If you want to skip straight to the Jewel stuff it is in the bottom paragraph of the following article (no too long). Tara is mentioned in the 3rd. J- Lilith Fair '98 tour and album details By KAREN BLISS -- Jam! Music Details are surfacing about Lilith Fair '98. Sarah McLachlan's female-fronted concert bill is set to hit every major center in North America this summer, before heading to Europe and the U.K. for the first time. "Definitely, it's going to go oversees," says George Maniatis, Nettwerk Productions VP of A&R and marketing. The tour will kick off June 19 in Portland, Ore. Confirmed on the mainstage for the first leg are McLachlan, Sinead O'Connor, Erykah Badu, Natalie Merchant and Indigo Girls. Only two acts, K's Choice and Tara McLean, have been confirmed thus far on the second stage. No other dates have been announced, since there are still shows to be scheduled. "That's all they want to announce right now," says Maniatis. "Other mainstage acts will soon be added to the bill, along with a slew of second stage acts." The tour should last a month and a half in North America, says Maniatis. Unlike last year's Lilith Fair, McLachlan may not headline the entire tour. "I'm not speaking for Sarah," says Maniatis, "but from what I saw last year, the vibe I got some nights is she doesn't (always) want to headline. She wants to give the front stage away to someone else." A double CD set, compiling songs performed at Lilith Fair '97, will help build anticipation for the second annual Lilith Fair. Scheduled for release April 28, on Nettwerk in Canada and Arista in the U.S., the live album package features 24 of the 60-some artists who participated in the sell-out tour. The song selection mixes live versions of hit singles, album tracks and rare moments, culled from the best Lilith Fair performances. Indigo Girls "Water Is Wide", performed onstage by Indigo Girls, Jewel and McLachlan, is also included. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Feb 1998 13:54:55 -0600 (CST) From: "James H. I am sick of hearing people say that she is a snob now and she has no respect for her fans. jewel will never abandon her fans, we have supported her the whole time and we should still be doing it. I thought that she was great on both shows. I was kind of disappointed that they mentioned Matt LeBlanc's role in Wizard of Oz, but not Jewel's. If you are lucky, once in your lifetime someone will come along and change your life forever. They change the way you see things and the way you see the entire world from that point on. They give you hope and inspire you to follow your dreams. They teach us those fundamental survival philosophies to happiness that no one else every realizes and takes the time to teach us. They teach us what is not taught in school, nor at work, and sad of all not even by our parents. For those of us fortunate enought to be touched by such a person is a true blessing. For a lot of us, that person is Jewel. For alot of us Jewel is our angel sent down from the heavens to give us all hope and make those of us who have lost our smiles, smile again. Jewel is this person for me. She has taught me these precious things that I would have otherwise never known. I thanked Jewel for that in person and she said that it was her pleasure to do that for us. I continue to thank her for all she has and is still doing for people. I never used to believe in angels, but now I do. I didn't know that you didn't have to have visible wings or a tangible halo to be an angel. I thought angels were, if anything, made up cartoons charaters that looked like Cupid. Now, I know that angels are real. They are real people who care enough about others to do something to change the world a little bit, to make people smile again, to spead hope. Jewel does this and is truly an angel. Jewel started with nothing and went to everything. She is still growing and speading her wings now, and I can't wait to see her in movies. She has already proven to be a great actress, The Wizard Of Oz Dreams Come True Concet, and I am anxiously awaiting to not only hear her as in music but now to see her in motion picture. If just her music and words moved us, then just imagin what a movie of hers will do. If a picture is worth a thousand words, well, a motion picure must be worth a billion words. Now, we will get to see her and her facial expressions and get to see her act! We are not losing Jewel, we are watching and helping her grow into an even larger angel so she can move, touch and change even more people. Originally I wasn't going to reply to post my reply to any of these comments, being new onthe list and all, but I just have to say that I agree that Jewel is just another human being who happens to hold an amazing talent and that we have no right to judge her. I feel, however, that we may feel dissappointed by the lack of conviction we see in her musical endeavors because that her conviction is, in my eyes, her defining feature as an artist. By the way, I also wanted to let everyone know that I'm really glad to be on this list. Everyone has been amazingly kind, like angels:-). I think the majority of the people on this list are living examples of Jewel's finest hopes for the nature of man kind. Currently in its 102nd week on the Billboard 200 (where