Hey everbody, I just wanted to say I was getting to the point I was starting not to like jewel anymore {dont yell at me} like on Jay Leno she was kind of stuck up and I thought "O Great another artist sucked up into mainstream never to be normal again" But then I saw her on Rosie and I dont know what it is about rosie but she makes people feel comfortable around her, so anywho Jewel was very funny and normal and I was like YEAH! we didnt lose her. So I just wanted to let everyone know I am still a die hard Jewel fan. Before I get more comments on how wrong I am, I just want to say a few things. We live in a democracy. Therefore a person has a right to an opinion even if it's wrong...right..dumb or just different. When somebody speaks an opinion it's in our best interest to acknowledge their opinion ans respect it even if it does not necessarily reflect our views. When I wrote my post, my ideas were expressed and thought over. My intentions were not to offend or madden anyone in anyway. One person wrote back saying that televsion expects celebreties to look a certain way. Before, Jewel was way down to earth and natural. Then all of a sudden that changes. If she wasn't preocuppied by it before then why is she now?? That's all I was saying. Then some of you EDA's didn't take the time to read my post and truly understand before you sent me rude, condescending and down right mean e-mails. I'm not talking to all of you EDA's, only the ones that have no tact and respect for another person's opinion. So far I think I have only gotten one response that was decent and well structured. In my opinion, not only one point of view is right, that being my personal views. Without opinions from other people, how could you grow as a person and acquire new knowledge?? It's not about agreeing with the person, but respecting and learning to respect. A lot of you are Jewel fans but don't respect your peers. This is the "EDA Mailing List" for Jewel fans. We're supposed to stick together as a group of people with at least one common interest which is Jewel. We're not supposed to disrespect and dismiss other EDA members' opinions if they do not reflect our own. Our duty as EDA's is too support each other and learn about our differences in tastes and opinions. *Maxine* ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Feb 1998 14:47:20 -0500 (EST) From: Rutabaga Subject: Re: please read! why judge jewel? I dont want to get anyone mad, but this is ust what I was talking about before. Some people, no offense Sam, but some people have Jewel so high on a pedastal, that she becomes their life. Jewel is jsut a normal person like the rest of us. Just because she posesses a talent, doesn't mean she's some creature thats better than anyone else. She's mortal too. This list is to discuss Jewel and her music. We dont have the right to pass judgement on her because we dont know what she's thinking, and we dont have the right to proclaim Jewel our God. With that said, I hope we can finally drop this thread. Frankly I've been a Jewel fan for the last couple of years and if Jewel was tired of singing like some people thinks she is I believe that she'd stop. Instead she's making a new album coming out probably this fall and her status as an artist is better than ever. I give Jewel the full "go ahead" on expanding her limits into film. Sure there are many groups and singers that did horribly in the motion picture industry, but there are many others who did really great. Frank Sinatra won an academy award for his role in from "Here to Eternity". Don't lose faith in Jewel just because of some misunderstood remark that really has no relevance. Jewel is hotter than ever. Judge her by her actions not her words. - - Jason - -Peace, lovin and fun angel. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Feb 1998 15:47:08 -0800 From: dunphynm@essex1.com (Nancy Dunphy) Subject: NJC: Read if you want!!!!! But for those of you who would like to carry on a ration conversation about this and are NOT easily offended...please...read on** Why do fans always have to criticize EVERYTHING their heros do? I noticed it alot here, but also on the Counting Crows list and the Sarah McLachlan list. People criticize musicians WAY too much. Is it REALLY necessary to analyze everything? Geez...I try to not to analyze musicians too much, why should I? Would I want people to analyze everything I said and did? I think not. Why should we treat anyone else any differently? I didn't watch the SuperBowl, or Leno or the Rosie O'Donnell show, nor did I read the messages criticizing her on each. Were the 200 messages about the Super Bowl REALLY necessary? What about the 25 about her new hair cut? Who cares? Honestly. Maybe I'm just saying this cause I'm not fanatic about ANY musician, I have never really felt the desire to criticize musician's music. Maybe it comes from being a musician myself, maybe that's why I have never really been critical of musicians, I put myself in their place and think if I would want people saying the same about me if I was the one in the spotlight. I wouldn't want people analyzing and criticizing every move I made or every word I said, and quite frankly, I doubt any of you would either. Why should we impose higher standards on others than we would impose on ourselves? We need to stop being so analytical of others and stop caring so much about what they say and do. Most of you wouldn't really care anyway, just as long as the musicians keep putting out records, you'll be happy. Just look at the countless fans that follow most bands, I'm not going to name any names as I can't think of any. But the bands don't question the fans, why should the fans question the bands? I want to know why nobody is saying they want Angel Needs A Ride for their list of songs for Jewel's new CD. I mean come on... It's a wonderful song that gets me belting out the words every time. Anyway, I'd like to comment in responce to Reminded of a Simple phrase (the post about the Leno thing). I agree totally. Fashion and beauty is a frivilous thing that most shouldn't worry about. But, when Jewel is in the spotlight, it would be more disrespectful if she showed-up at an award ceremony with unwashed hair, dirty clothes, and nasty grugy teeth (over exagerating obviously...). I think she is merely trying to dress and look descent. Who says she's overdoing it? Plus, it's her face, her life, her choice, none of our business. I, personally, don't think clothes, make-up, etc. mean anything about a person and what they're like underneath. Jewel can do whatever the hell she wants with her body and I'll still love her music and be just as moved by it. On a lighter note... I would like to recommend to everyone Issac J. Hello, my angels.... ;o) I just wanted to write and put in my $.02. Some people had made comments on how Jewel is so "mean" or "dislikes her fans" because of some comments she's made. But the truth is...she has a right to be kinda peeved sometimes. She's a normal person just like each and every one of us... yet we put her on a pedistal. And sometimes it just gets to her... Not saying this is nessesarily bad... just saying that she doesn't want people looking up to her so much all the time. She says herself constantly that what she's accomplished isn't anything so special that you or I can't accomplish the very same thing. Now, I didn't get to see the Rosie interview...unfortunatly... But I know Jewel has always been extremely considerate of her fans. (give or take a few bad days) And she wouldn't purposely do or say anything to put us down... or make us seem dumb or immature "wannabes" (Haha, I should talk eh?). But as much as we LOVE Jewel...and L*O*V*E her music.... there ARE limits. Jewel was just making those comments about the people who couldn't see the "limits".
