Nguyen" Subject: My Rosie O'Donnell Experience Hello EDA's!!! I just got back from the taping of the Rosie O'Donnell Show. The show was incredible. Jewel was of course fabulous. During the commercial break just before Jewel sang FG, I held up the picture that I had drawn of Jewel (the same one I got autographed by Jewel at the Irvine Lilith Fair) asking her to sign it for me, since she signed the back of the portrait before. She smiled and waived at me. Then later this nice lady that I had met earlier grabbed the portrait and yelled even louder asking Jewel to sign my the portrait and Jewel responded by saying, "I'll be right there." Then she went on to ask why couln't have I asked myself and continued to say,"I the guys in California are like that." The audience laughed it off. Well, anyways to make a long story short...one of Rosie's people took my portrait to Jewel backstage for her autograph. Now I have her autograph on the front and back! This show should air on NBC at 3pm on the west coast. Now....if I can just meet her...well I guess that has to be another time. It's nice to see some of you understand how Jewel must feel at this point in her musical career as any of us would. People must understand that Jewel is not there as their personal performer, that she has a life too. Jewel will grace us with her abilities in what ever way she chooses and we are lucky to be able to experience it. I will follow Jewel in what ever she decides to do out of love for her talent and respect of her abilities. Let's face it, one week ago, all you people who are bitching about Jewel, were telling all your friends how amazing Jewel was and how passionate she was, and now after 1 song and 1 statement on Leno your "loosing faith" or "dissapointed" in Jewel. Give me a break. With a selfish attitude like that I hope you don't call yourselves angels. Jewel will always be amazing no matter what she does, so lets appreciate what she offers. The little angelfood I have has touched me deeply enough to last me for life.I am a forever fan. I listened to tapes and watch her videos 100's of times and she still takes my breath away and gives me goosebumps every time, often bringing tears to my eyes. My 3 year old son makes me put on the Hardrock show every morning and even he is mesmerized. So I thank you Jewel for all the passion you have given to me, and I support you always. What about a guitar book? If there are, are they still available? Someone email me and tell me please.<< There is a Pieces Of You piano/vocal/guitar (or known as PVG) on sale in music stores that carry sheet music. Its been out for awhile. List price is rounded to about $20 --why do those stupid companies put $19.95 anyway?-- If your looking for a POY piano/vocal book, I'd need to check up on if it exists or not(or does anybody have it?). The only one Ive seen & heard of is the PVG version. It contains all of the songs that are on the POY album and in the same tunning as on the album(meaning the radio FG isn't the same as the album FG, therefore won't be in the same tunning) Back when it came out, weren't there problems with how the music was partally wrong? I don't have it, but I do sometimes thumb through it whenever the boss ain't around. =) GpA -Guitar playin Angel Alex ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Feb 98 07:32:35 GMT From: stan184@ix.netcom.com (Stanley Kuo) Subject: thread, Jewel on Leno Hi fellow EDAs, First I would like to throw my .02 cents on the Jay Leno show and Jewel's remark about music being redundant. Like another EDA has pointed out "redundant" does not mean bored it means repetitive. Jewel is a human like all of us; she is not a CD player that can play the same songs over and over forever. She wants to try new things and expand her options. Jewel has so much talent it'll be a crime to force her to stay in music only. I have every confidence in her decision to pursue acting and maybe she will attact lots of attention from Hollywood after this film. Remember that both Woody Allen and Stephen Stelberg have talked with her and they will surely talk to her again and we may see even more Jewel's films in the future. But even if that happened Jewel will remain true to her music so don't worry. Now I'd like to submit my wishlist for her second album: 1)Run Tonto Run 2)Deep Water 3)Flower 4)Emily or Jessica they are so similar in lyric 5)Down at the bridge 6)Fragile Flame 7)My own private God's gift to women(due to the language I kinda doubt it but it's one of the coolest song ever) 8)Sometimes it be that way(this song has better make it) 9)Grey Matter 10)Carnivore 11)Everything Breaks 12)Innocence maintained 13)Buttercup(such a sweet song) 14)Racecar Driver(I would REALLY like to hear this song on the radio) BTW I have seen Jewel LIVE at Java Joe's and have met Mr.BB who's the coolest and most ethusiastic EDA I have ever met. The reason I'm bringing this up is that some people are requesting people in other countries to record things for them. Just for your info- PAL and NTSC are not compatible. A PAL tape will not have sound or color in and NTSC VCR and Vice Versa. The only way to watch them is to have the format changed which can be done, but it is generally about thirty dollars to have it done professionally. I heard that your local campus AV class may have the equipment to do it but I'm not sure. Also there are a few more formats to deal with depending on where you get a tape from. Just wanted to let you know so that you didn't get disappointed with it later on- Norm ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 02 Feb 1998 19:55:37 -0500 From: "Seth D. Yep, a brand new song 14. a new song that hasn't been performed anywhere 15. a new song that Lenedra hasn't heard before 16. a new song that Jewel hasn't heard before and the second CD contains all songs that...guess what?...are brand new. sorry, just my lame ass attempt at some humor this morning. I still like Jewel and some of her music...But I liked her before she became the person she is now...She used to be the one performer that was true to herself...She dressed casually, didn't wear tons of makeup like she's doing and wasn't in every magazine on the news stand shelf. Jewel's modesty and natural appearance made me fall in love with her and her music...I also think she's trying to portray "the smart sophisticated woman" but as I recall...on one interview..they asked her what colour her eyes were and she started talking about life philosophies and how to be happy...I have converted alot of people to becomeing Jewel fans...But I don't know why...The whole greatness to her was that she wasn't full of herself...Now she's in "Seventeen" magazine as a makeup model...I like Jewel and I don't want to wear makeup like her because I liked her much more without makeup...Her album is getting boring...She has a duty to her fans to keep on producing...Some people told me that Jewel would only be a one hit wonder...It's nice she's expanding her career in acting...but what about a new album that is constantly delayed??? The whole"i lived in my van story" is getting old...If she was happy living in her van then why is it a big deal??? She's not the first artist that struggled for a career in music...They all do...Jewel was also one to talk about how society wanted people to be a certain way...and that we should just be ourselves...Now she's conforming to society's standards...These days I find myself listening to Spice Girls...They may not have that much talent...and they dress like...well provocativeley...but at least they stay true to their message of being whoever you want to be and having fun in life...They also managed to have an album come out and a CD as well...Before you people think I'm contradicting myself...The Spice Girls wear alot of makeup and look well fake at times...but that's who they are and want to be...But Jewel on the other hand always disagreed with society to have unrealistic views on women etc...then she turns around and starts wearing more and more makeup...I would rather read Jewel's poetry and morals rather than trying to get her "makeup" look...Spice Girls may not have this big message...but at least they respond to fans...and keep their attention...they also show that live can be fun if you find who you truly are...Thought Jewel would always be my role model...Now she's just another one that Hollywood has conformed... Everyone who's on TV has to wear make-up, including men. What's so strange about the "down to earth Jewel" wearing it?