it remains the longest-running current album on the chart), the album was released on February 28th, 1995. PIECES OF YOU continues to rack up sales around the world with a certification of five-times platinum in Canada; four-times platinum in New Zealand, where the album topped the charts; triple-platinum in Australia; platinum in Singapore; and gold in Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Norway, and Spain. Jewel recently set a new record for longevity on Billboard's "Hot 100" with her smash single, "Foolish Games/You Were Meant For Me." The single, currently in its 63rd week on the nation's pop chart, recently passed the 60-week record previously set by Los Del Rio's "Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)." I think we can all sleep a lot easier now that we know that the Macarena holds no chart history records. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Feb 1998 19:42:36 -0500 From: casper31@juno.com (Adina F) Subject: NJC: Sarah Mclachlan and Chantel Kreviazuk Hi, Any angels going to the Sarah Mclachlan concert in Toledo, Ohio on April 8 or the Chantel Kreviazuk concert in Royal Oak, Michigan on Febuary 27? Well, it has been a year since I've been on this list. A year ago while surfing the net, I came across Collin's page and there was a place to sign up for a Jewel mailing list. At first I thought it was a snail mail kinda thing. heh dumbass me. I didn't know about what mailing list and things were :P I really didn't know what to expect at first when I signed on. I thought I would just get things about Jewel and that's it. I had no idea that it was way much more. Larry Greenfield once GREATLY (kissing up so he can provide me with free legal advice one day ;) j/k) said, "We started out as fans of Jewel, and we ended up becoming fans of one another!" Jewel brings us all together but it is the EDAs that make this list so great. I think Mr Dennis Harris or someone whom i forget once said that the when you go to your first gathering all you do is talk about jewel but eventually when you go to more you get to know the ppl better and you eventually forgot about jewel. That is very true. You get to know these ppl from here a little better and eventually become friends. I've meet lots of you ppl and you all are so damn freaken cool!!!! I've made lots of friends here and on IRC in #jewel and #EDA I've had a great time on this list. I've been to two gatherings. Hopefully I'll be going to more and getting to hang out with more EDAs!!! Woo hoo again! heh :) Alright, enough rambling by me. I gotta go do my freaken homework. You people are great! Take care. Are you on it because you think Jewel is an amazing person = all around, you respect her , you love her music, her writing, her = personality and her being herself. Or is it because you want to watch = her appear on t.v. then criticize her if she has on too much, makeup, = you didn't like her hair or she said something you didn't like? I am = sick of people judging her. Would there be an EDA list if she wasn't = Famous? Probably not. Jewel IS one of the most down to earth = celebrities, and just because she wants to look nice that's a bad thing? = Some people need to get a life. I mean come on, don't you want to look = nice? I wear makeup and I have a lot of self confidence but I'm not = arrogant and neither is JEWEL. So how about the list goes back to = talking about Jewel and how we love her music and now her acting. She's = free to do what she wants and I know that she doesn't have a mailing = list to criticize her supposedly fans EDAs.=20 Samantha ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 5 Feb 1998 02:09:54 +0100 From: "Robert Lutczyk" Subject: Need angelfood and Support Jewel Hallo there, my second post here. It's good to see so many people supporting Jewel, I can't help feeling that the people complaining are selfish. I think that Jewel herself enjoys her success and for me that's the important part, she has struggled her whole life and worked her butt off and deservers all the success in the world. As for success beeing bad for her, well during her lifetime she has shown an unbelivable strength and I firmly belive that she can handle the music-bussiness and stay true to herself. She won't "sell out", she's still the earthy girl, and wearing some nice dresses when on TV doesn't change that. Leno/Rosie shows, come on people, what are we talking about? I haven't seen Leno but I heard Rosie (thanks Doug for putting out the sound byte), the interview part was great, she was SO funny and cocky. I love that, and also I love her honesty, no fake smiles when she's not happy , and we all have those days when we just want to stay in bed. I guess the days of Jewel standing in the door of a coffee-shop thanking everybody for listening are over and we have to accept that, I'm sure she will continue doing small gigs and now she won't have to sleep in a van afterwards. So again, GOOD LUCK JEWEL!! Now to the important part, I'm starving here in Sweden and I'm in desperate need of some angelfood, are there any European angels around to help me out? Also I would love to see the Leno and Rosie shows, has anybody taped them? Robert, the viking angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #87 **************************
