The Grammys were awesome. The actual show was soooo much longer than I thought it would be. THe only chance I got to see Jewel was when she presented the award with Mike Myers. I would'nt have known it was her if they wouldn't have said it ahead of time (I had some cheesy ass seats), but I'm not complaining. I'm going to go watch the tape of the Grammys now, I'll wwrite back later. I absolutely adore that song. in fact, like the whole album is kinda spiritual like that >>also i love her instrumental "last dance" so i'm very happy she >>recieved that :) I also wanted to say that jewel looked absolutely boootiful. even better than last year *winkwink* 'course she always looks lovely. And the fact she was up there with Mike Myers, who had his ashes on ..that totally rocked! Well thats it. sorry to bother y'alls Your Sister Em' " That which is loved is always beautiful." It seems all the karmic forces are ideal- I don't think Jewel is going to get any more popular now in the U.S. than she already is. Waiting any longer just seems totally stupid to me- both for popularity and business. I know Atlantic is pulling most of the shots here, but timing really is important in such things. On this one I differ. While she certainly was one of the hot stars last year, I think that with some of the more diverse stuff that will likely be on her next album, likely "to be released" singles such as Carnivore, Satelitte, (hopefully) 1000 Miles Away, Love Me Just Leave Me Alone and (hopefully) Nicotine Love could pull in many of the folks that didn't care either way before, and may even sway some of the Jewel bashers. Personally, if the fall-release date sticks, I think she's going to be mega-huge a year from now :-) Mike :-) P.S. But if you look at Alanis Morissette who is having a new album sometime soon, people think that she will be a big hit this year. Her popularity dropped off here this last year and maybe that is what Jewel needs. I personally think that Jewel's next albulm will do just as well if not better because no matter when it comes out people will notice and think "hey I liked her other songs" so they will check it out. It's called _The Stone Angel_, by Margaret Laurence, and it's about an old woman who is very strong and courageous, but who never learned how to love anyone because she was just too darn proud. She was the kind of person who built a wall around herself and didn't let anyone else in. Anyway, if anyone can think of any of Jewel's songs offhand that I can relate to the novel (I don't exactly have the time to spend hours wading through her song lyrics), your help would be soo appreciated. In unrelated news, I'm on the prom committee at school, and we're thinking about having Sarah McLachlan's _I will remember you_ as the prom theme song. I love that song! :) Joanne *sleepy angel* - -- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Joanne sieglinde@geocities.com http://www.geocities.com/Vienna/8127 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 Feb 1998 22:38:44 PST From: "Capriccio 191" Subject: Modern Rock Live CDs Hey EDAs! OH let me just say she looked SPECTACULAR and performed even better than I've ever imagined (Even though her "Adia" last night on my David Letterman (yeah he's MINE) show was near unbeatable except the little waver at the end). I must say though that I agree all the winners deserved their awards except for a few.. I mean Hanson should have won something I feel.. Although Paula Cole is good for an award, she should have won a different one, not Best New Artist because Hanson are new and Paula Cole's been around for a LONG time. Cute news? While watching the Grammy's me and my mother found an issue of Billboard from 1994. What did we see? A HUGE PAGE SARAH MCLACHLAN AD FOR FTE :) tee hee.. And then we found some others... a nice ad for Jewel :) Lotsa good stuff in the old ones but nothing compares to my five foot tall Erasure "DRAMA!" poster ANYWAY went off on a tangent.. I'm glad Mariah Carey didn't win anything... I have an idea for my upcoming album (soon enough hopefully once i find a local guitarist) That the cover will consist of large spaghetti strands colored red and I'll title it "Mariah's Vocal Chords" and I'll be on the cover cutting them into little pieces ANd my sleeve will have a whole dedication to the EDA's and like people that influenced me and if you all want you can be in the little pictures and stuff or whatever.. THIS IS JUST IN THE DRAWING STAGES anyhoo.. anyone else a bit disapointed that the female artists only had like really short versions of their songs to perform? ANyone else noticed the slightly-miffed look on Sheryl Crow's face after their performances? tee hee :) Okay what else is there to say except that too many singers got sick, Celine Dion did great and I even sang along "My heart will go oooooooon aaaaaand ooooooooon" ummm Hanson ... i know you'll prolly cringe at this, but I think they were pretty good. I know I could never play keyboards because I suck and the drums were just as difficult Something else to say? I'm glad Ani DiFranco didn't win the award she was up for because it would have embarrassed the academy since Ani would have done something that woulda totally pissed them off since she's anti-media almost.. well.. somewhat.. you know what I mean. What else can I say, oh yeah.. Mike Myers and Jewel presenting was so good since they're both funny, witty people and they both can do really good impersonations, yeah ;) well this is Linda signing off.. gee I wish I had the job of presenter from E!'s little pre-show bash. I'd be good at it.. LAters gators.. - -linda the LOVABLE ANGEL :) p.s. oh yeah go to my page.. I'm starting a dedications to diners and all this other stuff.. If the new album is anywhere close to the quality level of almost all of the songs of hers that I have heard, then I think it will be popular. Even if it turns out to not be popular, does it really matter? I know this may sound selfish (yes, I am selfish sometimes, I am altruistic sometimes, I am human most of the time), but all I really care about is that I am getting the album. If the majority of the people don't get it, then it is there loss. (I imagine it was important for Jewel to worry about popularity in the early days, since she was basically making a day-to-day living with her income from the music, but it would seem that that is no longer the case). In fact, if she did lose popularity, then get back to a more personal relationship with her fans if she wanted to! (see, you gotta see good in every situation). {wait a minute, I've not been on the list for all that long, but isn't this similar to something that one of the Harris' said back in the earlier days (or was that just a figment of my imagination) Anyways, I wish Jewel all the popularity she could ever want with her new album!
