I have been looking at some mail order items, and there is quite a selection of Jewel items that are rare (examples: A Christmas CD, PoY promo Sampler) and some normal and import CD singles. If you want a list of these mail me at dough.boys@megabit.net and I will send you a list right away! Also, UK fans don't forget to buy your copy of Foolish Games, lets go for top 20 this time! The joke went like this: Do you know why Jewel is singing the national anthem at the Super Bowle? Because she wanted to sing something happier then Foolish Games. Has anyone heard Angel Standing By on any Detroit area radio stations? I have called 96.3, 95.5, and 93.1, none of them have heard it. I called a local CD Store and asked them if they had a newer version of PoY and the lady I talked to said that it was a special CD for radio stations only. She said it is only for promotion and it is a faster version of the CD. Thats all she said. I am 16 and from the good ol' mid western state of Missouri. When I first heard Jewel on the radio, it was WWSYS and I was doing my homework in my room. I immediately loved the song from the very beginning with the opening guitar. I listened to the words and then laughed at the way she sang "Who wil saaaaave your souls". I loved the way it sounded so I stood in front of my full-length mirror and everytime she would sing that part I would mouth the words, wondering what it would be like to have a voice like hers. Then I heard the radio dj talk about how she was from Alaska and loved to yodel. Immediately I pictured Jewel to have jet black hair with a parka--just like the eskimos in the eskimo pie commercial. When I first saw her on the cover of POY, I couldn't believe that someone from Alaska could have blond hair. Now I've learned she was born in Utah and her father is from Switzerland. I bought POY with the first check I got from babysitting in June '96. I listened to it and hate to admit that I wasn't too thrilled. I hated Painters and Adrian because I thought they were too long and drawn out. But there were others that I absolutely loved such as Little Sister, FG, Near You Always, Sensitive,YWMFM, and Don't. Since I've subscribed to this list and read how much Jewel makes an impact on peoples lives, I love every song on POY because it's amazing how one person and her voice can make a difference in someone's life. I don't have much angelfood at all, but what I do have, I enjoy very much and listen to all the time. I think it's amazing that there is something in every one of her songs (well the ones that I've heard) that I can relate to. Well I've made this long enough, thanks to everyone who read. I am glad to share my Jewel experiece with you. ~*~Sherry the Shy and Sensitive Angel~*~ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Jan 1998 12:16:31 -0600 From: BrianBC Subject: this one grammy thing Hi everyone, this one grammy nomination thing is NOT a result of voting for nominees or who is better or anything like that. I heard over the radio that since PoY was released so long ago that Jewel is ineligible for most of the categories, though it was not said specifically which ones. Just thought I'd pass that along. I wonder what part they wanted her to play. There is a picture of Jewel next to Renee Zellwegger and I thought they were two pictures of Jewel. Funny, since I said "they don't look that much alike" earlier today. It is read in a left to right format, and numbers appearing right above or below each other are played at the same time. When done correctly the spacing between numbers is an indication of time and rhythm, but that can get complicated. Now if i remember correctly there is a file "how to read tab" available at the Harmony Central tab site which has a search engine for the OLGA.I think the address is www.harmony-central.com/guitar, if not it's harmony central you want, just search in and around there and you should find it. Martin" Subject: NJC: Intro I've been subscribing to this list for about a month now and figured it was time to become a more active participant. As a "newbie" it has been interesting to learn what the EDA scene is all about. When I subscribed I wasn't really expecting much, but was pleasantly suprised to see that there was, at least most of the time, an intelligent dialogue going on among people who truly seem to appreciate Jewel's music. I bought POY back in 96 and listened to it every once in a while. I thought it was pretty good but I never listened to anything other than WWSYS for a couple months. Then one day I finally got through the whole album and thought it was amazing. I had some friends who had a chance to go see Jewel live a couple times in the states, but being abroad in Sweden since last January I haven't been able to myself. Then I learned she was coming to Stockholm and made sure I got tickets. I went to the show here in Stockholm and it was by far the best live musical experience I have ever witnessed. (The crowd was very polite by the way) I was simply awestruck that one person and a guitar could make such beautiful dynamic music. I've never been so touched by music as I was at that show. I'm not a poet so I won't try and do it justice with a crude description, I was simply amazed. It was really great that she sang the song in Swedish, the Swedes loved it. I had no idea what it was about but it sure sounded nice. Anyway it was shortly thereafter that I subscribed and have been introduced to the world of the EDA. If I understand correctly the adot a newbie program is no longer in existence; however, if any veterans want to pass along any helpful info it would be appreciated. Sounds like angelfood will be a little tough to acquire overseas but I'm planning to move back to the States this summer and hopefully I can start then. I'm desperate for more music. Anyway I'm 22, soon to be 23 in MArch, and studying for a Masters degree here in Sweden (originally from Texas, but have lived all over the place). Hopefully, my application is still being considered, I will be moving out to San Diego during the summer to start a Phd at UCSD. I know there are lots of San Diego locals so anyone who has advice for a newcomer to the area is more than welcome to pass it along. I think I've rambled enough for now. I look forward to hopefully getting to know some of you better.
