First of all the annoncement..... I am supposed to send a lot of people tapes for angelfood that I made deals about dating back to early December. I have been really busy and have not been able to get out those tapes but I will be sending them out soon so please forgive me. Secondly, the question..... I have the tape of Unplugged because I taped it. But everyone keeps talking about her playing "Under The Water" and "Down" and how she wrote a song down during the show but my tape does not have it. Did they not televise it? Or is my TV editing stuff???? (J/K) Anyways, if someone can clear this up, I would be ever so greatful. Among others mentioned are Jewel, the Lilith Fair, Spice Girls, and for those Ani fans...Ani DiFranco. :) It's worth reading, give it a look. And don't worry... the JC is why I'm posting again, I *promise* ;) Brian -- the Angel who POSTS a Lot ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 14:43:55 -0800 (PST) From: jewel fan Subject: JC Hey everyone I just saw s cool little Jewel thing on VH1. It's called Pop Up Quiz and it was about Jewel. It had a question which was: What was Jewel's name when she first took a stab at music? Then they played a quick commercial and came back and restated the question and while they played a clip of Foolish Games the gave the answer which was: Swiss Miss from her 9th grade rap group Le Creme. I thought it was kinda cool so I let you all know! bye Karen ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Jan 1998 14:50:28 PST From: "Michelle Thomas" Subject: Foolish Games I've decided that I've found my favouritest version of Foolish Games... which is kinda weird cause its never been one of my absolute favourite songs. On the Atlantic Records site, Digital Arena section there is a performance you can download od Jewel's first headlining tour. its her and Duncan Sheik at Irving paza (Jewel starts about 2 hours into it). She does Foolish Games as her 9th song and its my favorite of ALL the versions i've heard. check it out, it rocks. love & reeses-peanut-butter-cups, michelle ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Jan 1998 16:47:00 PST From: "Brent Schooley" Subject: Pittsburgh Area EDA's I was kinda wondering...Are there any Pittsburgh area EDA's? Brent Angel in Search of Hope ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 17:40:01 -0700 From: "Rhino" Subject: Tinker Street ra, HALFIM and more Hi, I several subjects, this is going to be long... First off, I was wondering if anyone saved the Tinker Street Cafe recordings on their hard drive, and if so, if you could attach it to an E-mail and send it my way!! Also, the Have A Little Faith In Me lyrics are on my web site at : http://www.infomagic.com/~doskocil/jewel.htm along with many others. I'm glad I didn't go to Vegas. I live in Arizona, and I love to go to Vegas for short vacations. I was very close to getting tickets for the show, and then I found out that there was a 10:00 curfew for anyone under 21. So, I was very crushed, but now I think I feel better, since I don't like being around drunks and obnoxious people. ..Call me shy :) By the way, does anyone know the lyrics to Last Dance Rodeo?? I transcribed them, but the line where she sings.. "red lips and a screwdriver wrapped around some mink-clad smear. And you know that she's a diamond, and it's ?????" What in the name of dump trucks is she saying?? It sounds like: "..and it's damned you fox hell". Can anyone help me out here? Thanks in advance! Also, I always thought that Jewel said "shut up" in a playful way. Like she's just teasing the audience. It seems like people yell at her because they WANT her to say shut up. Just my 2 cents.. And, on a non-Jewel note, if anyone out there has not yet heard "Surfacing" by Sarah McLachlan, then I highly recommend you remedy that NOW!! I never really was a fan of Sarah's (in fact the only song I knew was Building A Mystery), but now I think I'm definitely hooked. EVERY song is good on "Surfacing", just like POY. I think I want to get her other albums now. Also, "Surfacing" contains a very cool CD ROM "thingy" with samples from her other albums and a movie of her recording Surfacing. So buy it, listen to it relentlessly, and then pop it in your computer!! Well, enough rambling... Keep smiling, Ryan the jagged little angel ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Jan 1998 18:34:19 -0800 From: dunphynm@essex1.com (Nancy Dunphy) Subject: Jewel Article(sp?) Hi everyone! How are you all? I hope all is well. Anyways, today in Music class we all read an article on Jewel from a magazine my teacher gets. Its a pretty cool magazine. It is called MUSIC I think. Anyways, its about a hundred(sp?) dollars a year for an issue a month. It also comes w/ a cd. They always have an artist on the front. The article(sp?) we read, I think, was a year old. There were a couple