Hey, all! This is my first post, though I've been subscribed for a while now. I couldn't resist answering this question... I guess I'm a bit behind, cuz I've never heard the drug bust story, but I like the one where she's talking about her dad yodeling, and she does this hilarious imitation of him, and talks about him losing his hair, and wagging his head so that the hair he has left goes off like windshield wipers... it was REALLY funny- I crack up every time I hear it! :) stacey- no nickname yet :( ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Apr 1998 02:03:42 -0400 (EDT) From: "Stacey Rae Rowland" Subject: Jewel on Lilith CD Okay. There seems to be much debate about why Jewel is not featured on the Lilith Fair CD compilation. From what I've read, theories all seem to revolve around Sarah not WANTING to put her on, whether for simple jealousy or something having to do with being "mainstream." Maybe it's jsut me, but neither of these seems very logical. My guess would be that Sarah could not get permission from Atlantic to put her on. She DOES need them to sign off on it, and if they don't, she can't put Jewel on... Anyway, that was just my theory. Of course, I'd like to THINK that Sarah wasn't jealous :) stacey ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Apr 1998 01:09:31 EDT From: JewelWN2BE Subject: Jewel's remake of "You Make Lovin' Fun" off Rumors - Tribute to Fleetwood Mac Sender: owner-jewel@smoe.org Precedence: bulk Hello all! I found these lyrics and thought maybe you'd like to take a look at them. Jewel sings "You Make Lovin' Fun" on the new "Rumors - Tribute to Fleetwood Mac" album. Its very good! "You Make Lovin' Fun" Sweet wonderful you, You make me happy with the things you do, Oh, can it be so, This feeling follows me wherever I go. I never did believe in miracles, But I've a feeling it's time to try. I never did believe in the ways of magic, But I'm beginning to wonder why. Don't, don't break the spell, It would be different and you know it will, You, you make loving fun, And I don't have to tell you you're the only one. You make loving fun. The one were she tells of the two blue-haired ladies who commented on how a nice enough looking girl like Jewel could stoop to washing up in the Denny's restroom. At the end of the story she usually says something like "so, for those two blue-haired ladies - I have Gold album now. So f*** you!." This is usually accompanied giving the double finger. I like this story because Jewel found it embarassing to tell after a while. I think she says "this is the embarassing part" on the John Anson Ford tape befor the story. She eventually eliminated it fron the act. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a funny story and shows an important period of her development. But, when she dropped it, that showed increased sensitivity and maturity. It's good when artists grow. :) Chopped Liver (Charlie) watkins@selway.umt.edu Share publicly, flame privately, " 'Cause anyone can start a conflict it's harder yet to disregard it ". ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Apr 1998 11:37:20 -0500 From: gosiam@juno.com Subject: Fastball Song hi, yeah, ok, in the beginning it has this one part where Jewel(mayb, who for sure?) sounds something like "noticed", er whatever, i dunno, but we (or some of us.) can go to Fastball sites, and e-mail their official fc, and mayb we'll find out for sure..just a suggestion ):) * margaret * hyper * angel * ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Apr 1998 11:37:20 -0500 From: gosiam@juno.com Subject: Fastball Song hi, yeah, ok, in the beginning it has this one part where Jewel(mayb, who for sure?) sounds something like "noticed", er whatever, i dunno, but we (or some of us.) can go to Fastball sites, and e-mail their official fc, and mayb we'll find out for sure..just a suggestion ):) * margaret * hyper * angel * ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 8 Apr 1998 12:59:30 EDT From: NiKoS 12 Subject: Shiva Diva Doo WOp.... Hey EDA's, Well, I'm on the search again for more angelfood, but I don't know which one to get! There's so many different choices out there, that it's hard to pick just one/two. So, I'd like to ask all you EDA's out there for your suggestions on which piece of angelfood is your favourite. I'm mainly looking for songs that aren't on POY. I already have Rare Angels '95 and Jewel Rocks the Paradise, so you can count those out. I'm only interested in your suggestions and I'm not going to bug you to copy them for me (if you do email me), but if you're willing to, then that'd be great. I'd prefer a Canadian EDA, since I live in Canada and that'd be cheaper for me. Thanks again you guys! Just a little interesting (perhaps not for some) factoid >to mull over. Hey that was cool! You wanna know what I did after reading this? (u don't have to read all this, blah blah:) I placed POY in my CD-R and converted that song into a wave file. Then I opened it in a program called CoolEdit and started off playing that beepy part. (couldn't hear that BEEP without wearing headphones cuz the birds were singing so loud outside my window~) And there it was BEEP BEEP *woo*. So I marked that area and tried to figure out the frequency of that beep (i'm NoT a musician)so I thought forget about it! Instead I started off with trying different FFT-filters to find that freq. (FFT is kinda narrow software controlled filter), and found one setting that made the beeps sound a lot clearer and with less background. Then I started another 'Spectrogram'-program and analyzed that file and now I could find a clear dotted line representing that beeping sound, so I read out that frequency and went back to CoolEdit and made one narrow-'Notch'-filter for that particular frequency (and some spurious one's). WoW, now it's all gone!! (and still in CD-quality). Hey I'm NoT a sound perfectionist! I just thought this was a funny thing to do. (I have more details on this study if some1's interested..) ~I also found out that the BEEP was slightly louder in da Right-channel. I was thinking to my self... is she wearing her watch on the right hand?! =:D I have some questions too: 1.) Does anybody know where I can find that really kewl song 'I've Got The Blues More Than You Do...Blues' on tape, or RealAudio (fastfood :) or something like that? (preferably near tape quality) I'm waiting for some angelfood to drop into my mailbox, so I guess it could be on there too... 2.) I'm Fading - what's that song about really? I was just thinking... 3.) How about Jewel airings on VH-1 and MTV in Europe? I'm watching VH-1 only occasionally. I've been searchin for VH1's homepage in europe, but found only MTV and that one sucks, doesn't it? www.mtv.co.uk Think it would be a good thing to make some email requests for Jewel in europe too, don't you think? 4.) Hey I'm looking for other EdA friends in Sweden for angelfood trades etc. please let me know!! Thanks for listening to all this stuff anyway. What I think about this: Even if Sarah was jealous, if she had put Jewel on the Cd, and more people bought the Cd knowing Jewel was on it, more people would listen to Sarah sing and most likely helped her grow more popualar, so it would really help BOTH of them if Sarah had put Jewel on the Cd! And she says her dad has that promble and she said it looks like windsheild wipers and then she goes off the subject and says something about wipeing the table and you get to the corner with all the crud in your hand and you hit a peice of cheese and nothing will get the smears out it is a very funny story. Second I have a question on that list of days when Steve Poltz was touring that was sent to the list there was a show on April 11th at the Java Hut does anybody know anything about that show? I might be going if I can get more info about it. So please if anyone knows anything about it e-mail me.
