Just thought I'd tell everyone that a couple of days ago I walked into this really great poster shop. And they had tons of postcards. And of course there is one of Jewel. It's absolutely beautiful. One of the best pictures I've seen of her! The postcard is distributed by PYRAMID and the number is PC 3085. If you can find it buy a couple. - -Whitney the roving angel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jan 1998 14:52:24 -0500 (EST) From: YOEST4244@duq3.cc.duq.edu Subject: Upcoming Jewel TV Appearances First of all, to one and all, EDAs and non-EDAs, A VERY HAPPY, PEACEFUL, AND JOYOUS NEW YEAR !!!!! Two upcoming TV shows featuring Jewel (albeit repeats) may be of interest to EDAs ringing in the New Year, both on the US cable channel VH1. First of all is the documentary series called "Behind The Music", which later today (Thursday) will feature the "behind the scenes" show on last summer's Lilith Fair tour. Jewel is interviewed several times during that hour-long show, which airs tonight at 6:00pm Eastern/Pacific, and again at 3:00am Thursday night(Friday morning), again Eastern & Pacific times. If you haven't seen it, it's a good look at last summer's Lilith Fair tour, which as we all know was probably the most successful event in the music business last year. Also, VH1 will be airing the performance of "The Wizard Of Oz" that Jewel starred in back in 1995. That will air tomorrow (Friday) at 9:00pm Eastern/Pacific and again on Saturday at 4:00pm, East./Pac., and its length is two hours. As Mike Connell, our hardworking list manager without whom we would not have our list & who deserves a special "Happy New Year" from one and all, posted the other day--this "Wizard Of Oz" Jewel show seems to be aired by VH1 on and around holidays, so if you haven't seen/taped it yet you may want to do it this weekend, 'cause it may not be on again for a while. (I have more info about "The Wizard Of Oz" that I'd like to share [*not* about the one that Jewel was in], but I'll save that for another post). --------------------------------------------------------------- JEWEL ON VH1-- "Behind The Music" documentary about Lilith Fair, Thurs. 6pm & 3am; "The Wizard Of Oz", Friday 9pm and Saturday 4pm. (all above info from http://www.rockontv.com) ---------------------------------------------------------------- Once again, A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ONE AND ALL !!!!!! Sincerely, Greg ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jan 1998 13:29:34 -0600 (CST) From: Carole Bellamy Subject: Re: jewel on a health magazine. Hi There! First off, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!;-) Secondly, I'm pretty sure that the health magazine that Jewel is on is "Natural Living Today". This magazine has been mentioned before, about a month ago. It's a great magazine, with a great article and beautiful pictures. I would recommend this article to anyone. The caption on the front had nothing to do with getting a better body! It says "Jewel's Alternative Health Success Story". Anyway....go out and find it and enjoy!;-) Have a wonderfully delightful 1998!!!!! As some of you may have known I was sort of the UNOFFICIAL coordinator of the Vegas EDA gathering. I just found out that I am VERY bad at getting things together. I had EDAs calling me from all sorts of places trying to figure things out. I ended up having a bunch of EDAs meet at my place: Tegan (who stayed here), Tony Potts, Jason Verling and Sonja, Amber and Lindi (sp?). We then proceeded to head out for lunch. As soon as we hit the casino we were losing people left and right. After a while we found Larry and his kids. I ACCIDENTLY (hehehe) forgot about Heidi and left her outside waiting in front of the casino for around 45 minutes :P Sowwie Hiedi, I told you I was not good at coordinating events. :P Oh, as a side note Steve Poltz almost ran me over in the casino :) I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. It was around 20 mins before the concert and he was trying to get backstage. By this time there were a MILLION people in the casino. (I am never going to Vegas for New Year's again). As I was sqeezing my way through a set of double doors to get to where tony was Steve turns the corner at out no where and almost runs me over! Oh..i guess I should mention I only