What this does is I would send it to the list once a month so that all angels know what names are taken. If you would like to participate I would like you to know this is not an official thing that the Jewel list is doing.... Just something I wanted to do to help people : ) So to submit your "entry" send it to Lagu83@AOL.COM with angel names for the heading/subject and in the body please do the following: ANGEL NAME NAME E-MAIL ADDRESS this is what mine would be CLEARWATER STEPHANIE Lagu83@AOL.COM thanks : ) BYE! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Feb 1998 14:25:41 -0500 From: Mike Connell Subject: Official Jewel list policy on "Angel Names" :-) Hey folks :-) I just wanted to post on the list the official list policy on "angel names" and announce an upcoming effort by Stephanie (Lagu83@aol.com) to aid list members with and wanting angel names. First of all, the list policy: Why is there even a list policy, you may ask? Sometime early last summer, a fad caught on where list members were signing their posts "The _____ angel" etc. It really caught on and snowballed. Many list members started to choose angel names. With no one really ever explaining them (angel names) publicly, new folks on the list started asking various questions about them. Then some list veterans DID post to the list about them, but the questions kept coming in. Nothing wrong with asking questions, it's normal and natural, but too many asking the same question(s) were rolling in. Finally, in early October, at the same time this list went into the one-month news-only mode, the owner of smoe.org (I just run this list, another owns the hardware) told me to put the kibosh on the "what are angel names?/how do I get an angel name?/help me choose an angel name" posts. Since that moment, posts asking about them or how to get one etc have not been put through to the list, I just answered them privately. (as I will continue to do, with a form reply) Of course, anyone can have an angel name if they want, but please note it's NOT an *official* list thing, you don't have to register one, you can't register one, you don't have to have one to be a list member, or an "EveryDay Angel"/EDA. All list members are EDAs, as it's just an acronym that is used as it's easier to say EDA instead of "Jewel mailing list member". So, if you want an angel name, just choose one, based on any criteria you want. Heck, we have one EDA who calls himself "The Pepsi Drinking Angel". If that be the case, maybe I should be the "Lipton Brisk Iced Tea Drinking Angel". My whole point in this is that you can choose ANYTHING :-) Now, on to Stephanie (Lagu83@aol.com) and her offer/effort. She has expressed an interest to "organize" the angel names, and post monthly or so who has what name etc. That be fine with me. :-) Her post on what she has in mind and how to do it is likely in your mailbox now, as I sent it shortly after I sent this one. Its' subject is simply "Angel names" your fellow EDA, Mike (Jewel list manager) * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand * The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * * If you have list related questions, feel free to email me * at Ducksoup@spectra.net * * DuckofPrey@aol.com WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Feb 1998 14:28:26 -0500 From: thumper@mis.net Subject: Phyllis Barnabee Does anyone have the Phyllis Barnabee Gets a Bra EP (not for sale mind you)? /@ Shane Kirk \ \ 127 Commonwealth Dr., University of Kentucky, ___> \ Lexington, Kentucky 40503 (__O) \ (____O) \ thumper@mis.net (____O) \ (__O)_ \ \ \ http://www.uky.edu/~sekirk0/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 7 Feb 1998 15:38:29 EST From: DGlowAngel@aol.com Subject: I'm so happy - you'll probably think I'm nuts I just got out my POY to play it when the strangest thing happened. I pulled out the cover and actually looked at it. Not looked at it and thought, "wow, she's pretty" or "wow I love that quote" like I normally think. I looked at it, the edges bent from being pulled out to much, the shine almost all gone from the paper, the small stain on the back where my brother sat in something, and I fell in love with it all over again. I looked through it again and read Jewel's poems, the words to all the songs, and I remembered this is what it's all about. Looking at it brings back the fresh smell of spring to me, back before I got this depressed and bogged down by the every routine of life. That is why I love Jewel. It brings back memories of my entire family painting my room to the tune of Jewel's songs. It brings back memories of happiness, which I haven't felt in a long, long time. Does she do that song live? Another thing. I was listening to the San Diego preformance for the zillionth time, and in Adrian, when she sings "He looked so fragile, he looked so small/She wondered why he was still alive at all", at the end of it, the way she holds the last word out, and it echoes everywhere, just gives me chills every time. Love that. That was SUCH a beautiful performance... New thread: fave guotes: "They thought blue prints were too sad so they made them yellow" -I was so surprised to see how many people loved that line... :) "We sacrifice our pride, compromised our health We must demand more, not of each other, but more from ourselves" -Deep Water Where are my angels? Where's my golden one? Where's my hope now that my heros have gone? Some are being beaten Some are being born And some can't tell the difference anymore Amen -Amen (actually i love the entire song, and all the lyrics) I take back my songs and my poetry This time i won't be too easy to read -Carnivore love & muffins, Michelle ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 07 Feb 1998 17:16:26 -0800 From: Jan Winters Subject: Re: I'm so happy - you'll probably think I'm nuts DGlowAngel@aol.com wrote: > painting my room to the tune of Jewel's songs. I gotta be honest. I've never really thought about it until this moment when I read the question. Her lip gloss in her who will save your soul video was ever so intriguing. And her teeth, of course, which were obviously highlighted. And of course, her voice. BTW: has anyone else noticed that she sounds older now than she does on POY? Okay, I know it might be because she is older, but I think she's gotten into remixes and holding onto notes much stronger. maybe that's what happens when you grow up... hmmm.... ok I'll go off and think. Depending