I just wanted to say, yes those were great lip-singing skills and second a reply to the Fav. Jewel song thread. My favorite Jewel song is "God's Gift To Women" because I am a femenist and that's the way I feel about everything- like guy's wanna do this or that and because nobody really hears Jewel swear so I show them that song and they open their mouths wide! But the word is very powerful in the sentence to me. But my next favorites are: 2. The Morning Song 3. Rocker Girl 4. Near You Always 5. Flower That's all for now. from the "other" angel, *Natasha* ***We will survive*** -Jewel ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Jan 1998 00:50:10 -0500 From: "Ron Williamson" Subject: How I got into Jewel/Fav. Songs The first time I heard Jewel, I was living in Atlanta. The DJ introduced her by saying that when he first saw her CD, he thought, "Man, she's cute." He then said that when he listened to it, he thought, "She can really sing too." He then played WWSYS. I loved it and bought the CD the next day. When I got the CD, I was disappointed. Several months later, I was cruising the web and deceided to look up Jewel. I was so impressed with her bio, I started listening to POY again. I've never looked back. My favorite songs: Painters: Her thoughts on how immortality is reached through beauty are refreshing Little Sister: Just so darn catchy I also love the way her voice cracks on Don't. She is real after all. The lip synching definitely put a restriction on her performance, though. Even though I am a guy, I'd rather have Jewel perform well, than look good. My favorite Jewel songs are: 1) Angel Standing By- It's such a beautiful song! 2) I'm Sensitive- Because I hope Jewel stays sensitive throughout her career. 3) A Boy Needs a Bike- I'm always walking around staying "Cause a man needs a car, and a Boy Needs a Bike: I got my first taste of freedom, beneath the light of the moon." 4) Down- It's a change a pace for Jewel. I really like this song. 5) Passing Time- This song could use an extra verse, and it's a good start. Well, that pretty much sums it up. If any Washington EDA's wanna talk with me, you know what to do. Thanks. I just got this AP report about the National Anthem and Jewel. Thought i would forward it to every one its not very long (ive seen other posts that are longer) so here goes: Jewel Sings at Super Bowl .c The Associated Press SAN DIEGO (AP) - Coming off a year in which she sold 4 million copies of her debut album, Jewel sang in front of her biggest audience yet - Super Bowl viewers. Jewel sang the national anthem before the game, which was watched on television by more than 100 million people. Jewel Kilcher, 23, may have been selected to sing Sunday's anthem in part because of her San Diego connections. She got her break performing at Pacific Beach's Inner Change coffeehouse. The Alaskan native bought a home five years ago in nearby Rancho Santa Fe and her mother, Nedra Carroll, lives in San Diego. Jewel and her mom also recently announced plans to create a nonprofit foundation in San Diego called Common Ground, devoted to ``worthy social causes.'' Jewel's 1995 debut album, ``Pieces of You,'' is approaching the 8 million sales mark, having sold 4 million copies in 1997. The album yielded three Top 10 singles, ``You Were Meant For Me,'' ``Who Will Save Your Soul?'' and ``Foolish Games.'' It also talked about Jewel singing the national anthem and there's a B/W picture of her included, but look at the photo caption below. My fav is You were meant for me.. as i had a long distance bf, and we just recently broke up, and that song has never touched me as deeply as it does now. I'm Sensitive - It's just so true in today's world. And the way that many people wish they could be. Also, last note... I was thinking of adding a "eda" dedication page to my homepage.. First i would like to get going a list of all the members and info about them.. (ie. email, homepage, if they have angel food and are willing to trade, etc..) But i would also like to get the creative side of all the angels that are willing to share (poetry, art, anything really..).. So i would like some thought and input into this idea.. And i will post again about it soon, giving all the info that i would like to get from everyone that would like to be a part of it.. :) That's all for now... :) - -- Jenny * the always romantic angel * ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Jan 1998 09:04:02 -0800 From: Jan Winters Subject: SONGS hi i thought i would put my 2 or 5 cents in this thread... i don't really think i have A favorite song, i have a few that really mean a lot to me though. you know the ones that you rewind on the tape that's