First of all, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Sharon, I'm 17 and I live in Jerusalem (which would be a good place to ask all Israeli EDAs (other than Mike) to email me please). OK, that was the intro. Now for the begging. Since I live in Israel angelfood is hard to come by. However, my dad will be in the US next week. I was wondering if someone would be an angel and be willing to make some angelfood for me (anything) and mail it really quickly. I will reimburse you for the tapes later. Another thing, a few weeks ago Jewel was featured in In Concert in Radio Jordan. Does anyone know which show that was? Something I know about: >I have the guitar tabs for several of jewel's songs but I'm a little confused< Aren't we all. > When Jewel plays the chords, she presses the frets correctly(BTW-whats incorrect?) but then plays only on or two strings at a time< One string that is played in a chord is a note. Sure you can play the whole chord by strumming all the strings, sometimes it just doesn't fit with the mood. >Also, if anyone has the songs in regular-note format, can you please post them here?< Im guessing here what regular-note format is and your probably talking about Treble and Bass Cleif(too bad I can't spell this word right now). That is music NOT tablature. Music has notes, key and time signatures. Tablature is an easy way to figure out where you stick your fingers on what fret-only applicable for string instruments. >I really want to play WWSYS and I'm really desperate! Thanks in advance!< There is a Guitar/Vocal(though I've heard of a phantom Piano) book of POY thats been out awhile and it has all the songs from the album. Its gonna be about $20 U.S. dollars, give or take a couple cause of taxes. >Can a guitar-playing angel help me?< LOL :) Here I come to save the day.... (= If you have the "Pieces Of You" songbook, the tablature is incorrect for some parts on that song, I found that out after much frustration trying to get it to sound like Jewel's recording. Let me explain how to tune first. You know how to tune the traditional "5th fret" way--that's good, I won't have to explain that. It's basically the same process but you move to different frets and tune the strings to those pitches. I hope I explain this so you understand---it can be kind of confusing to explain this subject!! O.K., I guess the first thing to do would be to make sure you match Jewel's guitar pitch for "Near You Always". The easiest way would be to play the song and tune the high "E" string first (we're talking the thinnest string, we're going to tune from thinnest to thickest--working up). The 2nd note she plays will be the high "E" string "open"---once you tune that string to her pitch you'll be ready to tune the rest: The next string up, the "B" string, fret it on the 3rd fret and tune it until it sounds the same as the 1st string (high E) open. The next ("G" string), fret it on the 5th fret and tune it until it sounds the same as the 2nd string open. The next ("D" string), fret it on the 4th fret and tune it until it sounds the same as the 3rd string open. The next ("A" string), fret it on the 5th fret and tune it until it sounds the same as the 4th string open. The last string to tune ("E"--the thickest one), fret it on the 7th fret and tune it until it sounds the same as the 5th string open. - ----------That's all there is to it----pretty easy eh?! I'll go ahead and give ya the tablature for the main melody: thin "E": - -----0-------------0-------------0----------------0---------------0--------- - --------0----------------0--- "B": - -3------3------2-----2------0-------0--------------------------------------- - ----------------------------- "G": - ----------------------------------------------3--------0-------5-------5---- - ----4-------4--------3------- "D": - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - ------------------------------- "A": - -5---------5---4--------4---2-----------2---0------------------------------- - ----------------------------- thick"E": - ------------------------------------------------------------0---5----------- - -5---5------------5---4------ * * * * * * * thin "E": - ----------------0----------------0------------------0--------------0-----0-- - ----------------------------- "B": - --------------------------------------------------------------------0------- - --0--------------------------- "G": - --3---------2------2--------1-------1---------1--------1--------- 0-------------0---- <5>-------------- "D": - --------------------------------------------------------------------0------- - ------------<5>-------------- "A": - --------------------------------------------------------------------0------- - ------------<5>-------------- thick"E": - ------4-----3----------3----2------------2----2--------------0----0--------- - ----------<5>-------------- * * * * * The symbol * means that you need to play both/all notes at the same time. The <5> means a "natural harmonic" is played, I'm sure you know what that is but just in case----you position your finger DIRECTLY over the "fret wire" and lightly rest the finger on the strings (don't push down), and strum the strings indicated----you can release your fingers off the strings once you get the "chime" sounds of the natural harmonics----you may need to practice until you get a good harmonic sound. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me---I love to help out other guitarists. The song will probably be hard at first, but keep working at it, after awhile you'll be able to play it without looking. Take care and good luck!! In some tape I have, Jewel says she alwyas flares her nose when she tunes her guitar, but I never noticed it. So I scrutinized every video I have and didn't see it once.....has anyone else noticed this? 2. I was watching Pop Up Video and in it, it says that she went to an art school in some random state when she was 16. But she never mentions it. All I have heard was that after she was born, she went to Alaska, then Hawaii, then San Diego. But nothing else. My cousin spent the entire last summer there at a dance camp and saw the statue of Jewel's that they still have on display. She said it was incredible. At Interlochen, Jewel studied opera, then guitar... and in her spare time, modeled. While on her breaks during her modeling "job", she would write songs. I don't read all the list posts, but apparently someone on the Jewel lists was in there last week & saw it on display. I'm not calling "this EDA" a liar, because it's certainly possible that the Hard Rock has a replica or even possibly got hosed by someone selling them a fake. I don't know.... What I do know, for a fact, is that it is sitting in Jewel's music room RIGHT NOW in its custom case. I'd appreciate it if whoever saw this in Philadelphia could take another look for us. Look at the guitar closely. Jewel's blue guitar is highly personalized in the neck inlay. It has a cowboy hat, horse, stars and planets and numerous other things up the neck. At the top is a scroll with some words in German. I bet the Hard Rock Cafe display is simply a replica & NOT Jewel's guitar. Also, if someone would be so kind to check on this, please do us a favor & find out the following info for us: 1)Hard Rock Cafe's phone # in Philly 2)Manager's name 3)Exact wording on the ID tag 4)What (if any) inlays are on the neck Seems like we have a real mystery on our hands! :-) MrBB ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #210 ***************************