on how many more similar posts roll in, there may be a third one of these :-) Mike :-) ******************************** From: clawre@lsumc.edu (Lawrence, C) Hello felow angels, I don't post very frequently but this thread was too good to pass up. My favorite Jewel lyric is from "Everything Breaks": "Maybe I should have loved you better, Maybe I you could have loved me more, Maybe our hearts were just next in line, Maybe everything breaks, sometime..." These lyrics personify the relationship I had with someone special. I'm not sure how we grew apart, but this song conveys my feelings when I reflect on the past. Angelically, Chris, the healing angel ******************************** From: "Oink oink" Hello there!! I just had to reply to this thread!! I guess my favorite lines from a Jewel song would be from Deep Water When you're standing in deep water And you're bailing yourself out with a straw When you're drowning in deep water And you wake up making love to a wall Well it's these little times that help to remind It's nothing without love I like these lines because it does help remind me that no matter how bad things are, as long as I have and receive love, everything can work out just fine. It's not my favorite line, it's more like lines(plural). It would be that or: Where are my angels? Where's my golden one? Where's my hope Now that my heros have gone? Some are being beaten Some are being born And some can't tell the difference anymore I like this because everytime I listen to POY I just wait and wait for Amen to play just to hear these lines. She sings it so beautifully that I could cry...if I was that type of person. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big softie at heart. Love, Quinn the angel that breaks everything sometimes ******************************** From: Prism14960@aol.com Hey Angels, This is a tough question!!!!! There are sooooo many that I love! Almost everyday I write a note to my friend at school, which are, by the way, usually about Jewel, (Hi Jamie) and I practically put a different quote at the end of it everyday. But if I absolutely had to pick a favorite line, it would probably be: "Your hands are in my hair, but my heart is in your teeth" from Near You Always. It's just incredible. And it's very witty too. (I don't like that adjective, witty, anyway) I also LOVE how she says the line "I wanna be near you always" at the end. Just amazing, gives me chills every time. Like I said, it is hard to choose, maybe I'll post a few more later. :) bye. Peace, Priscilla. "It's not because she hates what she doesn't understand, she just don't understand... Love, Quinn the angel that breaks everything sometimes ******************************** From: Richard Dixon Hi all, This is my first post. My favorite Jewel lyric(well, verse, actually) is: === She'd call him at 9 am To see how sleep had been treatin' him And though they were never lovers They were soulmates undercover They'd drink beer and sit around Or just sit still and not make a sound And he would he would shudder to think What life would be like without his best friend-slash-shrink Jessica - -Jessica === My best friend in the world is named Jessica, and we connect with each other through Jewel's lyrics so often that it's truly amazing. The first two verses of 'Jessica' describe us perfectly, and, as it happens, my best friend's name is Jessica. :) Richard Dixon ******************************** From: "Adrian du Plessis" so many faves - one that's in mind now (and always resonates): "some are being beaten/ some are being born/ and some can't tell the difference anymore" Amen (especially powerful with Jewel's staggered phrasing of some - can't - tell - - the - difference...) ******************************** From: VanSciver I think that my favorite Jewel phrase is from the Cold Song; It doesn't really apply to me personally, but I do know that it applies to a lot of people. "Do you do you wanna wanna wanna wanna do you do you wanna do me yes indeed, Oh do you do you wanna wanna catch/have a cold with me?" is the last like section of the song, and then the "do you wanna do you wanna do me yes indeed ... do you wanna wanna catch a cold with me?" It's probably not it's original use, but I felt that when she said the do you want to do me part, and catching a cold it's like getting STD's. Just my two cents ^_^ Oh, and thanks to Cafe Jewel: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Studios/6262/lyrics.htm for quick reference on short notice. :^) ******************************** From: laura282@juno.com (Laura P) "I was thinking, that it might do some good, if we robbed the cynics, and took all their food. That way what they believe will have taken place, and we'll give it to everybody who has been faithful..." from I'm Sensitive I don't know about you guys, but if you're a teenager, every store you go into, they think you're there to steal stuff. This really pisses me off, because there is this one lady at a store who always follows my friend and I around. I hate it! I also like "I'm sorry if my heart breaking ruined your day, oh well, sometimes it be that way!" from Sometimes it be that way I just really like that line. bye! Laura ******************************** From: vonfam@ionet.net I just wanted to post on this before this subject's over. My favorites would have to be.. "So be careful if you please, cause/ Your hands are in my hair/ but my heart is in your teeth, baby/ it just makes me want to make you near me always.." ~Near You Always and another from the same song.. "and when you look in my eyes/ please know my heart is in your hands/ it's nothing that I understand/ but in your arms you have complete power over me.." I like Jewel because of who she is, her amazing voice, and her incredible lyrics. Plus, she's more real than many of the other musicians out there, and you really do feel like you can relate with her music to some extent. :) Always and Forever, Naomi ~the angel that's learning what love is~ (or "the quiet angel") ******************************** to be continued??? * If you are new to the Jewel list and need a helping hand * The Jewel EveryDay Angels List Homepage & Guide is at: * http://www.spectra.net/~ducksoup * * If you have list related questions, feel free to email me * at Ducksoup@spectra.net * * DuckofPrey@aol.com WhyADuck55 on AOL Instant Messenger ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #95 **************************