weigh around 94 lbs so it isn't very hard to 'run me over' ;) He quickly apologized and said that he was late. Now for the concert itself: I have NEVER been at a concert with such a TERRIBLE crowd in my life! Everyone was drunk and extremely obnoxious. The Hard Rock Casino is basically a younger crowd's casino. I think most of the people there were there for social reasons only. They didn't really care WHO was on stage singing. Jewel repeatedly told the crowd to shut up. At one point she said something to the affect "I will remove some of you guys, I don't mind refunding you your ticket". I felt sorry for her. I don't think she will EVER play at a casino again :( The concert itself was extremely short. Jewel sang for less than 1 and a half hours. She left soon after midnight. I think she just wanted to get out of there :P The only why I enjoyed the concert at all was due to my second row seats :D But this is definitely NOT one of the better Jewel concerts in which I've heard or been too. This is an interesting fact that not many EDAs noticed but I was able to catch due to my close side view of the stage. Right after midnight the guy in the front row was repeatedly offerring Jewel a cup of champagne. She was ignoring him for awhile but then she gave in. She took the glass from him and guzzled up some of the campagne right in front of the audience but half of a second later she turns her back to the crowd and SPITS the whole thing back into the cup! Hehe...I could see it very clearly with my side view :) It was kinda funny. Okies..I have to go entertain Tegan right now so hopefully someone else will give a more detailed summary than me :) Take care my angels-- Mary wannabe angel :) "In the end only kindness matters" ~Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jan 1998 17:02:45 EST From: JefffSmith Subject: Jewel in Rolling Stone's year end awards So, the latest issue of Rolling Stone has their Annual Music Awards results. The Reader's Poll had Jewel as the #2 Best Female Performer (#1 was Fiona Apple and Sarah McLachlan was #3). Jewel finished #1 as Sexiest Female Artist (Fiona Apple was #2 and Courtney Love was #3). Jewel didn't get any awards or finish in the top 3 of any of the Critic's polls. They also listed different artist's favorite albums of 1997 and Jewel's favorites were: 1) Radiohead - OK Computer 2) Pavement - Brighten the Corners 3) Steve Earle - El Corazon 4) Bob Dylan - Time Out of Mind 5) Sarah McLachlan - Surfacing ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Jan 1998 19:26:22 -0200 From: kmignac@elogica.com.br Subject: Country? Hi EDAs, I was thinking, I don't know American country music very well, it's different from the Brazilian one, but songs of POY album remind me american country music like Morning Song and Don't. I was in the second to the last row, and even though they weren't bad seats, I was right by the general admission, right by the bar, and so many people were plastered. I hate drunk people, they were so rude...There was a family of 8 in front of us, and around the middle of the show, they just left. They wasted a thousand flipping dollars...ugh. I feel so bad for Jewel, the crowd was being so rude...I coulda hurt them. Oh well...it was still worth it... (not really) Well, I was watching the obnoxious Joan Rivers and her little sidekick Melissa on E!, and they insulted Jewel's beautiful Grammy dress. I was shocked. Joan hated it, and thought it wasn't right for Jewel's figure etc. Melissa; however, liked the dress, but didn't think it was right for her figure as well. It just appalls me that these people have nothing better to do, and actually get paid for it. Anyways; Joan and 'the crew' are wrong about Jewel. Just thought you might want to know. ttfn - -Samantha ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jan 1998 19:04:52 -0800 From: sp96@juno.com (Sarah Tong) Subject: Lilith Fair Site Hello to all, I was surfin' the net Lilith web site and there are all of these Jewel related things. Umm, is Jewel trying to tell us something? No I'm just kidding. I've heard that she doesn't smoke. But anyways, it's one of my FAVORITE!!! songs. Okay that is all. Oh yeah one more thing. Anyone a Sarah McLachlan fan out there? Do you live in Atlanta? Well, 99x is going to be re-airing Sarah's Live X this Friday.
