I know this because I work at Blcokbuster. But, there's a catch. Not all stores have booths for all awards. If the store is only a video store, you can only vote for the movie awards. Which, by the way, I encourage all of you to do anyway. It's fun and easy, and this is one of the few that is all based on voting. Not for a select few, but for anyone. I sound like a commercial, sorry. But, just thought I'd add that. If you go to Blockbuster, look at the TV screen, they run a quick thing about Jewel and the nominations. The Spice girls are always on! :-( Anyway, talk to you all later! Kate ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Dec 1997 12:56:48 PST From: "Michelle Thomas" Subject: NJC: A thought Hi! I was thinking, and I decided that the list is SUCH a great thing. People are SO helpful and always willing to give and share info. People are always offering Angelfood, sharing songs over RealAudio. Its so sweet. After I posted that thing about the 3rd version of YWMFM, I probably had about 15 people e-mail me to let me know that it was from the Sean Penn video. I realize that 15 is not that many out of the >1000 in the list, but considering that a lot of those people either were newbies or had no idea what i was tlaking about, i think that 15 is wonderful. People are so ready to help to other EDAs and give their time to someone that they don't even know. We really are Everyday Angels. Jewel put that perfectly. :) Hope everyone has a great New Year and Have a lots of fun at your parties! Of course, they're doing an end-of-the-year poll, just like everyone else, which makes me feel somewhat weary of picking up a magazine, but one of the questions, #22, to be exact, features Jewel. It asks: Which diva should hang up her mike in 1998? a. Celine Dion b. Mariah Carey c. Jewel d.Whitney Houston Personally, I believe that this expression illustrates how popular Jewel really has become. By featuring her in a poll question such as this, Jewel is given equal recognition as such renowned artists Mariah Carey, Celien Dion, and even Whitney Houston. Notice Madonna, Vanessa Williams, Barbara Streisand, etc., weren't mentioned?!? Popularity Beware of over-great pleasure in being popular or even beloved. Margaret Fuller (1810-50), U.S. writer, lecturer. Letter, 20 Dec. 1840, to her brother. Quoted in: Alice Rossi, The Feminist Papers (1973). Everybody hates me because I'm so universally liked. Peter De Vries (1910-93), U.S. author. The narrator, Joe Sandwich, in The Vale of Laughter, pt. 1, ch. 1 (1967). Really, how great is it that Jewel has gotten to be so popular? All that means is that she doesn't play in the qaint little coffee shops, and we have to share her with the rest of the world out there. Ah well, the quest goes on! james the happily sophisticated helpless romantic who thinks and dreams too much the Quotin' Angel ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Dec 1997 15:34:32 -0600 (CST) From: Sam P Cervera Subject: Re: Perspective on Boy Needs Bike. Just a little add-on....but the greatest catalyst to Jewel's music seems to be it's heartfelt simplicity...something I believe we can all benefit from. Just try to take a few moments each day and watch the world go by and you'll understand where Jewel gets her material. I believe that there is a little bit of Homer, AK everywhere we turn.
