I kind of enjoy hearing everyone's stories. The first time I heard of Jewel was when WWSYS came out. I thought it was OK. I wasn't too impressed. But little did I know that this was going to be the artist that I would love the most. My musical tastes change quite rapidly. I went from metal to Springsteen to classic rock to everything else, pretty much. My musical tast has gotten mellower and mellower over the years. One thing that always changes my perspective of someone is their live performances. After Springsteen, who I still love, I started getting into the Beatles, and from there, acoustic music, preferably solo acoustic. Anyway, I started listening to Dylan. my roommate and fraternity little brother, is probably the biggest Dylan fan in the world. I had never seen him before. he dragged me out to see him one day in April of 96. i looked to see if there was an opener. Sure enough it was Jewel. I didnt pay much attention to the show. I was just waiting for Dylan to get up and to his 1 1/2 hour and leave. So after the show, I thought, "Why not pick up this PoY CD?" I listened to a few songs and put it bck on the shelf. It stayed there for a couple of months. After returning home from class one day, my fickle mind decided that I was bored with the other 250 CD's I have and I decided to give theis Jewel girl a whirl. i listened to the whole thing, and then again. I can't think of a day since December of 96 that it hasn't been one of the CD's in my Cd player. I grew to enjoy it all, despite the criticism recieved. What really got me though was seeing her in concert again, on purpose. I heard she was playing the Beacon Theater. This was in March of last year. I went, took my sister her friend and two of my friends. I was hooked. Although this was not one of her greatest shows. I was amazed. From there I never looked back, and have seen her 3 times since then. Every time she's been in the area since then, Ive seen her. I even went out to Pennsylvania to see Lillith Fair. But rather than drag on, that is my saga. peace JEFF ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 Jan 1998 15:19:32 EST From: kim-ialone@juno.com (Kimberly S Spiegel) Subject: anyone want to trade? Hi! I'm pretty new to the list and this is my first time posting. I was wondering if anyone is interested in trading angelfood. I have stuff on video tape (including the Wizard of Oz and VH1's Hard Rock Live plus other stuff ) and I'm looking for any Jewel tapes or CDs. E-mail me privately at "kim-ialone@juno.com" for a list of what I have to trade or if you just want stuff copied. Bye! I'm a 16 y/o female, Beth's the name, who is from the great state of NJ. I love sports, music (namely JEWEL), AOL, TV (namely Buffy the Vampire Slayer hence the s/n) and yeah I like school. I dabble with the guitar and writing as I suppose many of us EDA's do. I'm a quiet person and I love getting all this email daily and I love collecting everything Jewel and Buffy I can find. It is not too hard though. Well enough about me, here's how and why I like Jewel. Well I guess it all started with the song You Were Meant for Me. I heard it...actually I should say saw it on VH1 and ever since then I've loved her. I bought the single and listened to it endlessly. After the single came PoY for me. Listened to that endlessly and still do. After PoY came the concert I went to for my b-day. Which was a dream come true to see someone I admire so much and idolize perform live! I now have several CDs by her. Namely all the imports (FG, YWMFM, and WWSYS) and the Wizard of Oz in concert soundtrack. I also taped all of her television performances that I could catch. Her CD is the only one that gets play-time on my radio. (except for maybe Sarah McLachlan) I guess the reason I like her so is that her words and songs move me to no end. She's helped me get through the good times and the bad. As I am sure she did for many other people too. Boy you guys sent alot of emails in the past week... Downloaded all of them this morning, as i've had no power since last Wednesday, and no phone for a little while as well... If you heard of the state of emergency declared in Ottawa region in Canada because of the ice storm, well i'm in it, living it, and hating it.. It's really terrible, but anyways, that's not important.. ;) As for a little introduction of myself. I first heard Jewel on the radio as most people did. Heard "who will save your soul", and thought it was pretty good. Didn't really think much of it, as i don't think much about any music. But when YWMFM came out, i totally connected to it. I loved the lyrics especially. when i heard it, i was having problems with my boyfriend, and i sent him a copy of the song via snail mail (we were over 500 miles apart..), and let him listen to it.. Nonetheless we got back together.. :) Since then, i have followed Jewel's music career, as well as her poetry as i am a poet myself. I don't see any of her videos, and only recently have seen her perform on a music station (that one of my friends taped for me..) I am constantly hoping that she will tour to Canada sometime, so i can go to a concert. But until then, i'm always looking for some angelfood.. (especially since they are hard to come about in this city.. not many stores carry them..) Now the boring stuff.. I am 17 (turning 18 in a little over amonth and a half.), am a writer, live in ontario Canada, and i am proud to be an angel.. :) Hugs, Jenny The angel still without an identity. :( PS: Can anyone with Angelfood that is willing to start my collection please email me.. I mean, that's why my EDA poster autographed by her is so important to me, because I look at it and remember that night in Cleveland where she signed it for me. Now if that's not possible (meeting Jewel) because of her recent fame, maybe, but I doubt it. Now that my personal statement is out of the way... I wouldn't trust this ad one minute. If only for the fact that POY hasn't won any Grammys! Sure it's probably just an oversight (they probably meant to put Grammy NOMINATED) but still, I wouldn't trust it. So i went there at the right time and it turns out that Fleetwood Mac is going to be releasing an album called Rumours Revisited... its all of the Rumours songs done by other artists.... which means.... JEWEL"S GONNA BE ON IT!!! yay another cd i can buy. I have the news thing taped, but i forget what song they said she's doing. (I'm not real familiar with FM songs... i'm not old enough) Its something about Love coming back or something. Oh hold on i just went to the MTV News gallery.... she's doing "You Make Loving Fun here's what it said: January 9 [10:00 EDT] -- The Fleetwood Mac renaissance is about to pick up even more steam. The band's 1977 magnum opus, "Rumours," will soon get a modern makeover when Jewel, Matchbox 20, Elton John and others turn up on an all-star tribute to that album. "Rumours Revisited" will feature Jewel rendition of "You Make Loving Fun," Matchbox 20 taking on "Never Going Back," the Cranberries performing "Go Your Own Way," and Elton John singing "Don't Stop." The album, which is due in March, also features contributions from the Goo Goo Dolls, Tonic, Shawn Colvin, and Duncan Sheik among others. "Rumours Revisited" should hit stores about the same time as a Stevie Nicks boxed set called "Edge of 17." Just when you thought the recently Grammy nominated band couldn't find any more exposure, Fleetwood Mac will soon be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Santana and the Eagles. So there you go... meant to say this the other day when i saw it, but i forgot. guess what, i found a new favourite Jewel song... the Swedish Song. love it. beautiful. Its so weird, when i was watching Duets on Sat, i realized that i remember seeing Jewel and Paula Cole a long time ago in 95 but i didn't know who they were... so thats the first time i saw Jewel, not when Who Will Save Your Soul was released. Of course that was when i was in early 7th grade, and i was interested in different music anyway. i'm done talking now. bye, love & muffins, Michelle ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #29 **************************