falling apart about twelve times a day.... foolish games has always been close to my heart. it's strange, the man she describes is just like my first love. so when ever i hear it, i think of him and remember how close we once were but the actions of the man in the song remind me of a recent love of mine, sort of gets me to remember that he doesn't take my pain seriously enough, that my heartbreaking doesn't really mean anything to him 1,000 miles away makes me cry every time i hear it. the other day before school i had a jewel tape in and played it while i was getting ready, well 1,000 miles away came on and WHAM! i burst into tears. it's actualy really embarrasing that i can't handly listenning to a song! it just brings back such strange memories, i never thought anyone could ever really express the pain it feels to be far from someone that you really love. everything break sometime, jessica, houswife's revenge, silver linning and sometimes it be that way are some of my other favorties. also Just passing time. that one reminds me of a situation that i'm in now, so it hits home pretty hard. WWSYS and Pieces of You are also to amazing songs, they pretty much sum up life and lastly the dance between to women.....that song is stunning. my best friend and i listen to it often, when ever i hear it i get reminded about how strong my friendship is with her, how much we have been together and other corny stuff. basicaly though that we take our friends for granted, esp. when a special someone is in our lives. Alright! i think i've said enough.....*giggles* sorry about that! if anyone wants to E me please do! kat ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Jan 1998 19:13:53 -0000 From: "Mark Forrester" Subject: [none] hi To start with, I think I should apologize for saying that you are not edas, I can't think what came over me.......I never meant it , I just wanted to know if anyone actually read my messages . From the look of my inbox, you do :) Anyway, I would like to add my two cents, but I only have one cent from a visit to America last year. Will that do? thanx. Anyway, my favorite Jewel song has to be Angel standing by. I would never be able to describe to someone who had never heard it (nearly everyone i knew :( ) just how beautiful it is. It went into my top ten songs ever seconds after I heard it, and it's still there. Also, Foolish games morning song I'm sensitive and last but not least near you always There are probably lots more excellent jewel songs, but I only have a few that I have got from various jewel sites on the internet. I left my computer up here at school for the weekend, so my e-mail went unchecked for only like 2 and a half days, and when I finally checked it I had 93 messages from all of you! Cool, is all I have to say. Actually I'm only half done reading them right now, but I wanted to write in and tell about my favorite Jewel songs and why since that is the latest thread. In no specific order. Emily--I love the way Jewel ranges her voice in that song...every time I listen to it, it gives me goose bumps I'm sensitive--This song reminds me of my girlfriend, because she is just that...sensitive. the Cold Song--1. it's funny, and 2. I can still remember the time I heard jewel do it live, it has great memories attached. FG--Just because Rocker Girl--I just like it because it is amusing too. Anyways, hope I didn't bore you....you know actually, I like all of Jewel's songs, but these are the ones that I could think of why I did. Oh, well. I noticed on the survey, that there was only one South Dakota Angel that replied, and since that was me, I was wondering if there were any more out there. Let me know...maybe we can get something together. And who knows about her new album. She'll probably get some more fans because of her variety in music. Her new songs that have been performed in concert have all different types beats and everything and I'm sure people will find something in one of her songs that they will like. Also I truly like Alanis Morissette even before You Oughta Know was a single, and because of her long awaited album of course she's going to be back in 1998. She has millions of fans as does Jewel. Their music is total opposite so you can;t even compare except that they are both women. And if you don't like Alanis nobody really cares because this is a JEWEL list. And that means that this is FOR Jewel. And we all here like Jewel. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Jan 1998 15:23:34 -0500 (EST) From: Albert Sze-Wei Wang Subject: [JC] Jewel singing National Anthem QT I have a copy of Jewel singing the National Anthem in QT form on my Jewel Quotes and QT site (URL in the sig).
