Ok I'm out of lurk mode for an email. What can I say, I'm a quiet to-myself- person. Anyway, some of my favorite Jewel songs and why is the thread eh? Well, here they are: 1. You Were Meant for Me (Lost my best friend (was a guy) whom i loved dearly reminds me of him) 2. Foolish Games (actually the same reason as number 1) 3. Everything Breaks (Sometime) (reminds me that things happen as they will and usually do)---did ya'll understand that? 4. Angel Standing By (like Jewel it reminds me never to lose hope) 5. Amen (it helps me get my aggressions out when I listen to that song, I usually end up crying so I feel better)---weird huh? On a lighter note, yesterday I went malling and there was a collectors show at the mall I went to (for all you NJ EDA's it was Freehold Raceway Mall) and got 3 fabulous Jewel posters. One is a Pieces of You promo poster that is ceiling to floor and looks like the cover of the Foolish Games import. The next one is her with her guitar and a blue backround and she is looking down and playing Angel Standing By. The last one I got is the promo poster for the release of You Were Meant for Me in the UK on Nov. 10th. It's a pretty one. It has her and Big Blue standing on a cobble stone street and she's looking down playing it. All in all they were well worth the $27 I spent on them. Well, I really like this "what's your favorite Jewel song" thread, so I thought I'd add my two cents. Everything Breaks Sometimes... I love this song, I guess because it's parallels my beliefs. I have to admit, I'm quite a pessimist, and I've come to believe that anything good you have will eventually disappear. Near You Always... I can really relate to this one, it's all about letting go and allowing yourself to become vulnerable to other people. I have problems with this, whether it be in my relationships with guys or friends, and this song reminds me that sometimes the pain you feel when you lose someone is worth it when you consider the happy times you have with them. Sometimes it Be That Way... This is also one of my faves. I love the sarcasm, and it's just a really cool song to listen to. Carnivore... This kind of goes along with my trust theory. "I'll never trust my pink fleshy heart to a carnivore..." It's pretty self explanitory. I'm Sensitive... This has to be one of my all time favorite songs. It's so naive (sp?) yet so insightful. It's the perfect example of how I would like to be, how I wish I could be. I've been through so many bad experiences in my life, and it's made me cold in a way. I've developed the ability to shut people out and not let anyone get too close, and that scares me. I wish I could remain the way I used to be. She defines her music as "afro-celtic" it definatly has african, folk, jazz and soul influences. She was on Sessions at W.54th last year should be replayed in march i think. But blew me away. How i Got Into Jewel and my Bumpy Ride well i think it started with me listening and taping the top 40 or whatever on the radio and hoping for the cardigans "lovefool" to be at the top....after i taped it i listened to it over and over and heard jewel at no. 4 or so and i from then on i only listened to the tape and the top 40 to hear jewel...and so i have just been becoming more and more interesting in her...you ask about my bumpy ride....well i am still at school...and there is alot of peer pressure these days.....as most of you would know...and at first some of my friends liked her and some didnt...and i accepted that because everyone is entitled to their opinion...but later along the tracks....they read her poems in the POY album..and because of some of the subjects and words...they were very immature and started hating her and thinking she was stupid for using the word faggot in her songs and so forth....and around that time there were rumours about jewel being a lesbian....quite honestly....i didnt care....that has nothing to do with her singing so..it doesnt affect me or why i like her...anyway...at school we had a big argument about her and about 6 other friends were up against me saying thats she was a lemon and gay and a lesian and so forth then started calling me one.....so i just ignored them and though that they were immature twits...as they sometimes well nearly always still are....but a while later in the year, one by one they have slowly been coming up to me and saying " oh i like jewel now..." and that..but i am not sure if its because another friend has joined our group and she loves jewel or if they have just realised that she the bestest singer ever!!......anyway.....thats my story and i'm glad i stuck with jewel...i'd rather be with her than with hanson.....eww....anyway......thank-you all who read all of this...i know it wasnt very exciting but seeing as though everyone did 1 i thought i would contribute mine... i only have the POY albumn because thats all that is available so i have taken these from only those songs FAV.
