She had a lot of passion when she sang Foolish Games. Jewel is just awesome when she gets totally into her songs. Her hair looked cool too. She had it like that when she did the Much Music I&I performance. Oh, and can NE1 can answer this question for me? In the Much Music Intimate and Interactive video she mentions a poet. Beautiful, passionate rendition of Foolish Games. Love her new hair-do. And, she actually got to chat with Jay for a while. She said singing was getting redundant and she needs a break, thus the movie. Maybe that and the new CD will revitalize her. What ever she does artisticly I'll follow it. She has an artists soul. I just finished watching Jewel sing FG on Leno. She was great, I really feel the power in her music. I usually listen to POY while I try to go to sleep but end up staying awake until the end of the CD. Well, now I'm just babbling but I feel that it is in good taste. Does anyone know the name of it (i.e. the style)? I was sorry to hear that she is finding her music life "redundent." A nice long break is well deserved, though. She has been touring long and hard for many years now. We will all just have to be patient when it comes to seeing her again live. 7 million copies of POY have now been sold! It only seemed like yesterday that the total was at 5 million. Good for her! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 07:38:56 EST From: KMilesAway@aol.com Subject: Tonight Show Hi All! The only comment about the show that I want to make is that it was rather disheartening when Jewel said that the music side of her career is getting redundant and thats why she is doing the movie. I hope she just meant that meant in support of POY and not all of her performances, but the way it sounded it was music in general. Oh, well just my thoughts to provoke thoughts in you all (or is that y'all). P.s. It was also disappointing to see her still doing POY material on these shows after 3 years, thats where its redundant! Nicole ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 11:47:58 -0800 (PST) From: Fergus Ong Subject: Brandi's a girls name... and a bit more of other stuff... Hi all EDAs, I read Brandi's mail about the review and I got to thinking... well, Hootie, for one, came out with a 2nd album way too soon. That bloke could not have compared Hootie to Jewel cos, well, POY was written when Jewel was younger...well, at least some pretty few years ago... if my understanding of it is correct, POY was released early 1995. She's had loads of time to write new material. Sheryl Crow's 2nd album, in my opinion, is better than the first, in the sense that the whole album is better.... generally. I think... so again, I disagree with that reviewer. I'm sure Alanis will be fine. I'm not sure about Hanson... their Christmas album was abit soon after Middle Of Nowhere... wouldn't they take a break? In conclusion, i think Jewel's new album is gonna be great. That's all. Have faith. That's my policy. By the way, Brandi (if you're reading) I never thought you were a guy, haha... when I saw your name, I thought... girl's name, how could anyone mistake that. There's a movie, (dang cool movie) Mallrats with a girl called Brandi. In answer to the popular thread about how i discovered jewel... well, i read about her and i bought her cd for my brother's birthday. That's all.... NOT!!! Haha.... I bought her cd for my brother but listened to it before giving it to him. I liked it but i gave it to him anyway. But then, i listened to it even more and i ended up liking it much more than he did. I hated my situation! It was soooo ironic!!! So, when ,my friend asked me what I wanted for my birthday, guess what my answer was? You got it! POY! Its not that bad, cos I bought the initial version for my brother. Mine has the FG edit at the end and the new version of YWMFM. It also has the better cover and the full blue cd instead of the half blue cd. Well, that's all for now... until next time... Needless to say, I was a bit surprised to hear her say that last night. I just hope it doesn't affect the release of the new album. All in all, a good performance...not her best, but still good. She did seem a little "tired" of the whole music biz. So I believe what she said. I wish she had mentioned about the lip-syncing, that it wasn't her fault, but no such luck. I almost thought she was when she started talking about it. I will say she's an expert at working the camera angles. I thought she was going to come right out of the screen! Derrick ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 13:00:10 EST From: Beatles69@aol.com Subject: Jewel on the Tonight Show I thought Jewel's tonight show performance was really great last night. Every time I see her she gets better and better looking. Anyway one thing that sort of surprised me is that she mentioned something about Leonardo DiCaprio auditioning for the male lead in that new Ang Lee movie she's in. I also heard Matt Damon might be in it. Is Leo gonna be in that film with her or is Matt gonna be in it? Either one would be perfect to star with her since both are excellent young actors that would really help our princess, Jewel shine on the silver screen and both do really great dramatic movies as seen this winter season. - - your Peace lovin' and carin' angel ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 10:41:03 -0600 (CST) From: Thomas A Baas Subject: Stunning on Leno Jewel was absolutely stunning on Leno, doing "Foolish Games." She talked about her upcoming movie with DiCapiro...seemed a little disapointed that she didn't get a chance to "kiss the boy" yet...One thing that was a little disturbing to me was that she expressed some growing boredom of the repition & stuff of her music career at this point...which is understandable since she's been supporting her one album for like 4 years now & the same 3 hit singles...and she deserves a break if she wants to focus on acting for right now...I just can't wait for her next album! What's the projection for the release date on that right now? And when is she gonna be on Rosie?...and who was she rooting for in the Super Bowl? And while I'm asking all these questions, why did she have to lip-sync? love Tom ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 30 Jan 1998 09:10:27 -0700 (MST) From: K M Case Subject: Did anyone tape Jewel on Leno? I HAD to write in my thoughts about Jewel on Leno. I'm sorry, because it's another one you probably don't want to read. I feel I should write this because my love of Jewel has unfortunately gone downhill. Recently, anyway. All these stories were starting to affect my view of the angel. Leno changed that. She was amazing. I saw for the first time how much she loves her music. She was great. And, the sound wasn't always perfect, but it was from the heart. She has a beautiful voice and it is purely a gift. She doesn't have to fight for a great sound, it just soars from her mouth. Also, the tiny interview with her afterwards increased the positive experience. I'm sorry to hear that she's getting kinda sick of the "music thing", but that's understandable. She has more talent than most of us will ever have, sorry to say. And, it doesn't matter which talent she is concentrating on. She's not letting it go to waste, and that rules! Just had to say something.
