Originally, I thought she meant this song was her God's gift to women, but now I see that she is saying all these guy's think they are God's gift to women and when they flash on her and try to turn her on by being idiots, they are her own private God's gift to women. Way to go, Jewel...now, go sing this song at your concert when guy's shout obsensities to you (Although the "stupid boy, stupid boy" thing was good). Speaking of which, I'm in a play right now and I was talking about Jewel to this girl and she was like "Oh, I don't like her. I have her album and there's a song on it called 'Daddy' and it was very sick. My mom heard it and she won't let me play the album anymore." I explained about how it wasn't about her father but it was about a father who was racist and raised his children that way. Then I told her the first verse of "God's Gift To Women" and explained what it was about. She was only in the 7th grade, although she looked 16, so this was all sort of shocking to her and she heard all of Jewel's song superficially. About the New York Times thing, where they called her homophobic, perhaps the writer was gay and was shocked to hear her say "faggot". Feeling branded out by her, he didn't listen to what she was saying, just that word. I was watching E! a few weeks ago, and some guy was complaining on and on about this movie. It was obvious he was gay by how he talked, and he finally ends with "It also had a lot of gay jokes, which I think are just stupid". Sometimes when we feel offended, we start to dislike something before we understand it. Anyway, Jewel still rocks, so whatever... I would like to know if it is still possible to get a copy of the Jewelstock tapes? If so, how??? I would love to have these. One other comment. Anyone who has not yet bought Steve Poltz album "one Left Shoe"....WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? This is one of the best albums I have ever bought. (plus the cd was only $11.99 at Harmony House). Go buy this now!!!! I was so happy someone picked her, 2 out of 12 to be exact. That's all for now, Moonlight Angel --- ERGambit@aol.com P.S. I live in Corpus Christi TX, and down here we DON'T call it 'South Padre Island' we just call it 'Padre Island', I had to say that because it was really ticking me off that MTV called it 'South Padre Island.' ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Mar 1998 20:42:16 EST From: Num1JwlFan Subject: NJC: Steve Poltz I know some of you guys don't like posts about Steve Poltz, so I'll make this quick. I went to Java in Royal Oak to see him, which was a great show, and I was wondering if any EDA's(perhaps the guy w/the blue EDA shirt?) wrote down the order of the songs? If you do, email them to me please! Thanks. - -Jenny ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Mar 1998 21:20:15 EST From: MAXMOUZE Subject: Re: God's Gift To Women title Everyone seems to have misunderstood what I was saying. I thought Jewel was being sarcastic and then when she said "My own private God's gift to women", she was talking about her sarcasm, about how mocking guys was her gift to women. But now I realize that it is not the SONG that is the gift to women, it is the man who thinks he's God's gift to women, and because he decides to put his moves on her, wow -- she's got her own little private God's gift to women. Lucky her. Mm__) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Mar 1998 21:54:09 -0500 From: "O'Neill" Subject: Fleetwood Mac's Rumors CD Hey Angels! I was just flipping through a Best Buy flyer, and it appears that the Rumors CD with "You Make Love Fun" (or is it "You Make Lovin' Fun"? I can never remember) by Jewel on it, is to be -finally- released, after being set back many times. It will be in Best Buy on March 24th, which is Tuesday, I think. Well, have a great evening! I just wanted to write a post about this song.. I know it's already been discussed a lot, but I just wanted to see if I could help explain it a tiny itty bitty bit better. I didn't understand the song at first and I was like... "What the heck is Jewel writing this song for???" But after I REALLY listened to it, i began to understand.... There's this guy I know...and he's really good looking and he knows it. And he thinks he can get away with ANYTHING because of it. So, you might say, he thinks that he's "God's gift to women". Now Jewel's basically saying...(sarcasticly) "Ohhh gee, I just LOVE it when you show me your tongue.... I'd just LOVE it for you to offer me a place to stay with pay...." etc...etc... So she's mocking all the creeps who think girls are ditzes and who think they can get away with being idiots and pervs. ((yay Jewel!! I applaud you!!)) <> She's just sooo cool!! hehe.
