Sorry for the non-jewel post, but with Valentine's day right around the corner I'm doing another little project. I've tried to find quotes and lyrics about the JOY of being in love. Not the broken hearts, etc. The good stuff. So if you guys could email me with your quotes and lyrics I'd appreciate sooo much. Or at least some good quote sites. Thanks. - -Whitney P.S.- regarding the post from Rebecca about angels, I'm always sorry to see someone go but I don't remember any posts about NOT posting any NJC posts. From my opinion, she's just tired of singing the same damn songs over and over. Her album has been out since late 1994, and now she's sang Foolish Games, Who Will Save Your Soul, and You Were Meant For Me for more than 3 damn years. So just shut up about the "giving up" crap. Rogers" Subject: the Rosie Show Hello EDAs, I thought was wonderful. She looked great with her tan and her new hair due. The FG performance was out of this world!!!! It was different and sounded fresh and fun to listen to. When she had her talk with Rosie I had to chuckle a bit when she didn't know her own website! She had a cute joke about being a "rich, white girl." She has a great sense of humor; I like that. I have a thought. Wouldn't it be a creative idea if Jewel came out with her own line of "Jewel"ry??!! You know, watches with her face on the face of the watch; things like that; things for both men and women. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Tomorrow I'm going to e-mail Jewel to see if anything can happen. She sang it without displaying as much sadness and anger as she did on Leno the other night, but another wonderful job. Is her favorite color black or does does she just look best in it? Gee, I can hardly wait to see how people disect her interview, especially her "Oh, the problems of us rich white girls now, it's terrible. {laugh, laugh}". She was commenting about not wanting to get all dressed up and putting make-up on again at the Grammy Awards. Please, don't over analyze this. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Feb 1998 17:35:52 -0500 From: kinaba@completebbs.com Subject: Jewel in Guitar One Magazine Dear EDA's, Jewel is featured in February's edition of Wolf Marshall's Guitar One Magazine. It's just a short blurb, but basically, "You Were Meant For Me" was mentioned as one of the best riffs of 1997. Here's what the article read: "This year's Lilith Fair helped spawn a breakthrough for several female artists, including Sarah McLachlan, Meredith Brooks, and many other festival participants. But perhaps the most prosperous was the Alaskan-raised Jewel, who established herself as today's favorite folk-pop artist with three Top 10 singles, "Who Will Save Your Soul," "Foolish Games," and "You Were Meant for Me." All three cuts feature the singer's subdued acoustic fingerpicking work behind her distinct vocal melodies. The recognizable pattern in "You Were Meant for Me" outlines the harmony of four chords: Cadd2 (C-D-E-G), G6/B (B-G-D-E), Cmaj7(C-E-G-B), and Em7(E-G-B-D). Of course, if you're going to compose a memorable guitar riff, it doesn't hurt to repeat it over and over again. In fact, Jewel carries out this four-measure motif through nearly the entire song." She's also one of the refugee boat people, who arrives at Pulau Bidong, a refugee camp on a Malaysian island, later that year was transferred to another Malaysian camp, Sungei Beei camp in 1982). At the time she was twelve years of age. If you know someone with the history, or by this name & also a Vietnamese, please email me privately. dle@notes.mat.army.defence.gov.au Thanks a million. D~ L^ ....... (1/2 way Down to Earth Angel) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Feb 1998 20:44:50 -0700 From: "Rhino" Subject: Reminded of a simple phrase... EDAs, While I think all of this "Jewel Losing Heart" and "comments on Leno" babbling has come straight from the department of redundancy department ;o), I have to comment on the whole "make-up and glamour" issue. Jewel does not look bad, or hypocritical, or like a conformist with make-up. Her clothes do not make her look less truthful or heartfelt. HOWEVER, I am reminded of a simple phrase that comes from the beautiful song, "Flower". It goes: "Fashion don't mean anything cause fashion cannot be our friend". This was something she believed so much that she incorporated it into a song. Now, however, fashion seems to mean alot to her. I'm not the type to lose interest or "faith" in Jewel because of something so insignificant and I find myself wondering if she has "matured" in her own way. Maybe she has realized being a pop star makes her extremely zeroed-in on and focused on. She's under the spotlight. Perhaps she feels more self-conscious about her appearance as more and more people look at her. This seems only natural, but why would she go against something she believes in? I don't get it. I realize she is not some all-powerful superhuman, and she is susceptible to bending. But sometimes things appear in a different light. I mean, right now I think fashion is pretty frivolous, but if I were to become famous and immensely wealthy, I think I would like to have great clothes and a killer hairdo, know what I mean? So anywayz, enough rambling. As you can see I'm kinda torn on the issue, but its her life, so it's really none of my business anyway! So later peeps, and thanks for reading (if you did)! Keep smiling, Ryan the jagged little angel ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #81 **************************