statments that weren't true, but it was a pretty good article(sp?). We also read a article on R. Kelly. If i can get a copy of the article, I'll be willing to type it up and send it to some people. I'll tell you all when its ready. I am going ahead and producing a tape of original songs by EDA's. Any style of music is good. Length is not a concern, neither is sound quality. If you have an original song, tape it and send it along with contact info, lyrics if possible or whatever else you want to include. You will not be denied. if you draw or have cool photos, send them and I'll see what I can do. I also need cover ideas and a title so please try and think of one. Also, if you write poetry, tape yourself (or someone with a cool voice) reading it and I will write background music if neccesary. Hi angels, I just wanna ask everyone that posts to the lists to please sign your name to your posts, because I for one would like to know who's post I'm reading. This list has always been a very friendly place and I think that in a friendly place we should all know each other's names. Not signing names kind of takes the personal-ness out away from the list. The other thing is that I think I have the lyrics to have a little faith in me, but I have the Joe Cocker Version. If they're the same as the Jewel version, I'd be glad to post them when I get the chance. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 Jan 1998 09:45:18 +0000 From: peace@sigma.space.net.au Subject: One Stinkin' Grammy Nomination How could this possibly happen? Jewel with one, just one Grammy nomination. Is there something wrong with this? I'm sitting here thinking that if Foolish Games were to be nominated for a Grammy, which by most charts was Jewel's second best hit of the year next to YWMFM, where is Jewels nomination for YWMFM? I'm starting to think the nomination committee or whoever decides the Grammy nominees are so out of it, the Grammy's are just bogus. Still can't believe it, the best artist of the year gets one grammy nomination while other less worthy get many more. There must be something we can do about this. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!!!!! I think this has been posted once before, but I would like to reiterate about 2 articles about Jewel. The first and most important was in the December 29, 1997 to January 5, 1998 issue of People weekly. Jewel was named one of the 25 most intriguing people of the year. The article is on page 106. If you didn't get to see the article I'll post it since its already off newstands. (Jewel's quotes are in blue for all you AOLers) "Even after the gem of a year she has had, the Jewel in the crowd of female musicians making a yin din on last summer's Lilith Fiar caravan claims to remain unpolished. 'I'm not hip, I'm not produced, I'm not slick,' says Jewel Kilcher, 23. 'I don't have a big image thing.' Spoken like a true neofolkie even as sales of her multiplatinum debut album, Pieces of You, brings in very heavy metal at the cash register. Recorded three years after the Homer, Alaska, native wrote them at age 16, the collection of achingly earnest tunes, 'has a ton of mistakes in it,' concedes its creator. Still, her audiences are filled with soulful teens who can commiserate with the hotter-than-average hippie chick singing songs that she says are about "trying to figure out 'where do I fit in in the world?' ' The answer to that is, almost everywhere. October she signed a $2 million contract with HarperCollins for two books- a poetry a prose collection and a scrapbook- both due next year. She has also made a deal to star in her first film, as the love interest of two men in ang (The Ice Storm) Lee's $35 million civil war epic, To Live On. 'Jewel is the perfect mixture of down-to-earth and ethreal,' says Lee. Her words prove him right. 'I'm really looking forward to having my ass kicked by a new challenge. For me, singing and songwriting utilize only one part of my very creative body." The other picture of Jewel is in the February 1998 issue of Teen People, on page 24. There is a picture of Jewel signing a poster with the caption, "Jewel bedazzled fans at the Hard Rock Cafe in Barcelona as she signed a poster for the restaraunt's collection. Next month, filming starts for her first movie, To Live On." Hopefully at least on of you angels enjoyed this, then it was worth typing it out. By the way, I just joined (found) the list. I have been a big Jewel fan since POY first came out. I would appreciate anyone who wants to to e-mail me and tell me anything you think I should know, being a new member of the list and all. Anyone out there who is willing to send me angelfood (i've caught on that much!), please e-mail me. I sincerly appreciate it. - -Alexeia (not an angel yet, but wants to be) ------------------------------ End of jewel-digest V3 #15 **************************
