I also saw the performance by Yuka Sato (that's her name). I thought it was pretty good, too (especially the music). There was also another skater that skated to Jewel music though. It wasn't on the same show, it was like a month or two ago. Caryn Kadavy had skated to Foolish Games. It was really awesome. Just thought everyone might wanna know that Jewel's music is really getting around. :o) Talk to you later! Bye! Album sales have been climbing pretty steadily here too. In fact, when I walked into Tower Records, a beautiful, huge poster of Jewel greeted me-she was right next to Mariah Carey and Celine Dion, whom are considered super-divas, right? :) So it's a good way to get people to buy her album. :) In case you were interested, Backstreet Boys' As Long As You Love Me came out #1 on that same countdown. Sad, huh? :) Subash ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 1998 13:05:14 EST From: JewelFan50 Subject: Jewel #1!!! Hey, all you EDA's!! I'm from Georgia and on my very fave Jewel-playing radio station (Star 94.1) they had a top 97 of '97 songs and guess who was Number One?? Jewel!! "You Were Meant For Me" was number one in addition to "Foolish Games" being number 8 or something like that. I was so scared that Hanson "Mmmbop" (yuck!!) was gonna be number one, but it was my fave singer instead!!! Shawn The Melodic Angel P.S. Fulmer" Subject: Boy needs a bike I was just listening to the song in the subject(BNAB) and I was wondering if I have the wrong impression of the song. I take it that it's about a boy whose father is abusive to the mother, boy and sister and he just wants to get away. Whenever I hear the song, I feel like searching out the man and wripping his guts out for doing that to the family, but maybe I have the entirely wrong concept of the song. If not, then maybe feeling sorry for the boy, his sister, and mother doesn't have to be. Well, if anyone has any response/thoughts on this, let me know please. Hi everybody ! Just to let you know, Jewel has the no.1 hit of the year in Rick dees top 97 of 97 !! I never expected it to happen, only hoped. I was so excited about it when I first read it. Foolish games also placed well at #15. Go Jewel !! If you want my honest opinion, I think she'll get at least one oscar for the movie she's working on. I hope some of you out there think the same. I hope we always hear such good news about Jewel, our mother Angel. Anyway, here's a report... For all those who have asked me about the POY with the Foolish Games cover, I've checked out the CD (I actually bought three), and it contains 15 songs, the bonus track being Foolish Games, the radio edit version. The 'YWMFM' song in there is the radio edit version, and not the original one. You know, the version from the video? And the photos that are different, 1) The one with Jewel jumping in the air, has been replaced with a pic of Jewel from the 'YWMFM' video, the one with her lying on the ground. 2) The pic of Jewel in the bating suit, has been replaced with the pic of the cover of the 'WWSYS' single. And if could be me just being sensitive, but the new liner is lighter in color and the materiel is different. All those who are interested in the CD, please let me know :) Take care all! - -Jeanette ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I believe in all life, from trees to mice to men. Other duets : include "Old Lover's House", "My Body Is Changing", and "I Thought I Saw You : Last Night". All four of these songs are really good, and I have been playing : "I Thought I Saw You Last Night" and "My Body Is Changing" over and over and : over today. Ironically, these two songs have been stuck in my head -- and : they are both Steve/Jewel duets. Funny you should bring the subject up. I'm just wondering, is there any place I can download to hear them? If not, could someone please send me copies of them? Expenses all paid of course :) - -Jeanette ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I believe in all life, from trees to mice to men. They said Jewel has turned into a premadonna. They had to get her a flight for her to go to Las Vegas and the flight was full but the seat for her and she made this big argument about do you know who I am and then she's like mad that she'll have to hold her guitar or put it in the carrying bins because there arent seats to hold it. Also Jewel's mom is working out of this office somewhat and she always calls and all of this stuff....and that's about all I can remember right now. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 1998 14:57:55 EST From: Towrinsis Subject: New Years Eve Concert Hello!! Well I just have to say that I had one of the best New Years ever! Sounds like most of you who have posted about it have been pretty disappointed! Sorry! I have to say that I was really disappointed with the show too, but I still managed to have a freakin awesome time! Jewel sounded good, but content wise the show sucked. She played just about every song from POY. She did play "Down" and "You're In Cleveland Today". I can't believe that nobody has posted about the MAJOR HIGHLIGHT of the show yet! Jewel had Flea from The Red Hot Chili Peppers join her on bass for "Satellite"! That alone made the whole show worth while for me!! I love Flea! AHHH!!! The Rugburns were great, but you could tell they weren't really into it. And as far as the crowd went, I didn't have a problem, I've been to other Jewel shows that have much, much worse! But then again, I was quite intoxicated myself, maybe that's why I didn't care! Go figure! And I missed half the show because I had to pee every 30 seconds! Ha!! But I wasn't being obnoxious, I swear! Thank you again to Jason Penn who was wonderful enough to give me a ticket, let me stay in his bitchin' suite at the Rio, gamble with his money, save me from a stalker, and put up with my drunk butt all night! Boy, I feel for you Jason! I had an absolute blast! Tegan, what a wonderful surprise to see you! Thank you for adding for me, I'm taking you gambling with me more often! Larry, a pleasure as always! I love you! And everyone else that I met, talked to, and hung with, thanks it was awesome! Well, Happy New Year to all!!! Love you all!! I bought two tickets in the first hour they were sold. I flew to Las Vegas alone. I wanted to give one ticket away to someone who loves Jewel and who showed up and couldn't afford to go to the concert. That is what all of this is about, and it is part of why we love Jewel. I met a Cal State film school graduate outside the theater door who had only $20.00, but had come because she loves Jewel and knew that she HAD to see her that night. She asked me if she could sing me one of Jewel's songs. She ended up singing two. She was amazing. She is a song writer as well, and she sang Jewel's songs into my ear a capella right in front of the theater door as passionately as Jewel sings her songs. I gave her the other ticket and we went inside. The crowd was definitely what you would expect of a drinking New Year's Eve crowd at a trendy hotel in the party capital of the USA. Jewel sang from the deepest place that I have ever heard her sing. It was as if she took all of the chaotic energy of that unique situation and used it to amplify and clarify her passion. We both seemed to enter a the current of sound that resonated from Jewel's soul, and we went with her to all those amazing places that she takes us when we are with her completely. If anything, the built in distractions of that particular venue provided a unique opportunity to go into a deeper focus with Jewel. In summery, I must say that this was the most amazing performance by Jewel that I have experienced, and that the venue provided the deepest contact between Jewel and those who were listening only to her that I have yet experienced. The entire set was like one long and unbroken meditation. I am still in the experience. Thank you for listening, Murshid, the electrified angel. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 2 Jan 1998 17:34:52 -0500 From: uranium_eagle@juno.com (Issac J Brogdon) Subject: Jewel poll Rebeckbec@aol.com wrote: >did you realize that they were asking who should stop singing of course i realized that. the interpretation of the question can vary from person to person. on one hand, some would say that they are tired of Jewel's style, that it was another one hit wonder (even though she had more than one hit). of course, this is true, however, jewel was given great recognition through this poll, saying that she was worthy, and popular enough to have her name (and a person's name is the most important sound in the world to themselves, Dale Carnegie) placed with greats such as Whitney Houston. james the happily sophisticated helpless romantic who thinks and dreams too much the quotin' angel ______ Principle 3 of Six ways to make people like you, from "How to win friends and inflence people, revised 1981, originally written by Dale Carnegie, copyright 1934.
