(By the way, if you want me to Email you a copy of the top 30 full list then Email me privately) but here are some cool things: 1)Despite her album being kinda past popular, Alanis Morissette still made the top selling of '97 chart 2)Sheryl Crow's album did pretty well, as it should have cause I love that album 3)Fiona Apple's Tidal and Sarah McLachlan's Surfacing both made it into the top 10 best selling albums of 1997 4)And of course #1 was our lovely Jewel with Pieces Of You. Letterman just about 9...ok 10 time out of 10 artist is on last right before the ending of the show. I don't think he ever sits 'em down before or after the artist plays a song. On Wednesday, Letterman let a guy talk too much and be said that Jars Of Clay(a Christian band) would be playing on Friday night. They are being forced to play a separate night! Well, at least they got paid twice!! =) Anyway... >>it's usually an ongoing list-joke that to tape Jewel on Letterman, all you had to do was record the last 6 minutes of the show ;)<< How did he know? =) I know that there are a few Dave Matthews Band fans out there in EDA-land, DMB is going to be on a repeat show next Tuesday the 20th with "Too Much" which I think, out of all of DMBs tapings on Letterman is the best. I can't really remember the first time that I heard Jewel. I've been in Germany for a few years now in the Air Force and really am not exposed to that much new music from the states over here. However a friend of mine had gotten her CD and after listening to a few songs I was somewhat impressed with her music. I can't say I ran to the store and bought it right away. Actually I got it from Columbia House as one of the 10 or 12 CD's that you get for joining. I was looking for a few more CD's to fill the list. I decided Jewel would be all right since I like slow mellow music and what I had heard of hers was just that. After getting it in the mail I was quite shocked by how beautiful her music was. I came acrossed the EDA's while looking on the Internet for non-album jewel tracks. I am still amazed by the amount of Angelfood that exists. I really am glad to be a part of this group. It truly is as someone else (sorry I can't remember who posted this) said a family. I am also part of a George Michael Fan Club that is constantly fighting about something. And isn't anywhere as close knit as this group is. I'm quite happy to be an EDA. Like I mentioned earlier I'm enlisted in the Air Force. I'm a weather observer stationed at Spangdahlem AB. About 30 miles north of Trier the closest big city to me. On the few occasions when I'm not at work I play with my three year old son and work on writing a novel (hence the new name) that I'll probably never finish. This year I'm am, at last getting out of the Air Force. I plan to go back to Portland Or where I'm planning on starting college and hanging out with any local area EDA's. Anyway sorry about the length. How about making an EDA poetry page possibly in coexistance with the Yearbook? I personally don't think an EDA poetry book would be hard to design, however passing the book around might be a bit combersome. It's not exactly a t-shirt that you can wear at a Jewel concert/Lilith Fair, or a tape which someone can dub with a stereo system. However, I like the idea of a central location for EDA poetry(kinda like the EDA Cover tape if I have the idea right). Thanks. - -Melissa ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jan 1998 18:23:08 EST From: Angel16f Subject: me, how I found Jewel, and non-PoY wavs Hi, my name is Kait, i'm a fairly new angel, and this is my first post. I am sixteen years old, live in Pennsylvania, love to sing, listen to music, write, act, sing, spend time outside, sing, and talk on the computer, did I mention I like to sing? I like a variety of music, and dont really concentrate on the classifications of songs, titles or people who actually sing the songs. I really want to be a singer/ songwriter/ actress and have wanted to since i was five. Well enough about me, I was first introduced to Jewel by my sister, who is much more aware of the new performers than I am, and she said to pick up this cd, by "Jewel", she thought I would like her. Being as I have ADD, I wasnt really paying attention, and went to the music store looking for a cd by a new artist "Pearl". They said that there was no artist by that name that they knew of. I told my sister, and she was like JEWEL, NOT PEARL!! Oops! Well, I finnaly got PoY, and absolutely fell in love with her perticular style (one very similar to the one I've been trying to achieve for the past nine years). I saw Jewel at the Lilith Fair in Scranton last summer, where i was on the lawn and she was like this big . Im very proud to call myself an EDA and would someday like to meet, if not perform with Jewel (which Im sure Im not alone). I am looking for any kind of non- PoY wavs, cds, tapes, anything!! Please contact me via email (please not to Angel16f, but to LittlKatie@aol.com) if you would be willing to donate these items to me (or show/tell me where they can be found) I am willing to pay. I guess thats it. Feel free to IM me if you ever see me online, as I love to talk!!! Thanks for listening (or reading I guess it would be) to me ramble!! And Thank you all in advance for helping me expand my Jewel collection. Kait - the rambling angel (is that name already taken?) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jan 1998 14:49:42 -0500 From: Scott Broughton Subject: NJC: My Jewel Story Before I start, I'd like to remind people... If you haven't signed the EDA guestbook yet, do it. When you first sign, there's a part where you share your first Jewel experience, and you can read other people's also. I forget the web address, but it might be on my Jewel page somewhere: http://www.geocities.com/Athens/7887/angel.html (allright, allright, shameless plug) My Jewel story is kinda long, so thanks for reading (if you are). I had heard WWSYS on the radio a few times spring/summer of '96 but wasn't hooked. I didn't even know who sang it. Then in Aug. '96, an online friend (who's also now an EDA) posted the lyrics to "Pieces of You" on another mailing list and I thought it was perhaps the most honest song I had ever read. I fell in love with the song without even hearing it. I bought the CD soon after and Jewel was instantly my favorite singer. I don't remember which songs struck me as being "better" than others the first time, but I love them all in a unique way. That whole fall, POY was practically the only CD I listened to. I joined the EDA list in Sept. '96 and got my first exposure to titles like "Racecar Driver" and "Nikos," songs I had never heard. Something had to be done. Since I was new, I didn't know anyone and felt sort of uncomfortable "demanding" tapes. Thanks to Dave DiCicco (I know I didn't spell that right), I got copies of JewelStock, Innerchange Days, and Rare Angels. If anyone would like a copy of Innerchange Days, e-mail me (you're reading this, you deserve some tapes :). My collection grew as more tapes were treed and I traded more, and I have well over 20 tapes now. This past summer, I saw Jewel at Lilith Fair in Shakopee. It wasn't long enough tho, only 50 minutes! That's the only time I've seen her live, but she was indescribable. I'm sorry she's not on the '98 tour (am I right in saying this?) but I'm so looking forward to Sarah again and hopefully Tori!
