Hi angels! I love this thread! I would have to say that my all time favourite story that she tells...well, I have two! 1) Sometimes it be that way- When she opened up for Bob Dylan, he caught part of her set, and after the show he asked her the words to the "I'm Sorry Song". Jewel said "Oh, you mean 'Sometimes it be that way'?". He wanted her to tell him the words to the song and this was Jewels' response: "words? I don't write words.." She couldn't remember the words, so she says in that sweet little girl voice..."they're...uh...no wait!...uh...oh! they're...uh........" Then she says "so bob, if you're ever listening again, here they are!" She is sooooooo cute!:-) 2) You gotta love her model convention story....for those newbies out there who've never heard it, she sang "Pieces of You" at a model convention, but they just didn't get it! They thought she was just being racist/prejudised. The sad thing is that if they had only listened they would've seen that the song speaks AGAINST racism. The New York Times even called her racist.:-( I think she tells this story best on Intimate & Interactive. Then you get to see her facial expressions!!!:-) That's it for me!!!:-) Great thread! It seems that the more Steve thinks he's bombing, the better he gets. After a rocky start with Steve coughing between verses (some vino cleared that up), he continued to play, improvise and generally have the whole crowd dying with laughter. After 24 (almost consecutive) days of touring, he seems to be "Self- destructing" as he put it as far as putting on shows that aren't totally demented. That's good news for us who appreciate Steve's, shall we say "uniqueness". Some highlights of the show were a larger number of rugburns song and the ABC's of love. Also a totally improv song called Sex, Drugs, and Guitars featuring members of the audience on stage was incredible. Steve commented that we should all ask for our money back, break up all of the tables and chairs, and they probably wouldn't allow him back next week. For those of you making it to the last Tin Angel show on the 13th, bring your seat-belts baby! She said she was at a model show and looking at all these skinny anorexic-looking girls and how she sung Pieces of You to make a statement about so-called beauty. I also like the one she told before "Daddy" and how it goes out to her friend and its about that friends racist dad and how he made her friend shut off the Cosby Show while she was over because they were black. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Apr 1998 14:33:57 -0400 From: Bonnie McManaman Subject: Jewel's watch invasion in "Painters?" Hi EDAs!, I haven't posted for a really long time...blah blah blah. Anyway, I was walking around the University of MD campus today, listening to POY. When it got to "Painters," I heard this beep beep sound. I was like, woah, maybe my portable discman has a built-in clock or something- nope! I got home and cranked up the sound....BEEP BEEP! Check it out. It is at 5:51 (according to my timer) at the end of "Painters." I think it comes right after she says, "And maybe just his smile." Maybe Jewel forgot to turn off the alarm on her watch while she was recording. It's such a pristine recording job that it could be possible for that to have been her watch! Isn't that wacky? Just a little interesting (perhaps not for some) factoid to mull over. What a great song! Well, everyone have a great week! Musical EdA, Bonnie ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 7 Apr 1998 15:03:32, -0500 From: HCCZ70D@prodigy.com ( SARAH MERRITT) Subject: Favorite Jewel Story Hello Angels, I actually have a few favorite stories... 1) For anyone who only knows Jewel from tv appearances, the story before 1,000 Miles Away on Hard Rock Live was funny...she talked about the book "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" and how there was something wrong with her car because there must have been something wrong with her. 2) YWMFM pot bust story-- although I've only heard it seconhand 3) Bob Dylan/SIBTW story-- she said she wrote the song after listening to a bunch of Dylan-- he had used the word "electricity" in one song. When she wrote SIBTW, she added the line "electricity chases its tail in the hall" and said she always felt like she was stealing the line from him. When she toured with him, he asked her about it, specifically about that line-- she said she felt very dumb. 4)Nicotine Love story-- weird, if no one ever heard it. Jewel saw a tv documentary about a woman who had been raped. Then she got into relationships with the same type of men as the one who had raped her-- and then she would kill them...eerie. Anyway...maybe I have too many favorites. I just like ALL OF THE STORIES!! The pictures are pretty cool. Secondly and above all! They mentioned Jewel a few times (as follows): "The new live album, twenty-four tracks on two CDs, showcases many of them: Suzanne Vega, Meridith Brooks, the Cardigans, Jewel, the Indigo Girls." Does this mean Jewel will be on the CDs? "The hype hit its apex when McLachlan appeared on the cover of TIME magazine in Canada, although in the U.S., the cover photo looked suspiciously like that of an Alaskan folk singer and featured the cover line JEWEL AND THE GANG. "'I was a bit pissed off, but, unfortunately, politically it made perfect sense,' says McLachlan of the cover. 'Time Warner owns TIME magazine; Time warner owns Jewel's record label. There you go." Hmmm. Well there's some Jewel news for the moment. Enjoy the contemplation!!
