I don't think that Jewel necessarily has any strong work ethic. She has only opened up her heart and followed it, living life with passion. Work ethic implies that she isn't as happy as a clam doing what she's doing. No, I think she has figured out that she loves what she does and it makes her happy, so... if something makes you happy, I think you are bound to do as much of it as you possibly can handle. I also think that this is a wonderful example to us all, we need to first examine and then follow our hearts because only then we can be set free to really live life-- any time we do that, we not only benefit ourselves, we benefit everyone that we come into contact with. My life has shown this. Please direct any responses to earlier to this address. Now concerning the string... >what jewel song reminds you most of yourself??? painters. I do, I am. The one thing important to me in life is my relationships and the love I build inside of them. I can see myself as the guy in that my life is my love. I can see nothing else of importance. >and what jewel song do you relate to the most??? 1000 miles. I feel like this with the world most of the time, I have had a rough childhood (I'm now 20) and the world never seems to care for me or to help me out in my difficulties, even less to begin to see my heart, understand it, what causes it to feel the way it does, and the truths behind it all. In this way, I am 1000 miles away from the world and 1000 miles away from love, which happens to be the one thing that I desire from this life and the one thing my soul is best designed to give. The song I most relate to is Carnivore (at the moment anyway) because my ex really broke my heart. I don't know all of the lyrics, so I was wondering if anyone could send them to me. Then I am going to send the song to him. Thanks, and have a great weekend!!! Unfortunately I am a very deprived (namely job-less) Angel who would have nothing to trade and no money to send if someone has it, but I guess I'm just hoping that someone out there out of the goodness of their heart could send it to me, and I would owe them a favor? (nice run-on sentence there, don't you think?) So if you do, please, please e-mail me (DGlowAngel@AOL.com) and we'll work something out. Thank you sooo much! Who's birthday is today (2/20). Kurt revolutionized the world of music. Sending alternitive and punk music into the mainstreem with "smells like teen spirit". A truly great man and musician, Kurt was. I remember standing outside his funeral... they were handing out his clothes to fans, and Courtney saw me standing there. She walked up to me and handed me his leather jacket... I burst into tears. I'm asking you all to remember him today as well as the other great people we have lost recently. Princess Di, Chris Farley, Christopher Wallace, John Denver, Sunny Bono, Harry Carrey, and others. Thanks for your time. I love you Kurt!! Sarah ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Feb 1998 17:49:19, -0500 From: HCCZ70D@prodigy.com ( SARAH MERRITT) Subject: Jewel and weight, etc. angels, I think the original post about Jewel's weight was merely a comment, not really an insult, but it sparked interest in the people of this list. In America, weight is a heavy (ha ha) issue, because people obsess over it. There are way too many young girls out there who want to look like supermodels. Most women I know who are over 5'6 do not weigh around 100 lbs, like most of the models. They are abnormal, not everyone else. Its sad that when girls become women and gain some weight, which is normal, she is considered "fat" by society, and then she feels bad about her body. I always thought of Jewel as different from all those other celebrities who wear about a size 2. One of her songs said "I am not size 6, my legs are not sticks." She has been voted most beautiful, sexiest female celebrity blah blah blah in a lot of magazines this year - which is great, because she is not a waif. The Grammy dress - I read a quote where she said " I will not be burdened by by womanhood." She's not scared of her curves. She is voluptuous, she is not afraid of her body, and she looks really comfortable in her own skin. If she gained weight, so what, if she loses weight, so what, if she dyes her hair blue, so what? I thought we were all on this list to enjoy her music, poetry, philosophy - not her body. I hope I'm not wrong. sarah ____ "don't forget to get perfect moments stuck in between your teeth." - Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Feb 1998 15:16:44 -0800 (PST) From: Flower Child Subject: Hello? I think people who label Jewel selfish may have lost sight of the true meaning of the word. The English language does mean something. First there's the people who criticize Jewel, and then there's the ones that criticize others for criticizing Jewel. That's pretty sad ya'll. First of all, by criticizing everybody, you're no better than the people who were doing it in the first place, and telling people to stop won't make them stop, believe me. Just let them criticize Jewel however they like, and it will probably run its course. If you post positive things, and ignore the negative, then the list will probably pick up a more positive vibe over time. Adding more negative isn't helping any. Not a goddess, not an angel (other than being an EDA like the rest of us, and yes, her voice is angelic..BUT) She is human. Let's not do this anymore. The volumes of posts to this list critique-ing every human thing she does is just plain ridiculous. We all enjoy her talent...and I'm sure she is great person to know...but I wouldn't say half of this garbage about someone I was friends with, let alone someone we've dedicated a mailing list to. I love reading these posts, I really do, but it's getting outtahand!! Please think about these things? And I'm sorry if offended anyone. I will await the flames.
