I will TRY so hard to make this short, I know no one wants to read anyhting else about Jewel Being mean. I just have a question or two. 1. Has anyone on this list ever NOT had a bad day or been in a bad mood? If there is, I want to meet you so I can tell you that you're a big fat liar. 2. Have you ever been involved in a conversation and there's something you REALLY want to say, but everyone else is talking so loud and so much that you never get to say what you want to say? Well, I'm sure this is how Jewel feels when she tries to sing songs that mean so much to her to a room chock full of drunken idiots. It's like standing in the middle of a crowded room screaming your lungs out and no one even looks up. ( I stole that line from TItanic, thank you.) So if Jewel wants to be mean or rude every once in a while or wants to stop a drunken idiot from butchering her song, let her. I know that there are a lot of people on this list that have met her and had nothing but nice things to say about her. besides, the person who posted about how she stopped the guy from playing the piano during Foolish Games also said that the person on the piano was from the rugburns, whom Jewel is extremely good friends with. So she probably was just telling her friend to stop acting like an idiot and to sit down and shut up. Okay, well, this was a lot longer than I thought it was gonna be, so I am sorry for taking up everyones time and I will sit down and shut up now. This is the official end of my 2nd penny. Hey all you PERFECT little angels out there I have a little question for you guys. Since when did talking about someone badly behind their back become polite? I mean, think about it... Ever since I can remember it has been considered mean. So maybe in some standpoints she doesn't "exude charming and gentle= behavior", but who ALWAYS does? Maybe what we all need to do is take a= big deep breath and take notice of what kind of behavior is typically= human. =20 I'm sure all of you have had plenty of antisocial moments. Are celebrities= exempt from this? Don't you think that in addition to working for her= record company, Jewel also works for every single one of her listeners. = She is criticized and torn apart by the media, and preforms for some people= who are less than excited to hear her melodious voice... AND then there is= us, her adoring fan base. She loves having us; people whom she can depend= on. PEOPLE... HUMANS, just like her. Does she "exude" human behavior? Do= we? We all have to be careful exactly what kind of human behavior we "exude."=20 but, remember, first and foremost, that we are, infact, human. *hugs* yours in humble humanness Tessa Harris aka }angel{ =20 ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Jan 1998 00:33:56 +0000 From: "Southern Students for Choice" Subject: premadonna, primadonna, primavera In case the moderator is still busy with the holidays and isn't available to correct or comment on the spelling used in some recent postings, we thought we'd compile some variations we've seen posted recently with the correct definitions. 1) premadonna a) alternate spelling for prima donna [see below], b) Jungian archetype for the madonna identity. This state of creative feminine consciousness is contemporarily associated most often with sensitive female disco and folk artists and their "creative" mood swings. See also immaculate conception and morning song sickness. 2) primadonna >From the Italian "prima" meaning first or best and "donna" meaning woman, which implies a stuck-up or egocentric personality. Often unfairly associated with sensitive disco and folk artists when they're not showing promoters, rock critics, and paparazzi (the definition of that word is for another posting) the attention they think they should expect. 3) primavera Pasta primavera: take 4 oz angel hair pasta and place in boiling salted water, cook 5-6 min or al dente. Chop 1 cup fresh vegetables (vera means vegetables) proportional to their saute or microwave cooking time. Suitable vegetables include onions, snow peas, carrots, yellow wax and green beans, and zucchini and other squashes. Cook vegetables until halfway done. Add one 15 oz can prepared mariana sauce (or use your own recipe, I'm getting tired of typing) to the mixed cooked vegetables and let simmer for a few minuites, though not so long that the vegetables become soft. Use sauce to top the pasta. Angelfood is suggested for dessert. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 4 Jan 1998 11:34:31 EST From: Xena436 Subject: SO To all of you who are off on this trip debating if Jewel is mean or not, let me say who cares. Jewel was the first video and they gave her 3 thumbs up! This is good, cuz they hardly ever do that! Anyway, one of them said it should be a top 5 hit. Hopefully he's right! Fingers crossed..... OK then, I am slowly getting to a point here...... Does anyone know when Foolish Games is released in the UK? Please someone e-mail me privately or if you want to the list! I have been a rock singer for about 15 years, and a musician's life is not easy. Particulary when you start having fame and money thrown at you as if it were candy. And when you're young, if goes to your head very quickly. Of course I don't know Jewel personally, but if her fame is going to her head a little bit...well, I can understand how that can happen. I also know that this too will pass...you come down to Earth pretty quickly, once you've stopped being the music industry's "flavor of the month", so to speak. I have also performed in front of crowds where they were so wild and unruly, drunk or whatever, where you were literally afraid for your life (or at least afraid for the safety of your musical equipment!)., and this sounds like the situation in Vegas. I hope it won't give Jewel a sour taste for performing live. It's really hard to perform when the audience really doesn't care if you're on stage or not. Anyway, I think Jewel is a fantastic talent who probably has a great head on her shoulders...and she will rise above this "bad night in Vegas". Happy New Year to all EDA's. Hi folks :) Twice in the last week, I've been asked when this Jewel list was created. I never really knew exactly, just knew it was "early 1995", so I asked Jeff Wasilko, the generous dude that owns smoe.org and created the list. He gave me an answer down to the *second*! (ain't technology wonderful?? :) Anyway.........drum roll please........ Jewel@smoe.org was created Sunday February 19th, 1995 at 11:42:04 PM EST, after one of Jewel's residency shows at the Kendall Cafe in Boston that Jeff apparently attended. Jeff must have been infatuated that night, the soft hearted lug :) Also, I am not sure if THIS was posted yet, but You Were Meant For Me came in at #1 for 1997 on Casey's Top 40's "Top 100 of 1997". This ain't for the video, this is Caseys' weekly radio countdown show. Atta girl Jewel, #1 for the year on a national chart!
