Sorry to post again so soon! :) >-Jenny, The Angel With Silver Lining I agree with Jenny about the Leno performance, but you shouldn't be puzzled by her comment. I don't think she meant it to sound the way people have interpreted it on this list. I think she just wants a break from three plus years of touring. Heck, most groups/singers want to take a break after a few months of touring. I guarantee she won't ever again tour as consistently as she has these past three years. She won't need to. We've been spoiled. I think what she's done with this one album (and esp. it being her 1st) is unprecedented. Of course, her repertoire of songs (100 or so??) hasn't limited her song selection in concert. As for the list, what I think it is, is people are too obsessed with Jewel. As with almost any group/singer, if you hear a song over and over again, you're going to get tired of it. My suggestion to these people are, if you're getting tired of her, take a break from listening to Jewel. But, the problem is, Jewel hasn't taken a break from herself and people on this list are afraid they'll miss something if they do take a break. I, myself, have been amazed that I'm not "tired" of her yet. I can watch/listen to her over and over again and not get sick of her.....yet. I've loved "Foolish Games" since I first heard it on VH1 Duets two years ago and it's still my favorite Jewel song. Just gotta hand it to Atlantic(and all the other huge music companies) to keep pushing an album that has taken its share of the market(in classic big record company fashion). In lame-mans terms, I think its like beating a dead animal. Its not going higher on the charts, so why still endorse it? Cause companies don't care about how great the artist's music is,they just want to make money. And Atlantic has been pushing back Fritz Creek Store for awhile now(since when? late '96?) What Im saying is be patient young(& vet.) EDAs, Jewel is still gonna do what she likes to do: play music & make a living off of that. Everything that can be said has been. So I will not add to it. Here's something new to write about: What are the top 14 songs (POY has 14) you would like to see on "Fritz Creek Store"? Here are mine: 1. Face Of Love (so it'll hit and show those snobs from Romeo & Juliet hehe) 2. Carnivore 3. Boy Needs a Bike 4. Last Dance Rodeo 5. Grey Matter 6. You're In Cleveland Today 7. Any Steve Poltz collaboration 8. Another SP collaboration 9. Fragile Flame Okay, I know that's only 9. I think the rest should be NEW songs that nobody's heard yet. So, anyway, continue this thread so we can get off the Jay Leno wagon. I think now that she's releasing books and doing a movie, her soul will feel balanced again, and she'll be more than happy to continue furthering her music. >> On "Radio Angels", she discusses how she kept trying to become a singer because that was her dream and she wanted to do something she loved or died. She mentioned music, not anything else. So, at one time, that was the most important thing to her. It's weird to hear she's moving on, although it's not bad. Do know that not everyone is guaranteed to get on the tape. For those who thought they had to add songs because I said that you needed a list of four, remember that there is no minimum (actually a minimum of one). Some people who can't play guitar need people to record the guitar part and they'll do a karaoke thing. Both EDAs will be credited. Remember, you will not be denied acceptance on the tape even if you sing "horribly". This is not about sounding like Jewel, this is about showing your support for her. Mm__) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 31 Jan 1998 22:42:58 PST From: "Glitter Girl" Subject: originals vs. re-recorded versions Reading all this stuff about FG in particular I was just wondering, does anyone agree that the original versions of songs like FG and YWMFM from POY are a lot better than the cleaned up radio versions? I know it's a boring yes/know question so if you're going to bother to respond, you might as well throw in the "and why?" bit too, just so there aren't a whole bunch of posts that say "yes, I agree." Personally I like the originals better, especially in the instance of FG, it just sounds so much more personal on POY than it does on the radio single. Also, I want to semi-apologize for my first post because it seems to have ignited a little fire in some of you... I'm not going to say "I'm sorry" because I'm not sorry for the things I said and I don't think I have anything to truly apologize for when it comes to my opinions. Whether you agree or disagree, they were just my opinions. So I'm not sorry for the things I said before, but I'm sorry if you were offended by my opinions in any way. I guess that's all for now then. Are there any fans of hers out there 'round North Jersey in particular? I am asking 'cause I have recently developed a liking for her music and she happens to be playing a couple of dates in the area later this week. Thursday in Long Branch NJ and Saturday in Huntingdon, Long Island. I'm thinking of going to one of the shows but have no one to go with and don't really feel like going to a concert by myself, never have before, and none of my friends or acquaintances know her music well enough to take a chance on seeing her live on a weekend night. So if there are any other EDAs who are thinking of going and need someone to go with or somethin' and are from around Norther NJ somewheres, email me, I'm a veteran EDA although most of the people on the list may not know me, my reputation and credibility can be vouched for. I know this is going to sound like a joke, but it's an honest question on my part. I've noticed people mentioned that they're sick of heard FG. That it's been over played, etc. My question is, if you like a song, how can you get sick of it? Seriously! This concept is foreign to me! I mean, I once listened to Rick Springfield's Jessie's Girl for 9 hours straight. No other songs. Am I sick of it? Nope. Never had been. I'm just curious. Ok here's the sides some of you think Jewel is quitting music to be an actress, some of you think she is putting music on hold and pursuing acting, and others like me think that she wants to do other stuff with her talents. I think of it this way if you were a person and you could act sing and draw and someone gave you this deal that you would only draw until your drawings sold and you would go to 48 cities in 40 days to show your drawings. It feels great at first but then when those drawings dont sell you get a little low and your thinking about quitting but you have that contract. So now some famous guy loves your drawings and all of a sudden you are noticed. Now you really feel great. Now your showing your drawings at high end places for tons and tons of people with a lot of money, but before you became famous with your art your drawings all were different now most of them resemble the one you sold to the famous man. So now you get an offer to dance on broadway! Do you take it? I would if I was starting to get bored of doing the same drawings but it doesn't mean I would stop completely with my drawings. Do you see what I am getting at? I mean I'm only 13 and if I can understand Jewel doing acting then most of you should too. Just put yourself in her position. As for quitting music I dont think so!! She wouldn't lie and say it's her passion. So like before have a lil faith in her. I'm getting good at posting.
