people, but I want more people to join us. If you can help Lauren get from PA to MA e-mail her at bond@bucknell.edu. We will have dinner and some dessert. If anyone wants to bring anything to add your more than welcome to. Steve G. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Apr 1998 23:22:36 -0500 (EST) From: Susan Elizabeth Skolak Subject: Re: what Satellite means Hi everyone!! I am new to the list and its my first time posting. I am mainly writing in response to the the question about what the song Satellite means. I have a feeling it may get a little lengthy :( bear with me...please? Sooooo...here it goes!!!!!! Since Jewel says that she wrote Satellite after her first visit to Hollywood, I thought that the 'white wall we can't see over now' is the big HOLLYWOOD sign, which would basically represent the modern American's obssesion with materialism and technology (materialism including physical beauty and the sorts). I think the basic message behind the song is that we are so set on improving the quality of life through technology that we forget to look within ourselves to improve the quality of and give meaning to our own lives. It seems to me the more technologically advanced our society becomes the more we are all becoming lost souls. (Maybe someday we will reach a kind of plateau and then concentrate our efforts on becoming more spiritually advanced (?)) Mistakes are allowed if you are a satallite because technology is new and ever-improving. But mistakes for humans? C'mon we have been here long enough to be perfect, right? I mean we haven't made any mistakes since we've evolved and become civilized. (hee hee --that's a joke) I think there is a definite pressure on all to be somewhat perfect (or at least it seems everyone is assumed to be and if you weren't born perfect you are a lost cause). It's a kind of arrogance I think. Ya know, the whole thing about thing with humans at the top of the food chain, being the most intelligent and all...(I wonder about that being the most intelligent thing though...you wouldn't believe some of the things my dog has done). Anyway, I think the whole thing is kind of ironic though. Technology, which is supposed to improve the quality of life, in a way makes us a little bit lazier with each advancement so that we begin to depend on it which, in turn, makes us stray even further from nature and our innerselves, thus, decreasing the real quality of life, thus, eventually being the object of it's own demise. So anyway! Those are my thoughts. Feel free to respond to me personally, I'd like to know what you think. I am always open to questions or opinions that challenge my own! Susan (I don't have and angel name yet...what do you think of 'walks into walls'? Hmmmm....NAH!) - ---------- Ooooo! One more thing!!!!: (It really is truly amazing how one can find the answers to any questions or problems just by looking within themselves and to nature. I always knew that it is a pretty common thing for people to look to nature to find answers, but I never really tried it myself until I heard Jewel mention it (I forget where). It really works!!!! So if you haven't tried it, TRY IT!!!!!!!!! and if you want to know what answers I got, I'd be happy to share!) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #234 ***************************
