Also, if someone could send a Java Joe's schedule for the month of April that would be grande. I'll pay for everything or we can set up something... This probably has been already posted but check out http://www.slammsd.com/current_issue/locals.only.html for these great featurettes: If you are waiting for Jewel’s next album (her debut came out in 1995, after all), you are going to be waiting for at least several months. Jewel has written some new songs and performed several during a show at Java Joe’s last month that was taped for ABC but the word is that she’s busy making a film. One way to get a hold of some new material is to subscribe to her mailing list over the internet. If you send mail to jewel-request@smoe.org and write "subscribe" in the body of the text, you’ll get information about how to receive a tape of the 1997 Thanksgiving show at Java Joe’s, where she played "Jessica" and "Lasciatemi Morirre." Also included on the tape are songs by locals Lisa Sanders, Mary Dolan, Elizabeth Hummel, Gregory Page and Cindy Lee Berryhill. The recording quality is excellent. You might also want to check out Legacy, a Fleetwood Mac tribute album which features various artists (Elton John, the Goo Goo Dolls and Grammy-winner Shawn Colvin) performing songs from the Mac’s classic album Rumors. Jewel does a version of "You Make Loving Fun" that’s actually an improvement on the original. The album will be in stores on March 17. [I guess the writer must be on the list (?)] Beck keyboardist Theo "Hounddog" Mondle has remixed Cindy Lee Berryhill’s "Radio Astronomy." Berryhill hopes to release the song to local radio stations…[I, for one, can't wait to hear this] ~ "Silver Lining" appears on a new Album Network Tune Up, In-store Edition #50. Other notable artists included on the 3-disc set are Natalie Imbruglia, Bran Van 3000, Ben Harper, The Verve, James Iha, Propellorheads, Peter Case, Johnny Winter, The Devlins, Bonnie Raitt, and 30+. It's a promo given to record retailers but you might find it in indie or small chain markets. ~ Recent Poltz collaborations I've heard are Cindy Lee's "This Way Up" and Elizabeth Hummel's "You Kept Me Distracted." Both songs are too good to be true. ~ Gregory Page will be opening for Adrian Legg (!) at Java Joe's on April 16. ... and that's the news. Hello all. I just wanted to add my $.02 about talking about Steve Poltz. I do not agree with some of you angels, sorry. I think we SHOULD be able to talk freely about Steve Poltz. Lots of time Steve Poltz news has SOMETHING (although maybe remotely) to do with Jewel... EXAMPLE: Because we talked about Steve and his new album, we also learned that Jewel is singing back up on a number of the songs. etc...etc...etc... Steve information IS most of the time Jewel related information so we should all gladly welcome it. AND for those of you who are looking for the Steve Poltz mailing list...(specifically) then on the back of his new CD it says to write to: Poltz@aol.com and in the subject line write: SUBSCRIBE. Hey. This is my 2nd post of the day. Wow. I have a question about a previous statement that Jewel was going to be on the Lilith Fair CD. I was looking at the LIlith Fair Site today and came across the article below on the CD. However, Jewel is not mentioned in the list of artists featured. Was this a mistake or is she not on the CD anymore? I would think that they would mention Jewel as opposed to some of the not-as-known singers that are mentioned. - -Rebecca The Angel With Butterfly Wings })i({ "Arista, Nettwerk Prepare to Release Lilith Fair Collection April 28 is the date slated for the release of the Lilith Fair compliation. One of my sporadic opinions! :-) Hi all, I've noticed quite a few posts lately where some listmembers are unsure of how Steve Poltz figures in to the content of this list. Please remember that I'm not flaming anyone for their opinion of what they enjoy reading here. Simply trying to enlighten EDAs unsure of Steve's significance. Steve is not just some songwriter with Jewel on his album. Not only is he the person with whom Jewel most often collaborates, he is the #1 biggest influence on Jewel's songwriting in general. It's a good (& very rewarding!) idea to be more open to other artists working out of San Diego, in general. You'll soon discover that many of these other artists are all connected in a very real way. Many (& especially Steve) often collaborate, influence & support each other to a very large extent. This "cross-pollination" is very special. There's great diversity amongst the San Diego songwriters, but theres also a continuity to all of them that most Jewel fans should easily appreciate. There's strong friendships between them all & a never ending support of each other that has impressed me from the minute I was taken in by this San Diego scene. So when you see posts about Steve Poltz, Lisa Sanders, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Elizabeth Hummel, Joy Eden Harrison, John Katcher, Frank Lee Drennen, Mary Dolan, Gregory Page & several others, PLEASE don't take it as "off topic" on this list. I know for a fact that Jewel herself would be the first person to say how important ALL these people are to her both musically & as friends. There's so much great music coming out of San Diego & anyone who closes their minds to "nothing but Jewel" is truly missing the boat! While you may not enjoy all of the people listed above, there is unquestionably a few that every single Jewel fan would most certainly enjoy. Turning each other on to great music is the main reason why many of us are here. To me, thats what its really all about. MrBB PS.
