We tried to do an accurate transcription but couldn't decipher that second verse completely (same problem as all who've tried before us). Atz Kilcher (Jewel's dad) was kind enough to fill me in on that mysterious line today, so for the first time, here is the complete transcription for all you lyric collectors out there (below). By the way, Jewel's arrangement of "Chime Bells" actually incorporates two songs into one. The ending sequence (where Jewel yodels faster & faster) is not part of the original song at all. It's actually the end of a tune Atz sang in swedish called "The Swiss Alaskan Yodel". Atz taught Jewel to follow him on this particular song back when she was 6 years old. This became Jewel's earliest part of the dinner shows back when Atz & Lenedra performed around Alaska circa 1980-81. This "speed yodeling" sequence was later incorporated at the end of "Chime Bells" much to almost everyone's amazement. And finally.......the complete lyrics as promised. All the best, MrBB Chime Bells (y=yodeling) Up on a mountain so gay and so free.. There is a young man and he's waiting there for me Out on the lake, we'll drift with the tide And hear those chime bells ring Chime bells are ringing...y Mockingbirds are singing...y Hush, little lover...y Up on a summer's eve or eave... Moonbeams were shining as I kissed him there.(swack) Nightbirds were singing and perfume filled the air Each little star that twinkled above Was heaven that smiled on our love Chime bells are ringing...y Mockingbirds are singing...y Hush, little lover...y Up on a summer's eve... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Mar 1998 01:05:03 -0500 From: Miguel Antonio Gonzalez Subject: Jewel mention in 3/3/98 Daily News New York Daily News By Jim Farber VARIOUS ARTISTS "Tribute to Fleetwood Mac's Rumors" (Atlantic) "...or Jewel, who turns "You Make Lovin' Fun" into something more contemplative than the piece can possibly stand." I'm so proud to be a part of this list. I haven't listened to Jewel in quite a while, but I had to do an album critique for part of my midterms, and I chose Jewel. Just listening to it has renewed my love for her music and heartfelt emotion. Anywayz, onto the subject!! Has anyone noticed something strange about the song titles on the back of Pieces Of You? Well, they're all in italics, right? All of them except Adrian. I wonder why that is?? Anyone have an idea? Maybe my CD is a rare mess-up worth millions of dollars!! Now I'm dreaming!! Okay, feel free to post to the list, as I'm sure others would be interested to know why, too. Chances are, your uncle's work has DMX or some kind of similar music system. It was actually really weird. First "Have A Little Faith In Me" played, then Donovan's original "Sunshine Superman" played, which Jewel covered. Coincidence? Who knows, but it definitely was DMX and nothing that any mortal being chose to play. I think DMX uses some kind of random playlist generator. - -Rob diehlr@purdue.edu - ---------------- Music plays overhead all day where my uncle works as a computer programmer and he emailed me today to ask me about this song he's been hearing that sounds like jewel that's called "have a little faith in me" i wrote back and told him it was jewel, but i was just wondering why in the world anyone would be playing it.
