They must love her. It is the newest issue with Ashley Judd on the cover (probably April). My brother has swiped it from me so I can't say the exact page that she is on, but I think it is somewhere around 84 or 86. It is a full body shot of her wearing a white top and jacket with black pants and shoes. Very nice picture, of course. She also has the funky braid thing with her hair going on. Also, very nice. Just thought you all would like to know. Take Care... Throughout the CD Steve has this ability(which I wish I could do in songwriting more often) to playful talk about love, life, and everything between. I love how all the accompanyment instruments(string section, Mighty Mighty Bosstones' horn section, slide guitar, etc.) fit with the songs. For all you people who went to the Hospitality Point 9.20.97 show and heard Steve play Impala, & I Thought I Saw You Last Night you'll like how they sound with Jewel accompaning back-up vocals. In Silver Linning, you can't hear Jewel much at all but in Impala and ITISYLN you can definatly hear Jewel clearly. Krikor's Waltz lives up to its name: weird and a waltz :-) My fav.s gotta be Silver Linning and Imapala. BTW -- I got the CD at Tower for only around $13.50(after CA tax) -- $11.99 retail price. Thats suprising cause Tower is notorious for having higher prices. Now I can finish figurin out a Silver Linning TAB. Greenfield" Subject: SJC: Steve Poltz and the EDAs: An Alert (kind of long) Hi, all! I was fortunate in being able to attend Steve Poltz's "kick-off" show for his "One Left Shoe" tour, at San Diego State University last night. The show was sublime; I've never seen Steve (solo) better. Although there was something like 2000 people there, it felt like a "family" show. Be sure to ask for Steve's "brand-new" song "Chinese Checkers," a lyric-less John Fahey-esque "soundtrack" to, well, a game of Chinese Checkers, as narrated by Polio Boy his own self, when the tour hits your local area. I won't go into great detail, as the show has been reported on elsewhere. (Cf. http://www.union-tribune.com/entertainment/music/980312w12upfron.html Check out http://home1.gte.net/ericj1/rugburns/ for a great Steve Poltz site and show information. The Rugburns mail list is located at , and it is largely a Poltz list for the moment, due to Steve's solo record and tour. Also, you can subscribe to a Poltz message list -- largely news only -- by sending an email to . The new record and tour is also described at the official Jewel site: http://www.jeweljk.com ). What I do want to do, however, is to give a status report on the upcoming Living Room Tour for Steve and the importance of the EDAs to the success of this. Bob Duffey, Steve's manager, asked me to pass along to all of us that Steve will begin scheduling Living Room Tour shows starting at the very end of April and the beginning of May, when he returns from the European leg of his tour. Initially, still will be touring along the west coast of the U.S. up into Vancouver, and the first LRT shows will be scheduled there. Nothing has been set yet, but as soon as anything is, we will be notified, so that plans for gatherings and attendance can be made. I believe that they have pretty much decided definitely to do at least one Toronto LRT show, and Dan Stark will have information on that for us as soon as arrangements begin. I also wanted to let everyone know that I had a really delightful conversation after the show last night with Ken Weinstein of Mercury Records, who is one of Steve's label's promotion and publicity executives. I learned from him that it was Ken and Bob Duffey who first came up with the idea to look to the EDAs for help with Steve's upcoming Living Room Tour. Ken was Jewel's promotion and publicity director at Atlantic Records, way back in the Innerchange days, when it seemed as though only lucky San Diegans and EDAs knew who Jewel was. Ken told me that it was the "grass roots" support of Jewel fans across the country, fueled by the "buzz" created by the EDAs, that helped Jewel to build up gradually to the kind of following she now has, and that the EDAs will be great for helping Steve get heard and enjoyed this way, too. I told him that I heartily agreed, as the Living Room Tour has helped to build a wide and growing following for such San Diego artists as Cindy Lee Berryhill, Elizabeth Hummel, Joy Eden Harrison, Gregory Page, and Lisa Sanders, among others. (By the way, Lisa will be opening for Steve on much of this tour, starting around April 1.) If anyone who has not already expressed an interest in hosting a Living Room Tour show wants to do so, please email me with your location and nearest large city, and I will forward the information to Steve's management. These shows will be great fun! Sorry for the excessive length of this, but it's an exciting thing, and it's something many of us will be able to be part of. These are the days!
