Hi Everybody, I'm gonna stick in my 2 cents here: >When Jewel is asked about being on the Time Magazine she says that she thinks it's stupid to call her the gang. You know Jewel and the gang. Anyways she goes on to say, "i think it's stupid to call us a gang...Was Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam ever referred to as a gang?"< Actually, I think Time stuck "Jewel and the Gang" on the cover as a sort-of spin off "Cool and the Gang". Thats the way, uh hu uh hu, I like it ,uh hu uh hu!! :-) Another little marketing epiphany about why the movie title got changed. "To Live On" doesn't sound too appealing, eh? "Dancing With The Devil" Now this sounds catchy!! Flash a couple snips from the movie, one or two w/ Jewel-for the obvious reasons- and people will go "hey, isn't that that Alaskan [woman]? Shes in a movie about the Devil?" (please, no Bevis and Butthead immitations) Thats it for now. GpA -- Guitar playin Angel Alex ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 03:49:07 EDT From: Salinger99 Subject: Lilith Fair this year Hi, all. I'm kind of bummed that Jewel and Fiona aren't joining back up this year and that when the fair rolls by where I live neither Paula nor Meredith will be performing (which detracts from my interest in the fair by about 80-95%), but at least there'll always be Sarah, and Natalie Merchant and Heather Nova will be performing. Sorry to sound so depressing, and of course I'm not trying to insult the other performers, it's just that basically Jewel, Sarah, Fiona, Paula, and Meredith comprise my favorite singers of all time, and when you take away 4/5 of them, the fair loses its luster a bit. And of course, Sheryl won't be there, either, when Lilith comes here, so that just makes it even worse. The absolute only reason I'm attending this year is because Sarah, herself, will be there. Again, I'm not trying to insult the other performers on the bill, it's just that it's really dissapointing, and I don't believe (at least for the performance near me) that the fair will be even half as good as it would have been if I had gone last year. I mean, it isn't even like one or two of the artists I was hoping for are missing. Basically, it's all but one. If it weren't for Natalie and Heather showing up, in my mind, it'd be a Sarah concert. Oh, and before you fire back at me, praising some of the other artists on the bill, remember that I'm basing this opinion solely on the presence of the 5 aforementioned performers (Jewel, Sarah, Meredith, Fiona, Paula). Thanks. - -Salinger99, The Philosopher Angel P.S. I'm really sorry to sound so depressing and critical, especially when a concert benifiting such good causes is involved, and that had so much effort and heart put into it. I really don't want to bring anybody down or get anyone argumentative over this post, I just wanted to voice my opinion on the subject. Thanks. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 17 Apr 1998 15:49:19 +0200 From: "A.J.Th. Well, isn't this interesting? I just posted yesterday. My question is regarding a live Jewel show I recorded from the radio (Radio Jordan, in case anyone is wondering). I have no idea which show it is, so I was womdering if anyone knows on which show did Jewel say "Shut up, I'm about to start singing."? This was before singing Amen, which was the last song. Thanks, Sharon ------------------------------ Date: 17 Apr 98 06:44:02 -0700 From: "Todd Safra" Subject: SJC: About those hot dogs Well as far as some of the reference that Jewel makes about hot dogs, I think this a direct effect of (ok, cover your ears...) STEVE POLTZ. Steve seems to work hot dogs to his songs/act/life quite a bit (Dennis even brought him one at the Belmar show...) I'd also add reference to poached eggs as another influence... As Jewel has said herself many times, Steve really influenced her writing and technique, and you can be sure she watched Steve talk, eat, etc. with hotdogs. PLEASE TELL ME SHE'LL STOP, this is hurting me >> Whats wrong with a dance mix or a remix of a song? Sure its gonna sound crappy(I admit not all mixes aren't crappy, some are good), sure isn't not gonna sound like a Jewel song but hey, what else is Atlantic going to do? They missed the boat(BTW-yesterday was the anniversary of the Titanic accident, coincidentally Im sticking boat, and Atlantic near each other-if you didn't get the stupid joke, it was on my behalf) AND so Atlantic knows that they have another big seller and want to keep squeezing the life out of a debute album as much as they can. Jannet Jackson has been very well established in where she fits-wherever that is-in the industry. You shouldn't compare the two artists, they're music is what makes them unique. Let Janet make her 50 different versions of her latest single, the record company shes with knows that people will go buy those 50 versions. Geez, Major record companies think they know what they're doing but they don't 70% of the time. Roughly, 10% of bands/artists that sign to a big label make it big in the industry. Thats pretty sad. My birthday is on May 24th, (Pretty close, huh?) and I too have a weird little toe. I have loved Jewel ever since I first saw her and heard her music, which was the first time I saw Who Will Save Your Souls? on VH1. I have a slight problem...I NEED ANGELFOOD! All of the Jewel music I have is POY and the VH1 cd with Foolish Games. I've looked up Jewel everywhere I go, and all I can find is POY and the YWMFM and FG singles. Where can I go to get more? Me and a couple other sites have teamed up together and have our chat rooms connected to each other. We desided to start a daily meeting time in the chat room for everyone, so I put up a quick poll on my page asking everyone what would be the best time to chat. I had a lot of replies, but the most favored one was from 9:00PM to 10:00PM CST. Below is the schedule for the different time zones in the United States: Atlantic Time Zone 10:00PM to 11:00PM Central Time Zone 9:00PM to 10:00PM Mountain Time Zone 8:00PM to 9:00PM Pacific Time Zone 7:00PM to 8:00PM Here are three main sites that host this chat room: Impala- http://www.geocities.com/~kilcher/ God's Gift To Alaska- http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Backstage/9849/ Planet Jewel- http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/1023/ Also, one last thing. Anyone with a Jewel site is welcome to copy the HTML code of the chat room and post the chat room on their site. But if you do, please contact the owner of the chat room you got the code from and tell them you did so. Thank you everyone and hope to meet you in the chat room sometime! It is -only- the harp part. I did the MIDI in harp. If you want it different, just ask, and I'll change it for you. : ) I have yet to do the vocal part, and need help on deciding what MIDI output instrument should represent Jewel's voice. Any suggestions? : ) Um..I'm still collecting EDA Poetry too! Send your poems away! A note about the MIDI: You can use it on your webpage, of Course! : D If you wish to have a different instrument, as stated above, just ask. I'm not sure about Copyright info...Some of it is in the MIDI. I believe that you may have to put on the page with the MIDI the following: © 1995 WB MUSIC CORP. and WIGGLY TOOTH MUSIC This Arrangement © 1996 WB MUSIC CORP. and WIGGLY TOOTH MUSIC All Rights Adminitered by WB MUSIC CORP. All Rights Reserved I'm not positive about having to put all of that. Perhaps in a hidden comment <--! --> I believe is the HTML Tagline you may wish to include it in. Anyway, Enjoy the MIDI everyone. There is something I wanted to put in here, but forgot what it was. Spect anudder message from me sooner er later.
