One day in late Nov. '95 i was flipping channels I saw Melissa Etheridge on VH1 playing some of her old stuff with someone I didn't know (now I know that that person was Paula Cole). At first I thought the whole show was a duet with her then at the commercial break found out that there were other guests to appear, so I thought I'd sit down (actually I was already sitting) and watch the rest of the show. I had recently bought a couple of her early CD's and had been infatuated with the song "You Can Sleep While I Drive." I hoped that she would play that song sometime during the show. Well the next person to come out and preform was some person named Jewel, never heard of her either. Then Mellissa said they were going to sing "You Can Sleep While I Drive." Yay! They did a really nice performance and I thought this Jewel girl was pretty good at harmonizing, but wondered if she could really sing. Then she sang "Foolish Games" and it blew me away. I thought, "Oh, yeah, she can definately sing!" A couple weeks later I was in the music store and looking through the shelves for her CD, but suddenly I couldn't remember her name. I left I figured I'd remember sooner or later, I didn't and quickly forgot about her (isn't that just sad? :-( ) Well, a few months go by and once again I'm flipping channels one night after I get home from work and turn on VH1 Crossroads (I watch VH1 alot). I'm not paying any attention when al of the sudden I hear this familiar voice. It was the girl from the Mellissa Etheridge special! I watched for the credits so I could get her name. The song was WWSYS by JEWEL! Yes, now I know her name. I went out the next day and bought Pieces of You. When I got home I immediately put it in the CD player and was completely mesmerized from start to finish. After the Cd was over I just thought to myself, "Wow, that is the greatest CD I have ever heard in my life!" I fell in love with the album as a whole and later began to discover the individual songs themselves. I have been a fan ever since and joined the list about 2 months ago. I wish I had found out about it sooner so I could've joined a lot sooner. I hope my story doesn't bore you and sorry it got so long. (I wonder how many people have even read this far? :-) Tony Glass The angel with the wandering mind ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #35 **************************
